Melons in grow bags! Love it! IMA try this. Fabric potting lots this year using them as edging for other plants to keep my sweet fur missle from racing through the plants.
Key to keeping them safe is moist soil ( never let them fully dry out ) Must mulch the top. Feed them a pinch of fertilizer every 3rd week for 4 feedings maybe 5 feedings if the plants take up to 120 days. Some of my varieties do. What we use: Organic blood and bone meal. 1/4 teaspoon every three weeks. Main vine care: 1 vine for melons ( doesn't include watermelons ) they need side vines to produce big fruit. Once the vine of the melon is 12 to 16 feet clip the tip off. ( stop growing ) all the energy goes into the fruit forming up.
I'm nervous. I guess this is a big deal for us. No more playing around testing out native clay. We know what grows well in it. So... I'll plant those last. Tons of variety here. The typical garden dream of 150 different seed packets and wanting to grow them all! I know better but, I still have 50 things going in this year. ( Giggles ) "It's for the show!" Next year we back off and just grow what works from this mayhem. Much love and abundance, "The WickerShire Project" Bill Sharon and the Kids
( Crosses fingers ) This needs to work out! I'm very excited to know what will happen. If I fail I quit gardening. All i need is 1 melon from one plant to claim success!
@@littlesaltyhomesteader Sooo... Beans Cucumbers and tomatoes are also gonna ride that too! I can't tell you how much weight it's gonna have to hold! 😆
Welcome to Melon Mayhem here at the Shire. Mystery Guest shows up and breaks ground adding onto the Growth Capacity deeply needed. So what's going on here? Does the Wickershire have a secret work crew behind the scenes? Are these paid actors or are the just simply and most likely our neighbors giving us a hand? We won't tell. You're going to have to figure it all out on your own to win those Shire points!
Erics my neighbor deep in the off grid woods. We're working together to grow more food and learn things this year. He is an epic asset and secret weapon!
Goat dance! Youd have to eat like 17 pounds sorrel to get sick..lol Woah thats a epic trellis!...how many melons u growing sir!👀 My secret...(looks around)...in my grow bags i put wood mulch on bottom to hold moisture and fill the bag...then crap dirt..then nice ammended soil top...then pine shavings top....i had no moisture issues all summer..even the 100s! So much rocks.. Breaks out batcomputer too see who eric is...lol
Eric is my brawn brains and spirit in the Shire. Hands off! Maybe I hired a pro grower to smoke you this year? Who knows??? So many secrets! Dude! where am I gonna find 17 pounds of sorrel to test that theory out!? 😆 Cheers to us growing this summer! Let's git err done!
Oops! Uuh... 12 +3 +4+....??? I dunno know! It's 1:30 am and you want me to do math!? 🙄😁 We got 2/3rds planted ( per variety) Need to set up watermelons now. This is where my tarp shines. Keep em hot, keep them clear... keep them safe! Shires Battlefield vs ground invasion. Air strikes we need to check on daily. I can't afford to spray chemicals. Gonna be all hand to hand combat vs the insectoid invasions to come! Also waiting for my Hummingbirds to show up! You got your squirrels.😉
@@mikeschaoticgardening The ones around here will buzzy about 1 foot from your ear near the side of your head. I know they are small but, they make me nervous. Tiny bird should never get that close. They do this while you change out their feeders! This is why I need to catch them on film. 🐦
You are rocking this off grid my friend
Thank you so much! The simplest comment means a lot to us!
