  • I was lucky enough to get a test ride on the 2018 Yamaha MT10. It's essentially a naked R1 (ok so an oversimplification) but it's absolutely brilliant.

    Bought one exactly like your test bike. I love the matte silver and yellow combo. It's the best bike Iv'e ever owned. My previous bike was the MT 09. Great engine but not the whole package. The MT 10 has everything. A reason why it's so easy to wheelie is the electronically actuated steering damper which helps the front wheel to keep pointing in the right direction. It also has a 12v adaptor for cell phones etc. The cruise control is brilliant. I also love that the exhaust is much louder than typical stock systems. It makes a fantastic sound. Yamaha set the bike up so that in traction control 1 and 2 it will wheelie but still with traction control safety systems active. They really thought it through.

      I changed also my MT09 on this one, my model is 2016 but there is quickshifter, touring bags, cruise control and decatted SC project S1 exhaust. Only the sounds impressed me so much when I first fired this thing up that I want this bike right now! Suspension is much better than normal MT09 what I owned and quickshifter working much smoother. Only - rep this is how thirsty this thing are and gasoline prices nowadays because Putin fucked up. But hobbies are very expensive.... :D If you love what you doing, save money somewhere else! Ride safely guys

      Yes - mileage isn't great - partly due to the small tank. You have to pay if you want to play and that engine is awesome.

    Nice review, I was one of the first owners when this bike was released. 13,000 miles and over two years later I still think it's the best bike I've ever owned. Perfect Yamaha reliability, the only downside is it's tremendous thirst coupled to a 17L tank. (You can still tour on it)

      Banditmanuk 100% agreed!!!! I've owned 14 bikes total , mostly supersports , Ducatis R1's , etc but the MT10 hands down was THe most reliable and most fun bike I've ever owned!!!! Had it over 2 years NOt ONE issue ever! 6,000 miles. Feels faster because it's quicker 0-60 that liter sport bikes, all the torque!!! Also hurts fuel becaue it's so fun to romp on lol . Well worth it! It's the first bike of 13 that i will buy again!!! Sold for a divorce bit hands down will buy another no doubt!!! I loved the superduke and tuono Factory but I thought he US they are $17,700 new plus dealer fees, I got mine new out of California for $9,200 new, NO dealer fees and shipped it to utah for $160. HALF the cost of thenother two but supernaked performance! No brainer at all!!! Couldn't agree more!! Best mod I ever did was immidiately putting a $160 Yipe on , leaving the Factory titanium can. Sounds straight moto gp!!! 😍 did shortys. Sliders , too but they was it and by far the most fun!!! Wheelies for days!!!!
      Any mods on yours? And don't sell it!!! an divorce!

      Exuptoy have you decat it yet? Saves 27 lbs. and let's it breath and sounds like Valentine's motoGP R1m1! I highly recommend it!!! 😍. There's a trick to it tho if u do. Jsut get a $160 y pipe, keep the Factory can and leave the EXUp cables so it doesn't throw an engine code and can easilly be swapped back if u want. Not sure why people spend $850 on systems when a $160 ypipe does the same and the can is titanium anyway and oooks great.

    Test rode one of these yesterday, called in after a course to try the MT09, it was out so took the MT10 instead, unfortunately it was rush hour and couldn't find a clear road to try it properly, but really loved it, brilliant in traffic/filtering, but incredible power on tap. Was quoted £11,500 OTR, although i have seen people last year paying under £10k, think this is due to currency fluctuations, got me worrying though with brexit it could increase tariffs for imports and we will end up paying more for imported bikes, will also knock on to second hand values, good if you are selling.

    • @Englishbikerdan

    I’ve had my MT10sp since last year and it’s the best bike I’ve had, agree with you on fuel consumption but I don’t care, I’ve had the suspension setup for me which makes a big difference, you can change the shift light to where you want it to come on and yes you do have to reign the throttle in😳

      Tony Pammen you lucky lucky lucky dawg!!!!! I live in the Us and we don't get the SP and I HATE IT!!!! Had an R1M prior to my MT10 and LOVE my MT10 ,..literally most fun and reliable bike I've owned, loved the R1M and unique bit uncomfortable as hell and low speed around town was aweful! But the MT10 was like nothing else! Only wish we had the Sp! What's the price difference on an Sp over standard? In the us the msrp for a new MT10 is $13,300 us, buiuuut if you shop can get them like I didn't mine NEW for $9,200-9,500. A superduke r and tuono Factory are $17,700 us so lwitally half the cost . If the MT10 sp was here that would be my ultimate!

      Lingenfelter Zee Ohh Six hi lingenfelter, my sp was approximately £2300.00 more than a “standard “. I would say that the suspension does make a difference in how it rides, but you still have all the lunacy and that, when all said and done it’s the engine that makes the bike don’t you think, I bought the sp on looks alone though, safe riding dude😁

    Owned one 2 years going from 12 different supersports and itnwas by far the funnest bike ive owned !!! What Power mode are u in? Go to the fun mode and it wheelies up in 5 of 6 gears. Brakes were good to me too;..not like an Aprilia tuono Factory buuuuut nor bad.
    First thing I did was remove my cat, sounds like an Aprilia v4 ,..it's amazing! Got it half the price of a superduke and it's quicker 0-60 that an superduke lol works it to me.
    In the US a superduke is $17,700 ,..can get the MT10 new for $9,400 US
    Little bit of a tip if anyone buys one,...the aftermarket systems are pricey,..but keep this in mind; you can buy a Danmoto or other brands Y-pipe and take the cat out and leave the stock can in . The y-pipe is $140us that's rediculously cheap ,..it plugs right into the Factory can,..it removes a LOT of weight too! I think my cat weighed 27 lbs !!!! That's A LOT of weight considering other weight savers and how little they save. The Factory can looks great and is titanium so no reason to remove it;... the internal diameter of the internal pipnis also greater than most the aftermarket can I looked at,..so no advantage gained by replacing it. Plus soenthing to be said when a bike sounds like Valentino Rossis R1M and it appears to be stock exhaust lol . Another tip, LEaVE the EXUP system in to make sure u like it for a good month . Only reason insay that is it's legit a MotoGP sounding bike so long rides may buy ya, didn't me; in fact I couldn't get over how fun it was riding soenthing around that sounds like a race bike and that crossplane 4 SCREAMS like nothing else at high rev,...like an Aprilia v4 but being a inline STILL reva higher. It's unbelieveable!!! You jsut leave the cable actuator under the seat; the cables literally jsut bend and tuck up under the swing arm. Nowhere for them to go and it actually still actuates the exup motor SO the computer thinks it's still there, it's jsut not doing anything. Lol will keep it from throwing an engine code. That way if u decide u don't like it or if u have tough emmisisions laws it's a simple 20 minute swap to throw the cat back in and your back to quiet. I did it once for a long trip,..took 15 minutes to throw he cat back in for the quiet long ride and when I got back I took 15 minutes and removed it. Also if you go aftermarket can they weigh more than the titanium Factory can. That cat is SO quiet , I kept getting people merging into my lane without seeing me it was SO quiet , that s why I went decat. A decent system was $850 us,... I did jsut the cat y pups from Termignoni for $160 and compared it to another MT10 one night and he couldn't tell the difference and neither coukd I and I guarantee he added a little weight by also can't change back as quickly if he wants a quiet ride. If you want to hear the decat MT10 I sold mine after 2 years (unfortunately for a divorce) to a famous TH-cam there in the Us "the muscle biker". He has a zx6r, Aprilia rsv4 Factory and MT10,..if you want to hear how amazing it sounds he did. Tunnel video at a canyon by my house the day he bought it from me, you'll see me in the video lol it sounds SOooooo amazing!!!! Last bit,..the MT10 is THE QUICKEST PRODICTION MOTORCYCLE ON EARTH 0-60mph ,.. 2.5 seconds, while it's a lot more hp than the other Japanese makes drom suzuki and hondas new cb1000r it is the ONlY Japanese supernaked ,..it competes with the kind supernaked exotics superduke R and the tuono Factory. Andnis HALF the cost!!! And better reliability , lower maintencancr and parts costS, it's an amazing bike , best bang for the buck hands down!!! Will wheelie 1-5th gears and power up in 4 of those. No clutch needed lol. It's so far beyond the other nakeds in performance , and if you for some reason want the same hp as a superduke even tho the MT10 has a quicker 0-60 (the superduke and Aprilia tuono at e175 bhp , the MT10 is 160,...again, it's quicker to 60mph so who cares BUT if you want that same number , when u remove the cat you can send the eCU to NelsTune , tell them u jsi swapped in a decat pipe and if you buy a $55 race filter they will tune the Ecu for those mods and your elevation and you getnit back, plug it in and be at robustly 183hp, will outperform the 1301cc superduke in every power test. I never did becaue - breathing 160hp crossplane 4 with 160hp is PLENTY!!! The power comes in LOw and is a noooo e broad curve ,..feels faster than my '15 R1, Ducati 1198 etc ; becaue it's quicker and has more torque than they do and at a lower rom, nothing more fun that an MT10! Wish we had the SP in the US,..think that would be the ultimate bike for me.
    If you're looking at buying a naked , be sure to try riding a supernaked!!!! Next level perfocmance. Be sure to try the MT10!!!! Keep reading comments on lambchops rides about how awesome the gsx1000s and cb1000r are and everytime peolemask have u rode the MT10 andbits always a no; lol for your sake try it, I test rode EVERY option of naked and supernaked for 2016-17-18 and the MT10 thrilled me as much as the double expensive tuono Factory and super Duke; and almost the same price as the base nakeds .
    Also didn't hear but you have adjustable selectable ABS modes, 3 levels and off, adjustable traction control 3 levels and off, wheelie control 3 modes and off (adjusted with tc) and the 3 power modes. Be sure to try the most agreesive mode at least for a second jsut to feel the crazy difference. When I ride in B mode I wheelie like crazy, traffic I roll around in standard.
    The only negative I've found,...it's not suspension, some say that bit truth is they are jsut wannabes that heard a motogp test where the motogp rider said it wasn't the best but also then disclaimed it's comparing it to a $80,000 motogp system lol so all the TH-cam vliggers jump on the bandwagon and say it's weak. Lolso dumb! I've raced for years and can outperform decent riders on set up zx10R KRT's , rsv4's etc,,, (our track is a tighter track so supernakeds excel here) the suspension is an amazing set up,..it's not magnetic but the riders that need the R1M or mt10sp magnetic electronic suspension are the top level riders . If you have it set up by a Yamaha progresonal for your weight and preference it's amazing! Also the brakes get crapped on by people all the time as blfeeling woodlike, you can always tell when someone doesn't know what they're saying when they use that description becaue they are just copying the again professional reviews. Of course they are no Brembo set up u find on a tuono Factory BUT have Brembo components and IF you really actually can feel a difference,..all you do is switch to EBC brake pads and it solves the problem. Cheap fix but 90% of riders won't ever complain. It's an amazing bike at an amazing price! And each year Yamaha is bringing an R1 tech down. Was wuickshifter last year, next year is autoblipper and for 2020 an IMU option will be in. Pretty amazing.
    Ohhhh I forgot ,..gas,....it's not great lol. I was getting 29mpg when I think most other liter supernakeds are 35ish. Ontop of that it sounds so amazing and torque is so good to romp on it constantly and that hurts the mpg too lol well worth it tho! Only costs $6 to fill up.

    I took one on a demo ride in 2017 and absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, it seems like the manufacturers always find a way to ruin every bike. The bike guzzles gas and has a tiny fuel tank. I don't think the range is much more than about 120 miles (200 kilometers), which is a total deal-breaker for me. I don't care so much about the gas mileage, but a tank that small on a bike which is comfortable enough to use for touring is crazy. I used to have a Sportster with a 120 mile range, and it drove me crazy. I ended up buying a Suzuki VStrom 1000, which can go 250 miles on a tank. I'll never go back to a bike with a range under 200 miles.

    • @Englishbikerdan
      @Englishbikerdan  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a sad day when tank range is the deciding factor but that's the world we now live in. It is comfortable enough to be a tourer, I just hope one day they make a fully fledged touring edition with a 19 litre tank minimum!

Which makes it so much worse gas wise lol it's addicting! The torque jsut won't let you talent easy, jsu want to wheelie light to light! Lol. Butnit also only costs $6 to fill up so not too bad. I was getting 28mpg when even the top hp supernakeds are getting 35 (SDR1290). So yeah, not sure why Yamaha couldn't get that number up considering it's 160 verses 175 of the Aprilia v4 or twin ktm. I decated mine and was told if uounadd a race filter and reladh the ECU that number gets better along with hp,..jsut never worried about it.

      EnglishBikerDan yeah when I travel I really have to watch my gas gauge . And plan stops. Started carrying around 2 liters of extra fuel when going on a trip. If you decat it, race filter and reflash there are guys getting 33-36 which is like every other supernaked .

    • @lingenfelterzeeohhsix8154
      @lingenfelterzeeohhsix8154 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      jupiter22177 I couldn't justify the money for a SDR, in the US I paid literally HaLF what I would have for the SDR I looked at, notnwortn payig double for a SDR or tuono Factory to get a few more miles per gallon in my book. I paid $9,200 for anew MT10, SDR and tuono Factory are $17,500 if you can find one. Reliability is an issue for both and dealer support intnhr uS isn't great. Performance is near the same 175hP in the king of supernakeds and 160 in the MT10 but the MT10 is quicker to 60mph than both the kings so it's irrelevant. Inwas dissaponted a little in fuel consumption but 29 vs. 35 isn't a whole heck of alotnfkr double the price of the bike. Decat it, race filter and reflash the ECU and you're at the same number ,..and that's only $450 for ALL or that. So I'll roughly $8,000 less than a SDR. I LOVE the SDR and the tuono Factory but paying twice the cost for the same performance , better reliability by far, 10 times the dealer networks and cheaper mainentance and service costs jsutnmadenno sense to me , even as much as I was trying to find an excuse to go inenof the other two. Had my MT10 2 years and loved it!! I rode every naked and supernaked out there before buying and against half the cost it was as not a question.

    Hey Dan! new to your channel and motor biking (haven't even bought one yet), and i wanted to buy this bike after i get discharged from my military service and i was wondering if this would be a beginner friendly bike. I asked people and say that its a bit over kill, but i honestly wanted a super naked, and given your "profession" of bikes i was wondering if you'd suggest this bike. Also, I'm 174cm btw so comfort would be a factor too.
    Subscribed btw for your content 👍🏽 great in depth reviews! You deserve the credit ☺

      Hey there, thanks for checking out my channel. Many would say to you "This bike is too much for a first bike". It does have a LOT of power so you have to respect it. In fact one of my friends has bought an MT10 SP as his first bike so it can be done. He's not a young new rider though so I think age may play a part in it. The bike is very comfortable and can be ridden sensibly so it depends on the rider too. There's no hard and fast rules, so go with what you feel comfortable but just bear in mind, this bike has a lot of power but it also has electronic aids to help out should things get away from you. I personally would go for a mid-sized bike as my first bike, something 600 - 800cc with around 90 - 120bhp max but that's just my opinion! Whatever you choose, I hope you enjoy and ride safe. Dan

    • @Englishbikerdan
      @Englishbikerdan  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Alex. I've not ridden the MT09SP but I did ride the new shape MT09. My verdict was that it was really uncomfortable (for me) and that it felt a bit unbalanced and the suspension wasn't great. Amazing engine but I'd like to test the SP version. The stock MT10 is an amazing bike, very user friendly OR mad as a hatter and you get to choose which. I found the position to be so comfy and could easily bimble about on it as well as wheelie it all the way home! :D

    • @alexwotherspoon5630

      I've tried both 09's and found I kept sliding forward on my nuts pmsl 😂 The SP was a big improvement but has crappy tyres and was set way to soft but I'm sure all that is easily remedied..... Kinda don't want to test ride the MT10 as I know I'll want it 🤔😁
