@@mimoe7587 True. BoJack is a little more sympathetic of a character I would say. He’s broken and sad, and struggles with addiction. I guess that applies to Rick also, but at least BoJack cares about people lol. The only time we see Rick vulnerable and emotional is when he’s feeling sorry for himself. (Btw I’m not disagreeing with you, you’re 100% right, I just love talking about these characters 😁)

Warning: In terms of violent deaths, even Omniman would occasionally be going "Oooo, Rick - dial it back..." OTOH, Rick becomes less torture-y of Morty as the series progresses (heck, there's a noticable difference between the pilot and ep 2), though *occasionally* goes places that make this look light and fun...I'm looking at you, "The Vat of Acid" episode.

Short answer, no... but, he does actually care about him, even though it doesn't seem like it. Rick is just really, really selfish.

This is my favorite show on the entire planet and the key to enjoying it is just leaning into acceptance that Rick is an absolute monster. Expect the worst, and be pleasantly, emotionally surprised every once in a while when Rick makes a different choice

I can’t remember which episode had the first post-credit scene, but it happens pretty early in season 1. Those post-credit scenes are sometimes the best part of the show.

This first season is really rough around the edges but after that, it gets waaaaaay better.

It's funny because Back to the Future was the inspiration to these series: Rick and Morty are a play on Doc and Marty!
Morty gets more assertive as the seasons go on, but don't expect too much of that for now.. Can't wait to see more of this.
I rarely watch animated shows but I love Rick & Morty.
If there’s one thing you should know about Rick, it’s that he is a complex and interesting character. Even when he acts like a jerk, or says something that you may not agree with, part of you may find yourself defending him, or at least admit that he was right about something that you were originally against. My point is that Rick is a really great character. And I hope that you’ll react to this series all the way through.

This show is the Anti- Dr Who - Originally Dr. Who was a genius grandfather who had a workshop/lab at home and went on Time Space adventures with his grand daughter. In this case, Rick is an American dysfunctional alcoholic genius version of Dr Who who drags his grand son around on space / time adventures.
Did you notice the tribute to “Ren & Stimpy”

The show is loosely based on back to the future, justin first created a show called doc and marty so I love how you added the "he's an asshole" by Marty in BTF 3

You may have noticed by now, how *Rick's* demeanor and even the actor's voice work starts to tighten up quite a bit after this episode. They're essentially not as gross or sloppy, respectively.
I think the creators realized how funny it was _for an episode,_ but in the long run, it would get really old really quick. In fact, looking back at this first episode, I'm amazed at the difference in their characterizations.
From what I can see of the comments, people are telling you that *Rick* will essentially always be torturing *Morty.* But I don't see it that way. *Rick* doesn't do anything deliberately to *Morty. Rick* did not throw *Morty* over that cliff. *Morty* could have said no about sticking those things up his butt, or asked if there are any side effects. In other words, I don't see *Rick* as doing anything deliberately cruel to *Morty* which *Morty* didn't have an opportunity to say _"no"_ to ahead of time. 🤷🏼♂️

I love Rick and Morty! It's one of my favorite shows!! The first scene of the first is episode is probably my part of the whole series. It does such a great job of setting up the tone of the show, and gives you a pretty good idea of what to expect in future episodes.

In most fiction you suspend your disbelief, in Rick and Morty you also have to suspend your complete sense of decency and moral integrity. Only those who can do so can really enjoy it fully, if you can't, might as well give up otherwise you'll spend the whole time asking questions you'll likely never get answers to.
So sad that Cobra Kai didn't win the poll, but this is a decent substitute. Great reaction as always.

Rick and Morty is an amazingly chaotic and irreverent show packed with parody and social commentary, but there's a surprisingly beautiful meta narrative and some heartfelt moments in there too, plus some philosophy.
I'm sure you've gotten comments saying this already how I'm really glad that you Incorporated back to the Future clip in this considering the fact that these characters are based off of Doc and Marty. Leave the thing that they showed the networks to get it going was a lot more of a rip off. Then they did some minor changes to make it more legally safe

I just started watching this a 2 months ago, i'm now on season 3, this show is one big crazy ride. I think you will have fun with this.
