I went back to watch this music video after awhile and I gotta say I forgot how intense and brutal it was. We need more Raw music videos like this.
This song is so prophetic and so profound. "Stand on conviction / And you'll walk alone." Every believer, at some point, will question their faith and may even abandon it (like Tim here). Disciples of Christ included. All fall short of the glory of God. Many believers and unbelievers commit grave sins that take them to a dark place that will shadow them the rest of their days. It is often not until eternity is knocking on their doorstep and they are ripped from their carnal mindset of comfort on this earth that they are forced to face their own mortality and the idea of God and the hereafter. That realization of the infinite beyond this life can lead them back to the Light. But it is never an easy choice, and often requires standing alone in your convictions. "Only through struggle / Have I found rest / With a piece of me / Taken away / (Now I) Begin to understand"
You do realize they even stated they weren't a Christian band...right? They started getting labeled that and ran with it because it was opening a lot of doors for them.

I love every one of As I Lay Dying's music videos. They're very unique and have a great story behind them.
Totally agree man, I'd say there's such a lyrical advantage to scream vocals because it gives the bands the advantage to use any words, any sentence structure they want because you can just "scream them" in to your song. They don't need to rhyme, they don't need to have matching syllables. You can easily convey a message in the hardcore genre, and I feel that's what makes these songs so powerful.

Wow, the first time I heard the breakdown sometime in mid 2010 it made the hair on the back of my neck stand up and I absolutely needed a mosh pit. Now, every time I listen to Anodyne Sea in the car, I wish there was a law where you could just haul ass down the road without getting pulled over when this song is playing.
