  • I break down my setup, baits and locations I target for bass in northern natural lakes in the milfoil.

I like a heavy drop shot set up in the foil.

That is one thing I haven't tried yet. I will have too if I can find any foil around here now. There isn't much left with all the zebra mussels

THANX FOR AN ENJOYABLE VIDEO! Not sure if u had mentioned on your 1st setup (legend MH, maybe moderate?) what pound test FC you were using. I read to use a softer rod when using braid in order to provide some "give" in the setup. I've been fishing a heavy action 7'0 SC premier with straight 15# Abrazx without any issues, but am experimenting now braid to leader and braid direct to bait with a med-fast action rod. Was curious when you said you used the heavier gauge hooks to help get the hooked bass through the dense milfoil - wouldn't that require fairly heavy line to get that hookset with that stouter hook? I've often wondered cause here in CT don't get many bass over 6 lbs. and I use the lighter/non-superline Gamy EWG and Trokar EWG hooks, and have yet to open up a hook and lose a fish because of that, but I guess there can always be a first time! I worry with 15# FC that I could bust my line trying to get one of those thick hooks adequately into the fish! Sometimes during summer in our milfoil lakes the faster dropping, heavier weights get more fish cause the speed causes a reaction strike that you might not otherwise get with a lighter weight, even though a lighter weight could be adequate from the standpoint of penetrating (not hanging up) the weeds on the drop down to the bottom. So much stuff to figure out! I guess there's always different ways to get to a good result!

Bruce. Lots of good stuff there and the difference in weights. You were right. I use a St Crox legend MH moderate rod. I have had problems with how I set the hook and getting them out of the foil can be a challenge if wrap in the weeds. So, I go with superline hooks. Good luck out there.

Heck yeah. Favorite bite of the year for me but I never got into the craw tube. Maybe I'll try them out again this year.
