The shot on the RockStead felt like a shot straight in the nuts. Its so uncomftable to watch, but its insane how well the knive took the tests.

A fine example of "you get what you pay for" here. There are many things i consider overpriced, Rockstead is not one of them. I was completely impressed with the performance of this knife. The brick hits were painful to watch, but the mirror finish took so little damage from it. No sane person would use any knife for that kind of use. With the edge retention on that, it would make an incredible hunting knife for game processing. My greatest fear would not be using it, but losing it in the woods.

@@jacobyoung4657 I have a large inkosi, it’s a pretty good knife, but compared to a couple microtechs I have, it gets dirtier and very hard to open long before my microtechs do. Honestly disappointed in how it gets dirty as easily as it does when the tight tolerances are supposed to help prevent that. Overall, don’t recommend them, and their customer service is shit too.
Also you should send the busted knife to Cedric and Ada for Pete to do a test of ZDP 189 at 67 HRC! Do it for the community!

As far as edge retention goes, it's excellent and very easy to strop. It is prone to chipping though.
Pretty sure the edge retention this knife had was greatly due to a 67 hardness... It'd be interesting to see how other steels perform at that hardness as well

Amazing guys! You might wanna consider looking to get a digital microscope. That would add a lot of perspective to those micro-chips, showing exactly what’s going on, plus extra content, not that you need anyway lol ;)
Wow. ZDP-189. Tremendous! I was most impressed at the edge condition after the bricks and then how it came back to life in relatively short order. You really had that knife buried into that log when you shot it. Did you baton the butt to do that? Perhaps that "pre-stressed" the micarta and put a small linear crack in it so it could not take the intense vibration of the shots.

This is the first review video I’ve ever watched that had my heart pounding and I actually gasped when the handle shattered.
SO 2.000$ knife you can't do anything with but cut meat you guys aways complain about Knives that do the easiest Bush crafting Job...and they run about 100$ to 300$ and you say there not worth the money but they do the work you want it to..but you say it works but not Great but can still do the Job...now your all in love with a Expensive knife that can't do nothing...you guys love this knife but it can't do nothing... Too me that's the biggest piece of junk you ever had on your show... because it does nothing looks pretty but does nothing..its JUNK the Biggest piece of Junk...I would not trust this Knife with my Life....ITS

I had to pause the video and take a breather before watching you shoot this knife lol. I'm blown away by the performance of this blade and that it survived being shot at ~67HRC.
Me too, needed to get an extra beer for that. But it felt like a kick in the nuts when they shot the knife.
It apparently hit the handle, why not a slow motion presentation? At the very least, it hit part of the guard. Obviously, all the beating could cause micro-fractures already.

I think this test proves that super steel at high hardness are not as brittle or as fragile as glass. As a lot of people say they are.

after 30 cuts on that rope it was about as sharp as my sharpest knife....ok I want one....but i'd be afraid to use it.
Epoxy the handle halves back together then sand down to smooth finish. Simples.

That was an AMAZINGLY ENTERTAINING AND INFORMATIVE VIDEO! For anyone who has ever doubted the quality of Rockstead, this video gives evidence of it's excellence! That was hard to watch you guys destroying . . . of all knives . . . A ROCKSTEAD! 😰😖😩 That said, it was also like a great suspense, comedy, thriller movie all in one! 😎👍It was amazing to see what the Rockstead was capable of and good to know it's not all just hype. This is one of those knives I hope to get someday if I can afford it! If I do ever get one, it will likely sit in a display case in my living room! I definitely will NOT use it for battoning or striking a fire steel! You guys are awesome - very funny - I love your videos!

Way late on this video, but I’ve actually had a few relatively cheap production knives that could reliably shave a beard right out of the box over the years. I don’t know if I’m getting lucky or if factory sharpening has gotten worse over the last 20-25 years.

>67 HRC. >1900 dollars US. Fuck sakes people, you can send a cheap CIVIVI D2 60-62 HRC knife to CT USA to be TiCN coated after being razor sharpened and have an 84 HRC after coating. And when it goes dull, you can have the budget to send it back a bunch of times after it dulls. And have the budget for a few others to keep on hand. Background: I am an actual toolmaker and have been to ct to discuss coatings with a vendor, looking for edge retention because inconel and other super alloys.

It just struck me after watching the video that you guys are dressed entirely wrong to make this video. This is a fine very refined knife that deserves an honorable and fitting representation because it presents itself basically as refined royalty. This is the knife James Bond 007 would carry. You two should be wearing your dinner tuxedos while handling such fine cutlery.

same many knife bros who have never even seen this steel in real life like to talk smack about it because of what they read on a paper. i always tell them to be quite unless you try it. zdp is an amazing steel. but. it's not an outdoor steel. it's designed specifically for use in high end kitchen knives and it works amazingly well. I have 4 kitchen knives with this steel and I wish it was even more.
are the handle scales just epoxy'd or glued on??? For a $1600 knife I'd expect it to have a combo of epoxy and physical bolster scale attachments. Not that I'd ever shoot my knife, but seeing that I'd worry that if the knife was ever dropped on a really hard surface or was fallen on (while sheathed of course) that the scales would break off. Everything else was SUPER impressive. Never would I buy a $1600 knife but it's fun to watch my favorite Dutch Bois put it through the wringer.
