Personal preference for sure. That being said, my wife is Viet, and we spend a lot of time in Vietnam and Thailand. Actually just left HCMC 3 days ago. With the visa situation for me/us, would appear that Vietnam would be the obvious choice for us. We have retirement visas for Thailand, which is way more hassle for us - and costs. So, we spend the most time in Thailand. You said it at the first of your video - if you were in Thailand for a few months, then you'd probably "learn the ropes". Also, alcohol sales stop from 2pm until 5pm. One point on the Bangkok metro system - it's 1000% better than HCMC's metro.
I have never been to either, but for some reason Vietnam just sticks out as the place I would rather go to.
Never mind. That is your preference. Over 30 millions tourists a year is more than enough for Thailand.
I live in Thailand and have lived in Danang and I agree with you that one is not better than the other. They each have positives and negatives, I like them both.
Vietnam is a good country. Friendly people and beautiful landscapes. and has a culture as old as Thailand In the past we were both friends and enemies, now we are good neighbors. that helps trade travel between each other
As for anyone who likes any style that matches their own heart. Both countries are welcome. Thailand is more mellow. Metro areas in VN are more dynamic and fast pace. If you need structure and more predictability, Thailand is probably more suitable. If you’re more adventurous and spontaneous, VN is more rewarding

I'm Vietnamese, and being biased I think the food is better in Vietnam. Thailand is definitely more modern but I believe Saigon will surpass Bangkok within ten years. The beaches are definitely better in Thailand. I got scammed in both Bangkok and Saigon by cabbies. Definitely more options for more modern condos in Bangkok. I think if you're entrepreneurial you'll probably make more money in Saigon. I know English teachers make more in Saigon. I like the more relaxed attitude towards weed. 51-49% Thailand for right now.
@Richy Rich for the last 20 years Vietnam's gdp growth has been averaging 6-7 percent, Thailand on the other hand averaged a measly 2-3 percent, so it seems inevitable Vietnam will surpass Thailand very soon.

I live in Vietnam and I have been to Thailand, I find Thai life no better than Vietnam. If GDP is calculated correctly, Vietnam can be on par with Thailand right now. In addition to Hanoi and Saigon, Vietnam also has Da Nang, Hai Phong... Thailand only has Bangkok. Rural Vietnam is much richer than rural Thailand. Vietnam beach stretches from North to South and is also more beautiful than Thai beach.

Vietnam is real asian and is part of the Sinosphere, as opposed to Thailand who is not authentic and is pretending to be part of the Sinosphere. Im not even sure why people keep on comparing the two countries.
DNA results show that Vietnamese is dominantly Han ethnic, while Thailand's is dominantly from Tai-Kadai and Mon Khmer ethnic group.

Vietnam is known for its stunning natural landscapes, including the iconic Ha Long Bay, the terraced rice fields of Sapa, and the lush Mekong Delta. It also boasts a rich cultural heritage with ancient cities like Hoi An and Hue, delicious cuisine, and a warm and welcoming local population. The scenery is so beautiful and is home to the worlds biggest cave. Also IMO vietnamese cuisine is way better. But at the end of the day it’s all preference.

I'll never understand why people get so upset when someone expresses an opinion different to theirs. For me Saigon is far better than Bangkok, but that is what works for me. The traffic in Bangkok was no joke, at one point it took 15 minutes to travel a city block. It doesn't mean I don't like Bangkok it has plenty to offer.

I agree with your assessment. For me I will take Vietnam over Thailand. I also agree that it is totally a personal preference. I just think that the people in Vietnam are not trying to get over and tourist to the extent that they are in Thailand. I agree with you and the transportation 100%. To me, I like Thailand just a visit and I have a vacation but for living Vietnam is much better in my opinion. Thanks for the video and you’re honest opinions. I always appreciate that.

I’m big Thailand guy. Been to Saigon three times and disliked it each time. It is what it is. But you should def not write off Chiang Mai though. It isn’t an outdoorsy type of place….its a small and chill city. Def worth going once. Anyways, I enjoy your videos man.

These are two culturally polar opposite places. Thailand is culturally indegenous to SE Asia, while Vietnam is East Asian in nature.

Love Saigon. The food, amazing juices, smoothies, 1000's to choose from and most people are great... you just need to learn your scams and you'll be fine (e.g don't let anyone clean your shoes)
@@cinodogski484 in fairness Saigon exceeded my living and quality of life expectations but it fell short in the tourism department. I think it's pretty fair to say that it's lacking notable attractions for a city of its size.

What he's saying is that if you hand the driver your phone showing Google Apps with the location but it's in English, he will still be confused because it's not in Thai. I experienced that too. Personally I never figured out how to quickly switch my Google Apps into Thai language, so I too found that it's a lot easier to just order on Grab, and then the driver automatically has the address and map in their own phone.

Love Thailand for a holiday, but Vietnam better to live, in my opinion. Pity you would go to Phuket before Chang Mai, as Chang Mai is great. And , with all respect , when you are 50 yourself, you definitely wont be calling 50 year old blokes old.
Comparing motorcycle system in VN and say it better than BKK metro system, with this conclusion no need further comparing. You just don't like it.
I lived in Thailand for 7 years, and have been travelling often to Saigon for the past 2 years, I still think Thai food takes the win but just by a hair, and yes, definitely more of a "get tourist dollars" mindset as it is a huge part of the economy especially in the tourist areas. I would suggest to give it another go and try Hua Hin, it's where I lived and its about three hours south of BKK, still has things to do but it's definitely a more domestic tourist destination as well as large expat and expat retiree population. It has everything you want and need without the in your face tourist bs. I will say that Grab in Vietnam is awesome, but I learned to speak Thai while living there and its a lot easier to get around, but if on holiday then yeah transportation can be a pain in the ass especially in BKK tourist areas aka anywhere in Sukhumvhut between soi 2 and 28
Which one has better air quality thats what is important to me. I can’t deal with terrible air pollution. I prefer Thai food cause it has more flavor and kick bur Vietnamese food is good too.
i think this comparison is obviously based on very personal opinions and preferences. In my opinion i think Saigon is much easier to get around using a motorcycle or grab/be. but food wise bangkok still wins for sure. bangkok has actually turned very commercialized in the past 5-10years, so getting around in bangkok really sucks in that point because of the crazy and slow traffic. saigon is actually a good mix of modernity and tradition. this is a very subjective opinion due to everyone being different in character. of course one's experiences in each country matters a lot as well. for me i am not complaining if u put me in either country, i love them both!!!

What you expect make differences. If you fancy having wild night life with girls, go to TH, or else VN could be better choice for many other reasons.
No need to say which country is better, you just search for the most visited country in the world or the best country for retirement, then you will see the truth.
I prefer Vietnam because we natively eat with chopsticks, as for Thailand they eat with their hands and pretend to eat with chopsticks.

@@caribbeanexpat3927 it’s supposedly to discourage afternoon drinking and keep people focused on work… at least that’s what I’ve heard. Of course you can still go drink in a bar or restaurant, it’s just supermarkets and convenience stores. This is just an example of having to roll with it in Thailand. Some things don’t make much sense, but we can’t expect everything to be how we’d expect it back home, or it wouldn’t be Thailand with the amazing people and culture that makes it so special.
You get used to it pretty quick, keep beers in the fridge, or go out to a pub.
