At least that's what I envision, because it's a little odd (not wrong, just odd) being Coop's #2, who has everything, or access to/connections to everything... and here Sam is watching budget items for small price drops over months. Major props to Sam!

    Its time to get ready for the summer. All year working from home fat just built up on me like crazy. I will start with some short workouts in my home gym which I built a year ago. Also I found really nice meal plan at Next Level Diet. I hope this combo will get me in shape. If not, there are some others websites I believe. Wish me some luck.

    I feel like Sam’s situation with the equipment he buys is very relatable. Often times I feel like I see videos from equipment channels and they call something a “budget pick” and it ends up being like $500. This video shows that unless you are super picky and serious about gym equipment. You probably won’t notice if a knob on a bench “feels” expensive or if the powder coat is “bad”. Most people don’t actually sweat the small details and what you can afford is oftentimes times perfect for what you are trying to accomplish.

    Awesome. If you can travel to WV, you can see my climate controlled Amish Shed gym. This is great for people that have no home garage or very limited space. I started out in a bedroom with one set of adjustable dumbbells. I did floor presses, Romanian deadlifts, front squats, goblet squats, bent over rows, overhead press and shoulder/arm workouts with the dumbbells.

    • @THEJavelinX
      @THEJavelinX 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I actually prefer a smaller space because it means everything is pretty much within arms reach. I have a smaller space than his, with a foldable power rack and heavy duty safety pins by Ethos (with pullup bar), plate pins built into the wall (also Ethos) that are currently holding like 600lbs, an ironmaster super pro with dip handle (thanks Coop for the suggestion, AWESOME piece of equipment), a dumbbell rack (generic heavy duty mini rack, has 70s, 40s,30s,20s,10s with room for another set). I built a pulley system that attaches to the rack and has an OLY pin by Ironmind that I've had for years (used with rolling thunder and whatnot). Really the last thing I want is either a rower or assault bike, but they need to be foldable or compact.
      All this is stored in a 12'x4' space in my garage, I have horse stall mats that extend another 5' during active use (my wife actually pulls into the garage right over the top of them when not in use)

    • @skycloud4802
      @skycloud4802 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't classify this as a small space. The dude is lucky to have a whole laundry room for a squat rack. I have a tiny 1 bed flat. There's no way I'm going to have the space for anything more than a foldable bench and plate dumbbells..

    I do all of my dumbbell training either in a 4.5x10 foot space or a door frame (for strict reps) and am lucky enough to have a spare bedroom for a pull-up/dip station. Have a X-frame bike setup infront of my TV for cardio while I game or watch Netflix. Next purchase is a sissy squat.
    All for just over a $1000 Canadian. You really don't need a ton of money to build a setup that suits your needs.
    Looking forward to one day owning a nice cable machine in my basement!

    My home gym fits in a 8'x6' area which is the platform, with a full rack, and a small 2'x3' spot for my Ironmaster dumbbell stand. I only use some additional floor space when I'm using the gym. When not in use it only takes up that floor space.

I have a small gym too that I build mostly out of FB marketplace by seeing your tips but adjusting to my reality regarding money, space and my needs for working out. A cheap rack, bench, a bar, basically this same dumbbells, a bike plus small things here and there and you're good to go (everything bought spaced in time as finding my training personality). Only I use it so not worried about "too much use" will end up damage anything

    From there base your equipment on your goals.. ab rocker, bench, cardio, jump rope, etc. Save your money people.. I workout with nothing more than a mat ànd dumbbells..

    I've been using Walmart dumbbells for 8 years now. With the golds gym plates I can get them up to 70 without much fear the collar will unscrew and fall off during my workouts. But like you said their not the most convenient... But most of all they get very uncomfortable to mount on your legs after you start loading 50+ lbs.

LIKE if you want to see a PATIO Home Gym tour.

    i, too, have a dartboard! lol. also, great near the end, i spied what looks like a yes4all or whatever that brand is wooded box. riser box? idk but i literally just ordered one, and waiting for it to come in. gonna use with rings. start with a dip, then do a controlled descent. hell on the arms. it's really great on building strength.
    also, just found a sort of half rack at the used store yesterday. i know people aren't wild about the Marcy brand. but it was assembled and i was able to test it out. it's got a U-shaped footprint and the front posts are shorter, the pullupbar being on the back set. this is GREAT for the particular space i need it in the garage since there's some conduit that drops down and interferes. *for $300 i got the rack with lat pulldown, dip bars, and pullup.* (there's foam on the pullups and they are just horns versus a full bar that goes across but that might be helpful while my grip hurts.).
    online some people complained about the instability of the dips but really it's fine. yeah, frame moves a bit but not terribly so. and on other racks, people sometimes were saying the spacing on the dips made them unusable. so, being that i could test this out versus sight unseen through amazon, plus knowing i wasn't missing any parts..........
    and that black was probably the best color and i can just do color color with my clips and stuff. i won't be married to anything. cuz i'm partial to green but slim to none on decent affordable racks. the ones i was between online were yellow and orange. *the yellow hopped up a few hundred to add the lat. and the orange one was like $450, and had no dip bars.* so, i'd say that this was a pretty solid pick. is it the best quality? probably not. but, that'll do, pig, that'll do.
    it's like.... do you need a harley or a benz right out the gate? nope. would it be nice? sure.
    i can always upgrade later. i think i'll get quite a few years off of this one.
    tldr;
    between massive research scrolling amazon, plus google, plus watching garage gym, i've learned a lot! and the budget builds were really helpful!
    ((it's no on horse stall mats tho. had mine outside over a YEAR. still reeks. got some foam tiles that'll do. sure, will break down over time but it's definitely better than nothing! they seem pretty hardy and were $50 for a 6pk. probably gonna save for urethane plates, to avoid the smell/sickness issue. or go straight iron.))

    *so far my build is:*
    $569 foam tiles, curly bar, 7' bar, rack, some weights, a loading pin
    $40 olympic rings + $20mounting hardware (pair anchor brackets)
    $40 climbing rope + $14 mounting hardware (swing hook)
    $34 folding 1/2" 6'x2' exercise mat (for calisthenics, stretching, landing pad backup for rings and pullup bar.)
    $6 nylon webbing door anchor for exercise bands
    $11 nylon webbing handles for exercise bands, cable machines, various
    $16 barbell collars
    $71 adjustable squat/bench stand. (this will let me use my standard bar till i work up to the weight for the heavier 2" olympic plate bars. by benching is weeeeak.)
    $130 (was $160 with coupon) weight bench.
    - previously purchased last year -
    $30 doorway pullup bar, beefy.
    $40 ceiling mount pullup bar but to use on floor as parallettes, low dips and angled pushups.
    $20 straight bar, 5' barbell
    $60 or so in iron weights
    $60 set of exercise bands
    $86 for neoprene dumbbells 4, 6, 8, 10 lb in motivating colors. (mostly greens). the 10lb were $30 on their own.
    TOTAL: $1,213
    the only other kit i was considering:
    - are some adjustable handweights but the one from Northdeer, 60lb, the plates are mirrored silver and all screw onto each other as add ons. no dropped plates, no skullcrushers (literal), no broken noses. and it has a 3-piece standard barbell tossed in.
    - AND of course, some more 2" plates but since the bars are heavy, i might only want for the lat machine initially.
    (yeah this inventory was partly for me. realized i hadn't tallied, so figured might as well, and will save this. :P )
    - - - - - - -
    *currently building a bench/storage rack out of reclaimed and palette wood that the dumbbells should sit nice in, plus the small plates with 1" holes that are too small for the rack.
