  • Slow flight and stalls are very important manoeuvres to master for student pilots. For those of us that are more experienced they seem really easy now, but back when we were students we all went through the learning process with all the ups and downs that brings.
    Enjoy the flight

      any shot Flying eyes have or will have shades that slide over glasses for those of us who wear prescription glasses?

      @@JasonBeem They do have a really cool snap on for prescriptions. It uses magnets to snap onto the frame. I highly recommend them.

    Great instructing, Lewis. Condolences on the Euro final. England were desperately unlucky ☺️

    Good job with controls and with slow pitch up to stall. There is no way we can simulate inadvertent stall, but we can make the student wonder a bit when it will happen (slow pitch up.) We also need to emphasize that at low altitude, as in the pattern, we need to allow the dynamic neutral stability of the airplane to operate. As Wolfgang asks, "what does the airplane want to do?" So, after takeoff at Vy (way too slow for a crop duster anyway), what will happen in the turn to crosswind if we keep back pressure in? We will slow below Vy. What does the airplane want to do in the turn to crosswind? It wants to lower its nose to stay at trimmed airspeed and not to stall. Actually, the airplane cannot stall itself. A pilot pulling back on the stick is required. Let the airplane do what it is designed to do for your safety in turns. Good job guys.

    You sold me on the Flying Eyes, man! And I'm not even a pilot. (:
    Been wearing these for the last year, with prescription transition lenses, and really happy with them. I'm wearing a variety of headphones, including bone conducting ones, and over ear, and it's way more comfortable with Flying Eyes.

    I was a 300 hour pilot before I practiced slow flight deliberately in the air. Had done stalls. In Australia (and I think europe don't quote me), deliberate slow flight is not something we are taught. I flew last year in the US and asked the instructors there to take me through slow flight since I was curious.

    Question that I have never answered. What is a good target speed for slow flight practice? Approach speed I would assume? Since that is one of the purposes of practicing slow flight. But whenever I ask a CFI they just give me a ballpark number. And that’s probably acceptable, but I was curious if there was some guideline we should shoot for.

    • @LewDixAviation
      @LewDixAviation  หลายเดือนก่อน

      So in FAA terms from the Airman Certification Standards they want you to "establish and maintain an airspeed at which any further increase in angle of attack, increase in load
      factor, or reduction in power, would result in a stall warning (e.g., aircraft buffet, stall horn, etc.)." They don't give a specific number because stalls speeds differ from aircraft to aircraft and also different conditions may induce a stall warning. I've always instructed students to do slow flight at 50 KTS (landing configuration) and 55 KTS (normal configuration). Countless checkrides later - no problems whatsoever. I recommend testing it out though. See how low you can get the speed without stalling and try and hold it. If you're hearing the stall warning then increase the speed little by little until you're free of the dying cat noise.

    I'm a Brazilian and you've got more Brazilian football shirts than me, mate... 😂😂😂😂
    In my opinion, the most beautiful Brazilian shirt is of the 98 FIFA World Cup. The 1970 shirt is also iconic.
    I think these new shirts are quite ugly.

      Power on stalls were soooo uncomfortable/scary for the longest time. One day though it stopped and by the time I was getting close to my checkride I felt totally fine doing them. Old me would be so surprised to hear that!
