    This was very informative and I think lots of people don't think of all of these steps before they 'just start making' a garment. It is alot of work to go through the whole process. Thank you for explaining it so well. Yes, I would like to see more makes with all of the explanations. Even if it has to go beyond 15 minutes, I think it would benefit all of us.

    You are my favorite designer! I have been watching your videos for awhile now and they are so helpful. Also, I can't believe I didn't know you had a background in biology! That's my current study and I think it's so cool that you can apply your expertise in one to help your expertise in the other! I do have one question and I wonder if others have the same: when sewing or making your own self drafted pattern, how do you decide which seams should be sewed up first, second, etc?

    • @KimDave
      @KimDave  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Morgan for your comment.
      Personally I assembly pieces in a way that the outside and inside look neat.
      It also depends on if you’ll be having lining, French seam or bias binding finish for the inside of the garment.
      I think everyone’s process is different but who knows there might be an official garment assembly chart somewhere

    • @pneumarian
      @pneumarian 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      there is a sort of "official" order to follow, I don't remember its name, it's what all the major pattern companies have used for decades. The basic idea is to start with seams closer to the center, & work one's way out to the extremities. It's not necessarily the "best" method, but it is the easiest way to get a decent result, which is why the pattern companies adopted it. I know a book about it is on Archive.org, but I didn't bookmark it when I found it.

    Figuring this out is something historical costumers are closely familiar with, and something I often do in general. I often find myself peering closely at hi-res museum images to figure out the seamlines and grainlines...

    Hi Kim this is exciting! This may be a silly question.. but Would you ever consider deconstructing a sleek blazer and tailored pants and explain what types of seams give a more tailored look, and how to use the pattern pieces to grade up/ for larger bust and waists? I love the tailored looks from Zara and but the blazers and pants made for plus size bodies look so frumpy and outdated.

    I think if you show a basic sloper for 1. dress 2. bodice 3. skirt 4. pants 5. how to design from the sloper for any other style. You would be covering the basics for us want-a-bees to maybe learn something. Something is better than nothing. How much ease should be built in - For ex. front and back crotch of pants. For you I am a fan and admire your passion and creativity.
