Satara Rest Camp In The Kruger National Park - Walk Through, Accommodation, Shop & More
Satara Rest Camp, situated in the central Kruger National Park, is the second largest Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park, and it is very popular with South Africans and tourists alike. This is big cat country, and many big cat lovers stay at Satara so they can get an early morning start to look for Lion, Leopard and Cheetah.
Satara Rest Camp is rich in bird life, especially in the summer months. Bird calls can be heard throughout the day, despite how busy this camp is. Satara Rest Camp is approximately half way between Tshokwane Picnic Spot and Olifants Rest Camp, and is in the heart of the Kruger National Park.
There are some fascinating animals that come out after dark in Satara, including the resident African Wild Cat, Honey Badger, Genet and Civet. Scops Owls and Nightjars can be heard, while Hyena patrol the fence.
We filmed all areas of Satara Rest Camp so you know what to expect, or just if you want to reminisce because you are missing the Kruger National Park. In the background you can hear bird calls that are commonly heard in Satara Rest Camp.

My favourite bird... when was the video taken as the Woodlands kingfishers come back around October... but I'm in the south.

The Woodland Kingfisher only arrives in mid-late November unfortunately, this was just a bird call added to the video. Thanks for the comment

@storiesofthekruger Thanks for the correction, I know I'm missing their call & await eagerly their return. I will definitely look into going to Satara in March as I will spend 2 weeks in the Kruger for my birthday.

@@AudreyR458 Not a problem! It is my favourite bird call, and we will be in Punda Maria during March, so looks like we will both be hearing them. Have a great trip for your birthday 😁😁

    Hey thanks for sharing!
    - can you tell me what is the power/ load shedding situation in the camps? How long were the cuts and did the generators always work?

Thanks for the comment! If you download the app Eskom Se Push you can add certain rest camps to your mobile device. This will give you the schedules for load shedding in the Kruger. If you are going to an area like Olifants for example, use the closest gate town as your selection, which will be Phalaborwa, and they are on the same grid. Enjoy!

Apologies, the generators always work, except the bush camps, but the main camps were all fine on our last 3 trips. The cuts were normally 2 hours exactly.
