I really like the look of these boots. I was very close to pulling the trigger on these a few months ago. Around the same time, Thursday Boots had a warehouse sale. They had a pair of Diplomats in Cinnamon Oil Snuff Suede with a lug sole on sale for $150 (normally $199). They look very similar to the AE’s, so I bought them instead. After hearing your review, I don’t regret my purchase and even saved $50 for the same look.
I have these exact boots and love ‘em. The best thing about Allen Edmunds is their sizing they have eee sizes that fit me not many other places sell all the width options Allen Edmunds does. Also, in my opinion some things people point out as qc issues are really not worth fretting over
Love, love, love my Weatherproof Hamilton (strand) boot, and Chromexcel Patton boot. In fact, try to find a weatherproof dress boot like the Hamilton without going to English brands. On sale both were under $340 each.
Bro, I went to the AE store on Long Island.. you should’ve seen their stuff. Like yo.. even their display boots, welt joints wherever they felt like it, up by the vamp, sloppy and mismatching, crazy grain breaks, etc. Then I’m looking at the “Dainite” on them like “wait.. this isn’t right 🤔” I’ve had mad Dainites in the past, theirs are off, like a proprietary with a Dainite stamp. The material is different, the writing, no “made in Britain” that slant at the waist is off, the studs were off, it was wrong. If you compared the two side by side, it’s undeniable. At the time I was wearing my Viberg 1035, so I compared them. I was just poking around the Roosevelt Field Mall, AE sucked, but they had a Uniqlo lol
@@YouShoe-1985 I think they have a deal with the brand or something, either letting them use the name, or making them sub-par versions that aren’t made in Britain. Weird 🤷🏻♂️
thanks for the detailed feedback! i'm still on the fence about getting these so my question is, for $200 which would be a better buy for an everyday waterproof boot: timberland 6 inch premium or the AE freeport in your video? i'm looking for a comfortable, casual boot to wear when it's cold and rainy
I’m so sorry I meant re-soleable meaning it’s made with a good year welt and if the rubber lugs ever wear out you can just take them to a cobbler to get them replaced instead of just throwing away. The Timberlands are just a cemented construction so when the soles wear out you just have to get another pair.
You mentioned Thursday Boots doesn’t make a boot like this. They have a nice looking diplomat lug sole suede that’s pretty solid. Might be worth looking at for some though it’s not exact same thus as AE of course.
I tried Allen Edmonds factory seconds in HM but it took three tries to get a descent pair. The QC at Allen Edmonds is not good (the first pair of boots had a faulty insole, and the second pair of boots were not the same size). I really do not think I would ever pay full price for HM boots. Great content!
At full MSRP, most shoes are not worth it. I would not pay manufacturer suggested retail price for Allen Edmonds, Red Wings, 1000 Mile Boots, Alden, etc. The best deal, product quality to price, is Jim Green. And I only buy Jim Green on sale.

Review the Allen Edmonds Liverpool. Just got a pair in Espresso for 175 bucks. Feels EXTREMELY different than my Freeports.

@@Coleone139 a lot of AE products are very disappointing, and I’ve always wondered about the dainite thing also.

I’d personally go with the AE’s because they are responsible but the classic look of the Tinberlands is pretty nice.
@@YouShoe-1985 got it. can you please clarify what you mean AE being responsible? i'm still a newbie to boots haha

AE is not my thing at all. Quality control is very iffy and retail prices are thoroughly unrealistic. Plenty of options which are way better.
I'm only buying AEs on ebay from now on. Firsts are way overpriced now. Even on sale price. AEs are no longer worth the retail price.
I hope ABC Mart buys them and gets the original families back involved.
Deep discount , no return
AE is absolute junk.
