PRIUS Front Stuts | 2007 Second Generation

How to change the front struts / shocks on your second generation Toyota Prius (2004-2009). This is a relatively easy job that can save you a lot of money to do at home.

Nicely done video! Good lighting and camera angles, which made your work easy to follow. I don't know from where you obtained the torques that you cited during reassembly, but the Toyota shop repair manual for the 2nd Gen Prius states that the torque for the three nuts that hold the strut assembly into the top of the strut tower should be 29 ft lbs (rather than 37 ft lbs), and the torque for the two 19mm strut bolts should be 113 ft lbs (rather than 177 ft lbs). Also, the torque for the 17mm nut that holds the sway bar link to the strut is 55 ft lbs. Again, thanks for taking the time to document and share your repair experience with the rest of us!

This helped me change my own struts and sway bars on my 2nd gen. If you’re wondering if you can do this, you can! Make sure you have the right tools, and a dremel with a strong cutting attachment in case you need to cut your sway bar link bolts off like I did!! Thanks so much

I put on the cheaper LKQ struts and yes, theyre horrible, but my mechanic also was able to put them on without removing the cowling so maybe a reason why theyre bad too.

mine are clapped out at 120k. most likely the rear struts too
