Great request and reaction. Elvis Costello has sooooooooo much fantastic material for you still to cover. I think with Elvis Costello a lot of our favorites are based on what we were doing when the music came out and how his wonderful lyrics connected to our lives. I remember when this album came out

"Does the extinguished candle care about the darkness?" wow. The lyrics are by Elvis who is the poet laureate of rock/pop. This whole album is FIRE! "God Give Me Strength" is outstanding, also from the same album.

Elvis' music has spanned such a wide spectrum. From 'punk' to Bacharach... A popular song of his that I didn't really identify with when it was released hits home a lot closer for me now is Veronica. A good one for a reaction for the lyrics ;-)

I love this entire album, it came out while I was going through a divorce and this track wrecked me
I grew up with Elvis C. in my teens. As he diversified and expanded his sounds and songwriting (see: "SPIKE") I went right along with him, much to my surprise. Some fans didn't... their loss imho

Wonderful song - this must have been very difficult for EC to sing. Burt usually wrote challenging songs for vocalists, such as in "Alfie".
This album is such a masterpiece. It was recorded with a full orchestra. You hear all the Bacharach, and you hear the softer side of Elvis Costello. It's just brilliant. This song to me is sort of "A House is Not a Home, Part 2" in a way.
I still want to introduce a lot of early Costello to this channel. But too much to choose from. What a run of albums - My Aim is True, This Year’s Model, Armed Forces, Get Happy, Trust, Imperial Bedroom, and later on Brutal Youth. Can’t pick a favorite.

It's a "Goodbye love" album. Very heartfeldt. The best album og the 90s!
Something different, but an absolute genius piece of songwriting and recording. Costello and Bacharach fill the missing piece in each other. Bacharach with Hal David or otherwise is legendary.

I remember walking through a record store when I first saw this album and I thought what a weird combination but I figured it had to be worth a try. So I bought the album and I really liked it.
Very soothing song. Sounds like Peter Criss voice (I Finally Found My Way).
I bought this album 20 years ago….I first played it while working from home ….
I had to put it on twice to believe just how good the whole thing was….
Fave track is” I still have that other girl”… try it …it’s emotionally outstanding

This Elvis Costello album and an album by Dutch artist Trijntje Oosterhuis are two really good Burt Bacharach cover albums. Both were, I believe, also produced by Burt Bacharach.

As usual Bacharach does it again! Elvis sang well on this tune.
You gotta commend Nicknlex for always finding the good in something... that includes this song, which is, quite simply, not easy for me to listen to. It's not top shelf Bacharach, and I don't know about Costello, cuz I've never listened to him.

Not really, but maybe in a more magical world. Was that Bills Bruford and/or Cobham on percussives? My intuition counsels otherwise. It wasn't about the drums, sadly. Or happily! :)
