It's crazy how nearly every career surfer legit has the same accent. It's not even stereotypical, it's just statistics

Which is what a stereotype is, a statistic 😂

@@Ozzymandius1too bad, save up bud.
Why don't they just build that texture into the board...
Or even spray a bunch of liquid wax on then carve patterns into it?
skateboards arent built with grip tape so surfboards aren't built with wax or texture either
@@ohayaato7441but at least the skateboards comes with the grip tape as standard, surf boards don’t at all and the wax wears off
Hey, that's a good question!
🤔Maybe the way you wax a surf board is similar to the act of keeping a really great recipe 🤫
each person who surfs will have their own process and strategy on how to handle the tiny movements & details on how they want to work their boards through the water.
@@jimjamthebananaman1I think it’s way more standard to see decks without the grip tape, most people who buy skateboards customize their own setup. It’s usually those who are new who buy pre-built skateboards with the grip tape included. I believe the market caters to more individual skateboard components more than anything.

This is an absurd amount of wax on the one board in the vid. At most you need like 1/3 of thT
Must add a bit of weight
@@HeavensMouthpiecealso it’s so caked on that it’s kind of smooth across the top and probably slick.
Isn't that too much? Daaaamnn
They scrape most of it off. Don’t worry, bub.
@@SurprisinglySmartSaltShaker777they scrape off old wax, so they just keep that wax on which is way too much
@@wacaheadI’ve seen many surf boards in my days. And none of them looked like that. Also, at the end, you can see them scraping it off
@@SurprisinglySmartSaltShaker777 at the end it’s a clip of someone scraping off old wax
Yes 100% and a huge time waster to put so much and then taken it off? Tf
I understand they are fancy wax sellers and they want you to use as much of their products as possible, otherwise it doesn't make any sense.
yeah seems redundant to apply so much wax that you're essentially just putting wax on top of wax.
The guy was just flexing his medical marijuana card while promoting his fancy wax😂
That’s a gift card to a vegan fast food chain lol we don’t need medical cards in California
i think it needs 2 more bars of wax atleast 😂
When you're sponsored by the wax maker.
Perhaps our feet were stickier in the ‘60s. We just rubbed a bar of wax quickly across the clean board surface (while standing waist deep in the water - to be comfortable) and then surfed. The board totally non-slip. I’m not gainsaying this technique - to each their own, but the board couldn’t get more sticky than it was, so I don’t get it.
It was also easier to clean with a handful of beach sand and reapply when it stated getting sandy a tearing you up a bit. Good video and interesting fellows though. Hafa Adai!
Cool info💯🔥
Well I can tell you I’ve been surfing for about 30 years and I have NEVER applied that much wax in my life. Even to this day. That’s a crazy amount
@@Floridaman8783thank you. I've only surfed a dozen or so times, but I have CERTAINLY never seen a waxed board that looked like that. I was wondering how common it was.
Is it not a widely known fact that the average stickiness of the human foot has had a significant decline in the last 60+ years? They would never survive out on the waves today with anything less than ¼ inch of lumpy "whaahx" to stand in as an artificial replacement for the natural foot stickiness of surfers in your age bracket.
@@Delicate_Disaster Ahhh! I guess that’s why my feet keep dragging nowadays. I need to grease my feet! 😊
Vocal fry go crazy
Imagine having a kid and you decide Hogan is the best name you can come up with 😂
LOL at some point, you’re not waxing the board anymore. You’re waxing the wax.
for those wondering why wax and not grip tape or some type of sandy no slip texture- when youre surfing, you spend 95 percent of the time or more either paddling with your whole stomach and lower chest touching the board, or straddling your board waiting with your butt and thighs touching it. (although some smaller longboarders paddle and wait on their knees). If the surface was abrasive at all you would get horrible rashes all over your body, wax is bad enough as it is for that. there is only a very small amount of time you're actually on your feet, unless youre at a world class point break on the right day.
He forgot to mention that you want to make sure your wax weighs more than your board...🤙
Chaa-dude😎🤙

_“Excuse me, some of us would like to order.”_
Funny how in skating wax is used to make ledges slicker, and easier to grind, whereas in surfing wax is put on the board to keep you from slipping.
As a surfer i have never put anywhere near that thick of a layer on jeez 😂
Edit : or seen anyone with wax that thick lol
What's w the scrape removal right at the end? Is that the discard of old to redo? They leave it on super heavy?
yes and yes
@@MM-bn5yc much obliged : ) the editing was confusing
no sane person uses this much wax, especially when it's crazy expensive like most surf waxes are. this is the kind of heavy waxing you do when building boards, not when you rewax it down the line. you should need less and less wax for each new coat you put on. putting this much on and then scraping it off just causes issues like scratches, uneven wax placement, and it prevents it from having a streaky look to it in the sunlight.
waaaaaaxxxx thaaaaatt
What is this surf ninjas with Rob Schneider
“It’s all about waahhhxxxx”
As an ex surfer who surfed for about 5 years every day, this is ridiculous. "Profesionally waxed," even a high temp surf wax on the hottest day will melt, that ginormous unnecessary amount of wax added is hideous and will definitely melt or stick to your wetsuit. This must be some dumb trend. Not to mention that much is just stupid and wasting the wax. Also, a lot of surf boards nowadays you can add aftermarket foam traction pads.
its interesting to me, surfers wax the top of the board to put their feet on so it Doesnt slip. while Snowboarders put wax on the Bottom of the board to Increase the slip of the board on the snow.
I always imagined wax to be slippery but I guess not!
Sand sticks to it which helps
Why so much wax
You need it for traction and grip… you literally just said that!!!
You don’t need THAT much that’s an insane amount lol
As a skateboarder growing up it always fucked my head up knowing you guys use wax for grip lol trips me out i cant comprehend that
So this is satre that insider mistook for real? Lol
“ wear it with pride maaaaan”
That accent comes with the purchase of your first surfboard
I always wanted to know why didn't yall add grip tape? Like thin strips of fine grit grip tape? Just seems more grip and less work. Plus would look better
Because 95% of surfing is laying on your chest, rubbing your torso all over the board. You would either sand your nipples off or shred your $600 wetsuit
If "You got soft hands, brother" was for surfers.
Dude is a vital component of the Idiocracy. 😂
56 years old and never knew this... I knew about the wax but never thought you would use so much, makes sense.. THanks!
The wax is really important guys.
*scrapes it all off with a card*
My feet are grossed out at the thought of squishy between my toes. 😂😂
It's not squishy. It's hard for grip.
I just use my grandma's shower mat, glued it on. My grandma broke her hip in the shower but it was worth it.
Why don't you stick traction strips (same strips used on outdoor stairs) to the board so it eliminates the need for wax?
That wax looks like the stuff that comes out of my cats when they throw up lol
The board has more bumps than dudes brain.
Oh yeah man that's why he has a job and you are whining about a grown man on TH-cam. 😂 Sad sad man aintya
@Steve.._. lol yeah a "job" if you say so.
Totally tubular man 🤙ways out! Uhuhuhuhuh!
I feel like stereotyping in this case is correct. He sounds exactly what I think someone like him should sound like
Yeah, here in the Midwest i say we would melt the wax to just before solidifying and mix it into hoper and spray it onto the board. I could probably patent an invention that would do this.
This dude has no clue what he’s doin.
Bro definitely says “gnarly” on a regular basis
This is the opposite of why I thought you waxed a board 😅👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Anyone else love the sounds it makes when he’s rubbing the bumps with more wax?
surf ninjas echoes in my brain as i watch this
It's funny cuz just in recent years I've learned that the wax goes on to of the board for grip 😂
I didn’t know I needed this knowledge but thank you
It's crazy how much wax he put on there just to scrape it off.
17 bars of wax in and just finished the base coat 💀💀💀
modern surfboards are made of fiberglass and coated in a varnish. If you try to add grips or anything to it, it will fail as the varnish wears off over time. That's why wax is used, it's cheap and safe and works great.
Sadly son, you have no idea what you are talking about. But you had confidence. There is no varnish and the fiberglass epoxy doesn’t wear off. Most people add sticky traction pads that pretty much stay on forever.
Somebody stop him😅
That's overkill🤙
I'd love a full Video of waxing a surf board🔥❤️🔥🔥
You could immediately tell this guy is into surfing within 5 seconds of him speaking
Imagine someone with his accent in a boardroom, there must be some people that end up with senior corporate jobs, that would be hilarious
I trust this guys accent only for telling me how to treat and prep my none existent surfboard
I love the medical card at the end 😂😂😂
So spend 5 mins waxing then 8 hours waxing the wax, gotcha
Yeaahhhh liiiike totalllly man.
Reminds me of The Californians off SNL lol.
Man, thanks Hogan. I never knew what life with wahx could be like
Don't laugh, but for my whole life I thought that when surfer's waxed their boards it was to make it go faster in the water I never would have thought is was to keep the surfer from slipping and sliding on their boards.
Literally perfect voice😂😂😂
So many split opinions on wax. Im not a surfer but I did skate and some water sports. People compare it to grip tape which isnt really fair. Grip tape is holding onto a (usually) rubber sole and wax is directly on your feet. Surfboards are also wayy heavier than skateboards and you need to really be able to transfer the torque from your hips into your heels and toes, which dont have great grip to begin with. So… what we learned is they are both their own sports and you cant use the same measuring stick for unrelated things. Surfing ≠ Skating and wax ≠ grip tape. Not the same.
the surf board started at 20lbs. After waxing, it is a Yankee candle that smells like sandalwood.
That cannot be the amount of wax they actually put on. Good lord.
The end of the clip looked like he was going "snowboarding" instead of surfing 😅
Teflon foil it better than wax and removable in one go
No preimo kush bud survived this interview 😂😂
I always thought the wax would make it slippy and I never understood why 😂
Damn.
I gotta thank my lucky stars that I just have to worry about airbubbles in my griptape, because that looks like it takes two hours at least.
This guy is practically surfing a candle.
Time for a Point Break TRAINING MONTAGE!!
Why not just put gip tape or the pads you see on paddle boards?
Why don't surfboards have grip tape like skateboards? Seems like it would be the ideal solution
Usually wax would be used to reduce traction on things rather than increase it
The voice reminds me of that Ron Livingston coffee sketch
Looks very professional indeed. :D
yooo emerson college represent!❤
Ohhh that makes much more sense. I was always confused about that, cuz i thought the wax was to make the board slicker so it was more hydrodynamic.
And i always wondered how surfers kept from sliding around on a slick board.
So yeah, this makes more sense than what i thought.
It's all good I come from snow country we wax the bottom of the snowboard to seal it/keep it hydrated and reduce friction. so I thought the same when I moved to a beach town lol. I was quite confused until I got an explanation.
I’ve always wanted to know why but I don’t know any surfers. Good info.
“Why do you wax surfboards?”
“More friction”
“Ok, so why do you wax skis”
“Less friction”
Skis : The wax is applied to the base of the ski and melts slightly when it interacts with the heat generated by the friction between the ski and the snow. This thin layer of water created by the melting wax further reduces friction and allows the skis to slide more smoothly.
Surfboard : Surfboard wax, also known as surf wax or traction wax, is applied to the deck (top) of the surfboard to increase friction. This wax provides grip and traction for the surfer's feet, allowing them to maintain balance and control while riding the waves.
I literally had no clue the wax went on top
Surf board wax seems like one of those weird tradition things. It really seems like we should have found a better alternative to this by now.
If vocal fry was a person
This would of helped when I was trying to skim board. I couldn’t get grip to stay on
theres prolly some foam or material that whould do this better ,idk if its marketed but i can think of a few lmao
"What does that say, Anaya?"
"Whox?"
