    Nick, the goalkeepers vision is usually blocked by the wall of defenders in front of him, so it makes it more harder to anticipate the trajectory of the shot....they have only the last few milliseconds to react

    A quick explanation of ball spin and swerve. The air inside the football had a different air pressure than outside. The kicker puts spin and lift on the ball, the swerve comes as the ball de-accelerates with the spin counter acting the straight line.

    They missed the best free kick for England supporters, when England were playing Greece in a World Cup qualifier. England needed at least a draw to send us to the World Cup final, but were behind, 1-2, and we got a free kick, just outside the penalty box, with literally only a couple of minutes left to the end of the game and not making the finals! David Beckham stepped up and curled a beautiful, unstoppable shot into the corner of the goal, leaving the Greek goalkeeper helpless at getting a hand to it! All of the other free kicks in that video you saw were fantastic, but none of them had the pressure that was heaped on one man, for one country’s World Cup ambitions, in a momentous couple of minutes, than that amazing, superb free kick!

    With the keepers, the ball is going so fast you only have a splitt second to decide also the fact that keepers vision is blocked, so the Wall covers one side and the keeper tries to cover thr other side.
    I would love you to react to Ronaldinho. He is the greatest entertaining Player of all time. If he didn't love the party life to much he could of easily been the G.O.A.T.

    The ball spins; top spin makes it dip, clockwise spin makes it start out right and swing back left, anti-clockwise spin makes it start out left and swing back right. The spin creates air friction on one side of the ball and on the opposite side the air moves faster with the spin. So, if you kick the ball with top spin it brings the ball down quicker. You are applying drag to the top of the ball and reducing air pressure under the ball.

    The science behind the curve balls is the same as in baseball but using your foot:
    The direction of the ball is affected by the spin it’s given. To spin the ball, you have to kick it off centre. The thing is though, the exact part of the ball you hit will change each time depending on distance to target and direction of wind.
    For example, you could have two free kicks in exactly the same spot but if the wind is different, you have to perhaps change the height and/or flight path of the shot to get to target.
    This means you might have to use different parts of the foot and on different spots on the ball each time to get the same result. It requires God level skill!

    The curve is caused by the magnus effect: for example when the ball is rotating to the left seen from above, air is passing the left side of the ball faster than the right side. The faster movement creates a space of lower air pressure, because less air molecules are in that area compared to the other side. So the ball will move in the direction of less pressure, creating a curve to the left.

    Most of the time when the goalkeeper sees the ball coming over the wall, it looks like it going straight towards him, then it suddenly curves off to the right or left leaving no chance of saving it. That is why they appear to not move.

    Those Roberto Carlos goals, are with earlier type of balls. Nice and a bit heavy. They wouldn't swerve a lot.
    The new ball is like a balloon. For every scored free-kick, a handful hit that fan, that just took a sip of his beer.
    Even Ronaldo, very honoustl, admitted he wasn't always sure where the ball would end up.
    Those hard Ibrahimovich goals are from close by, I am not sure, but the same ball might miss the goal completely, from further away. Past 15 years the balls are flying from left to right, up and down. Keepers don't even catch anymore.
    But Roberto Carlos and Juninho, those were the experts. And Ronald Koeman for sure. He shot so hard, he'd kick the first free kick straight into the wall, and the next freekick the wall looked terrified.

  • @1969JohnnyM
    @1969JohnnyM ปีที่แล้ว

    The defenders are often blocking the view of the free kick so the ball is often well on its way before the goalkeeper gets to see it which means its often too late for him/her to save the shot.

  • @anthonyv1719
    @anthonyv1719 ปีที่แล้ว

    "Why is the goaling not moving or putting up a fight"? Several possible reasons. (a) Ball is shot - by the time he sees it - too late - he is frozen. Takes 1 second for the human mind to computer (b) Sometimes the goalie will shift his weight to the wrong side - and when the ball is shot, it is impossible to move back before the ball is in the net. NOTE: The best goalies do not stand in the middle rather to the left or right of the wall - that way if the wall does its job - he can usually stop anything at him. However, most of these goals are either over, or around the wall - result, goalie is helpless, aka frozen, aka not moving/putting up a fight as you asked.

    Probably worth noting that they are always messing around with the design of the ball to enhance or improve the Magnus effect to make it easier to achieve and more predictable. Every world cup they get a new design based on the latest science.

  • @hitorikimorgan8457

    Keepers cant move from their spot until they see where the ball is being kicked, meaning if they d just run behind the wall players could just shoot straight on the side where no barrier is set (reason why keepers get there).
    Considering the time needed to realize where the ball is going, there s barely any chanche a keeper can reach the other side to intercept, unless the shot is either slow or not angled and mildly central. Whenever you see the keeper trying to move lega then moving it s cause the ball is already pretty much in the net.

  • @True_Heretic
    @True_Heretic ปีที่แล้ว

    The goalkeepers sometimes don't move because they realise that they have already been beaten before they get the chance to. I was a goalie years ago and was never beaten in that way because we used a different type of ball than they do now. The modern ball obviously swerves all over the place if hit right. The old balls couldn't be bent and were much easier to anticipate where they were going. So you always dived because you could roughly anticipate where they were headed. That's why all the clips in the video are only from the last couple of decades.

  • @briangeorge286
    @briangeorge286 ปีที่แล้ว

    Firstly, the goalkeeper doesnt know which side of the goal the kicker is going to aim for, so he has to wait to see where the ball is going then react. Then there's the fact that the wall is partly obscuring his view, and you'll notice the attacking team may stand some players in front to further block his eyeline. Also they may not dive because they have played the game so long they are fully aware of the goals proportions behind them to the nearest millimetre, and with some shots they just know they'll never reach it, so it may be better to not dive and hope it rebounds off the post or crossbar.

  • @milosstefanovic6603
    @milosstefanovic6603 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    And you have to know different kicks that player can kick, they all have different flight. Curve kick, top spin kick, dipping kick and knuckleball kick. Goalkeeper has no idea what kick is coming

  • @federicojpp
    @federicojpp ปีที่แล้ว

    The keepers stand because the goal is so big they put the wall in front of the direct trajectory and they stand next to the farther post. That way if you want to score you need to bend the ball to avoid the wall and come back to the goal, of course that's really hard, son when you are able to do that when the goalkeepers sees the ball go through the wall it's to late, they will never get to the ball on time so a lot of times they don't even try because you already beaten them

  • @Rokurokubi83
    @Rokurokubi83 ปีที่แล้ว

    The ball isn’t a perfect sphere, it’s like an American football. With divers where it’s stitched. That allows you to spin the ball so wind pressure is higher on one side than the other, not dissimilar to a plane wing, air takes longer going under than over generating life, just now a skilled played can decide which is the the high and low presssure side on a spoon, pushing the ball towards the lower pressure.
    Easy to learn, a life time to master.

  • @dayus_pita
    @dayus_pita ปีที่แล้ว +1

    there is two ways you bend the ball mid air
    one is to put the spin on it which is most of freekicks in the video and others have explained it in comments
    other way is knuckleball which requires a bit of fluid dynamics, in lower speeds or normal speeds the air around the ball is in laminar flow and ball shows predictable movement but at very high speeds ( if you can kick it hard enough and accurately) air around the ball is in turbulent flow making the movement unpredictable
    if you have time try reacting to some KNUCKLEBALL IN FOOTBALL

    It's *NOT* about "going over" the wall.
    It is not about up and down.
    Look at the balls. They swerve *LEFT* and *RIGHT.*
    (It's a complicated principle of physics)
    He has to fleece the opposition.
    He has to get around the wall;
    Then he has to make the goalie head for the wrong place;
    Or he has to make the goalie *SO UNSURE* that they freeze in the headlights;
    Or make the goalie *SO CERTAIN* that they know, that they head to the wrong place!
    Just like pool, you can put top, bottom, left and right on a football.
    The mastery is to make the goalie go to the wrong place; and let the "screw" suddenly put it above, below, left or right of them.

    If you don't find football exciting, just look at what my team, Sheffield Wednesday have just done this last 2 weeks. We ended the season on 96 points, the highest points total a team has ever gotten and not got automatic promotion. So we then had to play Peterborough in a two legged play off (home and away). We played the first leg away and lost 4-0. No team in playoff history has ever overturned that much of a deficit. In the home leg, we scored 3 goals in normal time, then there is stoppage time, for any delays in the match. 6 minutes extra was added, plus any additional stoppage time within those 6 minutes for injuries, time wasting, substitutions etc. Sheffield Wednesday scored in the 8th minute of stoppage time, with practically the last kick of the match. This made it 4-4 on aggregate, so you play 30 minutes of extra time. Peterborough scored first, then Wednesday equalised with just a few minutes left. The match ended at 5-5 on aggregate, meaning the tie went to penalties. Sheffield Wednesday won on penalties and are now in the promotion play off final on Bank Holiday Monday 29th May at 3pm BST at Wembley. And to make it more exciting, it's against our local rivals, Barnsley. Our whole season has been laden with historical records. It would be a travesty if we lose on Monday, especially to one of our local rivals.

    Clearly compiled by a Man United fan what with so many Beckham and Ronaldo clips. As to keepers not covering themselves by trying to 'get it'...they haven't a clue which way the ball is coming from until its either over or around the wall. At that time, if their weight is on the wrong foot they can't do squat and by the time they've decided they can do something, its usually to get the ball out of the net.
