I understand American have difficulties to understand the fealing and atmosphere we live in Europe, and how we live the sport . Each city has thousand of years in history, and , as supporter of one Football club of those cities , you are not only supporting your team, but you rappresent your City and your Country, in your nation, and outside your Nation .It's not just a game, it's about your identity in the history. I'm an A-c Milan Fan, my father was, my Grandfather was, all my Family is, AC Milan exist since 1899 - and Milan is my City, and Italy is my country, and AC going arround the world playing, is rappresenting my City and my Country, that's why, we support them always and everywhere and in any condition. you should read the chants of the Napoly fans, that's what they are saying in the chants " We are alsways here, to defend our City"
It’s easy, Even for american sport customer, to understand: your club is part of your family. It doesnt matter if it’s the best or Not. It’s Family, it’s your Club, your town and you will support passionate and defend it 100% till your end.
I really can't be upset at Americans calling it football. Here in Ireland, we call Gaelic football. We use soccer for what the rest of the world calls football. Even Rugby used to be called football.
In Europe it’s called „American Football“ 🏈 Our German Word (for Soccer ⚽️ ) is „Fussball“ and it is meaning exactly the same thing. Foot (Fuss) - Ball (Ball) So American Football should be called Handball 🤾🤣😘
@@MakeSomeNoisePlaylists You would be surprised how history is not foreign to me. I was saying about people's minds and willingness to fight. In US it's all lead by corporations. Look into Europe's war history. You will be surprised
It means exactly you can see. Germans soldiers killed a lot of Warsaw citizens, included childrens in Warsaw Uprising. See polish movie "Miasto 44" (City 44) Then You should understand. Greetings from Warsaw Poland.
@@Maximus439 No. There is a reason Football is the biggest sport on the planet. In Europe, Asia, Africa and South America it is close to a religious cult at times. In the 90s and 00s when teams that were historical rivals clashed in a match fans of said teams would take it to the streets to riot and fight. People dies on daily basis after football matches. This has of course been toned down bu governments over the last 20 years. But it still occasionally happens. And its not just one country, That happened in UK (famously cut short by Margaret Thatcher) in Poland, Germany, France, Spain, Russia, Italy, Serbia, Croatia, Turkey, Marocco, Egypt, Sweden, Brasil, Argentina, Chile and many more. Its because for a football fan, their team doesn't just represent themselves or the players. It represent the cities hondred or thousands of years of history (Especially in Places like London, Paris, Berlin, Warsaw, Athens, Moscow, Madrit, Rome), it also represents the people of that region, their distinct culture and heritage and when the team plays a international tournament their country. Why is that the case? Because teams here have HISTORY and not just 50-70 years of history 100-200 years of history. The average age of a team in Premier League is 137 years and the oldest team this season was Nottingam Forest founded 158 years age and the youngest was Leeds United founded just over a century ago. On the contrary the oldest soccer team in the US is Milwaukee Wave founded 39 years ago. Thats less than some football fans in Europe watched their team for. In the NFL on average a team is 68 years old and the Exception to this rule is the Arizona Cardinals that were founded 125 years ago. Also for the record. Yes Soccer is business in contrast to European football. Why do you think in every top League in the USA the teams that play there are there forever? For example there will always be the same 30 teams in the NBA and the same 32 teams in the NFL? Because having rotation would make giant contracts for superstars impossible if they were to implement the relegation system. The teams that were relegated would not have enough money to support giant contracts and the teams promoted would not have enough money to give out giant contracts. Its all about money. Keeping the same teams makes finances stable. But this approach is only visible in American pro leagues. Example in Premier League a team like Man UTD, if they play like shit (example of tanking in NBA) the last two spots each season get relegated to a lower league, If Man UTD were to somehow be bad enough to get one of those spots, well sorry not sorry relegation and we don't give a fuck you are one of the most important teams in history of the league. Thats called passion and opportunities for small markets not buissnes, as you could imagine loosing a team like that for the pros is not good for business
I worked in Serbia and got tickets to Red star Belgrade vs Tottenham (England). I think Tottenham won 4 or 5-0 and every time they scored the Serbian fans just got louder and more intimidating. easily the most impressive atmosphere I have witnessed.
the fan is the 12th player of the team which is an integral part of the club, in defeat as in victory we support our city team. the players are very close to the fans, it would never come to the idea of ignoring them, without the fans there is no team. the football team is part of the family. and it's not just europe but africa and south america is as much, see maybe more
What you gotta understand is that these aren't national teams, these are just teams representing a city. So imagine each country has it's own league equivalent to MLS/NBA/NFL and within that league is probably 3 or 4 teams that have fans that class as "Ultras"
Within most of the leagues, EVERY team has ultras. In Germany, Italy, France and others, there is Ultras for teams like down to fourth or fifth tier teams. There are countries with a few powerhouse clubs that attract most of the fans, but even the smaller teams often have passionate support. It's a religion over here. My hometown here in Germany has a fifht tier team with Ultras. And there is multiple teams with Ultra groups in this amateur league. It's amazing.
@@turtlewhohatescabbage1157 can agree with that. With my hometown club we played fiths division for 5 years and still had support in every match and at the final promotion game which was on an normal wednesday at 7 pm we had an away game nearly 300km from our town and traveld there with 700 people to support our team for the promotion to the fourth league
Almost every team will have ultras, obviously they're much more famous because of their ownership now, but think of Wrexham, just came out of the English Fifth Division and they have so many fans. A lot of clubs even down the ladder are like this but it doesn't get televised as much because they don't have famous actors for owners.
It's not about competition, it's about love and passion. Football is our religion. We chant, encourage our players by jumping, singing and screaming with our hearts.
For Marseille in France it’s not the echo, it’s the other part or the stadium who answer to them, it’s like a conversation between two parts of the stadium (but between supporters of the same team (Marseille))
As Football fans we understand ourselves as part of the Team, we are the 12. Man. So we have to do our best to push the 11 People on the field forward. It doesn't matter if we are the best team in the world. It doesn't matter if we are winning or loosing right now. Its even more important to push our Players if we are loosing right now. Besides that it's a lot of fun to sing, jump and cheer with 40-100k people together.
My old man took me to our stadium for the 1st time when I was 7. Since then, I travelled all over Germany for my team and still do. We once won a German championship 1967 and still celebrate this every single match. It's not just a part of life, it's more than life, it's your identity, your community, your city... I'm waiting every single day for the next generation to be old enough so that I can take them to the stadium myself.
This is how men in Europe channel their aggression. Not with guns. Not in other public spaces. Not dangerously (usually). Quite a good way to channel negative emotions and get positive ones.
None of these clips are from national teams so those are not nations coming together, those are just normal clubs based in cities like the LA Lakers or Boston Celtics in the US. So those fans aren't from all over the nation, they're mostly just from the city/region of the clubs
Not even… cause most big cities have several teams, here in Europe. And may be in the same division, like london has many for example, I live in Belgium and Brussels has 3 in our first division. While in the USA the Celtics are indeed in Boston, but it’s the only team, not in the city, but in the entire state. We shouldn’t compare sports in the USA and in Europe, it’s something different, it’s passion vs entertainment. Love vs money. We don’t have cheerleaders or a half time show, it’s about the sport and about supporting our colours.
6:14 During the WW2 in Poland there was a upraising in Warsaw, and every year fans from Legia Warsaw (club on the video) make this type of art, to memorise how Nazi killed a lot of Polish people in Warsaw
@@larrydzemorsky1777 German, even in WW2, doesn´t equate to Nazi. The ones responsible for these atrocities were usually SS units, these were Nazis. The Wehrmacht was busy trying not to die to the Russian onslaught at that time.
Football is about place and identity, regardless of social problems, it is many times an escape from that. Also each city has either one team or maybe intense rivalries of two or more within that city that go deep and many generations back. Some hate each other and the passion comes from that, see Rangers v Celtic in Scotland, North and South Italy or River plate v Boca Juniors in Argentina!
4:37 You are celebrating the club, so the team! You americans think in states, in Europe we have our cities. That’s like a heritage from the times where cities were like states (so medieval times). Imagine the other team is like an invader, and the players of your club, so mostly your city, fight them on the field. It’s a damn great feeling to participate and when your team scores and wins. Whuuuu ciao, sometimes depending on the opponent or tournament, the stadium erupt like a super volcano 🌋…
Doesn't matter if your team is the best or the worst, my whole family cheered for my hometown team for decades, we will ride with them untill the end. This legacy thing!
In Europe a lot of sport is tribal warfare by other means. Most matches are "meh" who cares, but when rivals clash, or there's an ongoing political conflict it all comes out. It's really toned down a lot over the last 30 years, back in the 90's and earlier a lot of big matches were followed by the fans taking to the streets and fighting each other.
That happened so often because on those years football was and has been used as a dog whistle for fascism in Europe. So if some of these displays of chantings and gestures look to you kind of fascist is because they are so.
What you have seen from Greece isn’t normal every weekend,it could happen but mostly when it comes to a match agains real rival from the same town or Region, then it is like war. They hate each other like nothing else. The video are great to watch, but to really understand you have to feel it in the corner of your team. It’s amazing when up to 80 thousand sing and dance as one. You will never forget in your life
Not everyone is drunk, there is so much history, rivalry going on. This is an outing of passion and power. Believe me they are pretty serious. This not only country but also region, city and city parts related.
Except the PAOK ring of fire we need to add in the credits that the song of Ajax fans comes from a PAOK's famous old song that still they sing and the Partizan's song the same as well...no hate to Ajax neither to partizan fans
I’m an African from Ghana honestly I love all the chants but I almost cried when I saw that of Poland and the man pointing a gun to the kid, what did he do awww. It might have been a bad day , really sad
Yes is for our team/ club. Our team ,our club is the best in our opinion. ❤. Every country has his clubs/ teams, when our team goes and plays in another country we suport them.
You have both clubs in that compilation. Red Star and Partizan. The Belgrade derby in Belgrade, Serbia, considered to be the most dangerous derby in Europe.
The amount of passion and love from european football fans to their clubs is unmeasurable! And can't be compered to anything. And answering your questions, it is Warsaw Uprising anniversary
Your team represents your city. Doesn't matter if you have the best players or not, doesn't matter if your team doesn't have the finances to buy the best players, it's your team, your colors and you're willing to give your life, spend your money following your team across the country, all over Europe. That's what an ULTRA is. Put 5000 ULTRAS in a stand, they're gonna bring the house down, even if it means that your voice will be gone the next day. That's an ULTRA for you
One American(NBA fan) who visit Croatia (my home country) , and few other countries in Europe told me - In USA we folow player, in Europe you follow team,... and thats true, if not home club then some other in own country or another great team in Europe or world, not to mention national pride..
I'm pretty sure the Napoli chant at 4:08 refers to Naples' resistance against nazis in WWII. They're probably the people in Italy patriotic to their city the most, sometimes even more of the country in itself

We don't necessarily think our players are the best. I support a team that often have to fight to not be relegated to a lower division but at every home match, the stadium is filled and we support them with all our hearts because we know we can make the difference, we know that our players won't play better if we don't support them. So we sing, we support we push them to give the best of themselves, we win with them and we lose with them. That's why supporters are often called the 12th man
4:35 Bro, 99% of football fans know full well that they arent supporting the best team and that you wont win every game. By my personal experience i can say full well: We suck. But its not about that. You dont choose a club, it gets introduced to you. You take pride in the colours of your kit. And every single team that has any form of fans (like a handful are enough) has its own songs - which are partially several decades old and were sung by your granddad when he was young. Its pride, its heritage, its culture. My club stands exactly for the values the people here grew up with. In the past we made a lot of money producing steel. Hard work, always getting back up, blood sweat and tears are things we expect. We dont expect the best, the fanciest, the mind-blowing. We expect an honest day of work for their (tbf very handsome) salary.
13:03 btw Dynamo Dresden are currently in the 3. Liga, equivalent to the league **below the G-League** in the NBA (which i am quite sure doesn't exist lol)
6:38 That cut is ... interesting. I didnt thought i would start laughing seconds after the Polish Uprising banner, but here we are. The fact that they already talk about the fine they get for doing this is hilarious.
12:15 that's not people coming together for one country; that's a group of people coming together for one football club! You don't get how insane football fans really are compared to fans of any sport :D

I am not a soccer fan, but many of my friends and coworkers are. It's not only cheering on their team, it's almost a religion. A year back I went to a German soccer game with some guys from work, you can feel the entire concrete stands flex and move under all those people jumping in rhythm. It's insane.
You need to be aware that soccer has been used as a dog whistle for fascism in Europe. So if some of these displays of chantings and gestures look to you kind of fascist is because they are.
You have to remember it's Random, Not choreographed; These football chants start with only One person's voice and it spreads through the crowd like an instant Sound Virus... I've known my brother to start singing football chants on the terraces and within 30 seconds 'Thousands' of people are ALL singing the same chant...

Thats called passion and opportunities for small markets not buissnes, as you could imagine loosing a team like that for the pros is not good for business

the fan is the 12th player of the team which is an integral part of the club, in defeat as in victory we support our city team. the players are very close to the fans, it would never come to the idea of ignoring them, without the fans there is no team. the football team is part of the family. and it's not just europe but africa and south america is as much, see maybe more
What you gotta understand is that these aren't national teams, these are just teams representing a city.
