firstly, you guys are my fav aos podcast. great content and insights. i love it
secondly, i totally disagree with the idea that battle tactics becoming more interactive is anything but a good thing for the game. both players can and should attempt to deny their opponents’ battle tactics when they can. it’s not a feels bad when both players have the option available to them; it’s another strategic facet of gameplay. tbh the comment about it potentially being poor sportsmanship was really surprising-what makes battle tactics so special compared to other forms of point denial (killing units, taking control of objectives, etc)?
again, love you guys keep up the good work
exactly, I was very confused about how denying battle tactics would be bad sportsmanship? In any game, the objective is to score as many points as you can and to prevent the other person from doing so? Any skill differential between players is part of the game.
Haha I think I was shooting from the hip with this idea - I haven't had enough time to properly articulate it
3:01:41 Reading the text on Power Through, it does say that you can “pass through” the enemy unit, as long as you do not engage a new unit. You can stay engaged with the original target, but you do not have to stay in combat
That's what everyone assumed it says, but if you read it again you'll see it says you can "pass through and end that move within the combat ranges of enemy units". You can only move through the combat range of enemies, not the enemy models.
Even if the survival guide doesn't save me, what's one more trip to the Anvil?
With an attitude like that, we'll see you in the Ruination Chamber soon
thanks for the detailed video!
I felt attacked by the double reinforced Tempestor comment. Who WOULD do that :eyes:
@@captnkoolcat8269 no decent person would ever use such filth, surely
The problem with bravery and battleshock etc is the CP/Strategems to let you auto pass. Get rid of that insane bravery crap and all of a sudden, you can be rewarded for setting up a big battleshock hit or play to add additional casualties to that one critical unit that just has to die this turn. 9th edition Night Lords stuff is a great example of having really flavorful negative leadership play only to have your opponent say "oh thats cool, but I dont care, all that means nothing after this one CP ill spend to auto pass". tl;dr, keep the flavorful game mechanics in, get rid of the immunities.
Even if you removed the immunity to battleshock losses, I don't think the mechanics of it were very good. It wasn't very fun losing 10+ models in a unit after 10 of them died, or having a Stormcast run away because one of them died.
Love the new look!!
Just 3 minutes to sighhammer phase
Get Vince for the skaven review
A lot of command point abilities are good, but they still cost command points, a limited resource. I will be curious if there are characters who grant additional command points or the use of command abilities with lowered cost like some characters in 40K.
There could be some special units that allow the use of Commands for free
Maybe even a special Stormcast unit...
Considering the Command point economy this edition, just giving your opponent one for free EVERY round is a huge deal. I think you are too quick to dismiss how big of a deal this is especially with how strong command abilities now. Besides, I would much rather have an organic limiting factor to spam than something so inelegant as the rule of three.
It is a significant downside to bringing even one Aux unit, but if the benefits of spamming a good unit (or just skipping the hero tax) outweigh the extra CP you give your opponent, then it could quickly become a problem
@@TheStormkeep honestly I haven’t seen any reason to be concerned at that even being a possibility. Everything that we’ve seen so far has been really balanced, and the extremely strong looking scrolls we have seen are all Unique so spamming isn’t even possible.
@@faust5894 that's fair, it could end up being just fine
Though GW does have a long history of making some units very spammable and annoying to play against, like Dire Wolves and Shield Annihilators in 3rd ed
How does roar work on opponent’s turn? If the opponent get to use all their abilities first such as the fight twice for the DoK, does roar do anything?
The active player uses all their abilities, and then the opponent uses all theirs, and then you take turns fighting with units.
Krondys' Soul-Shaking Roar only prevents an enemy from using Command Abilities, not all Abilities from being used.
@@TheStormkeep right but there are combat abilities that also use command points like the DoK fight twice. Since the opponent gets to use it before the Roar, that means that the Roar can prevent it unless you use it on your turn when you have priority on activations.
@@woofergranade2044 It will depend on the specific timing of the abilities, so yes it can change based on who the active player is. Had not considered that specific interaction with All-Out Slaughter!
Do you choose a battle tactic after you roll for priority? I can see choosing a crappy battle tactic you know you can't score anyway if you roll a double turn and decide to take it
Choosing a battle tactic happens at the Start of Your Turn, which is after the priority roll
As someone who abused Kroak’s Death Mask… bravery will be missed.
Im sure Seraphon have some other nonsense they can abuse instead :P
Kinda surprised you kept mrigank on the show going into 4th ed.
Why?
I just want to know how l am suppose to play now and when GW is bringing back my dudes.
They're not coming back, at least not any time soon :(
not being able to aoa in the shooting phase honestly wouldn't have surprised me in the nerf edition, remove everything fun edition, the once per game one unit 12" wholly within on a 3+ edition.
Ugh so many 3+ rolls this edition. It will get tiresome very fast
@@TheStormkeep the core rules are good but the indexes are like binguy put in a long weekend.
@@rotm4447 They gotta nerf everyone so they can get you hyped about buying the battletome that buffs it back up
