    Everything Everywhere All at Once is probably the best *overall* movie I've seen in my entire life. The world building was fun and worked so well that you just accept everything and I laughed so hard I almost passed out during 2 scenes.. and when you can have a silent scene with two rocks on a cliff that can make you cry, you know the storytelling works just fine in such a bonkers way.
    I love most of what A24 has produced, but The Daniels make such joyful movies. Most of A24's library are tense, dark, sad or just flat out depressing movies, this was just a breath of fresh air haha

      Weird bit of info to add. They just want to be referred to as Daniels, cause as they say “we’re just a couple of Daniels, it’d be a disservice to Jeff Daniels or Lee Daniels to claim that name.” To me they are The Daniels as well, but I like the way they think about it.

      I also didn't like Kung Fu Hustle but I appreciate it of course, I think some people just don't like that really fast cartoony Moulin Rougey silliness and overuse of CGI. My eye gloss over when people start wire fighting or something is in front of a Speed Racer level Green Screen.

    The main issue with WB/DC is that the people in charge HATE comic books.
    They hate them and they think they’re lame and stupid. They just know that they make them a lot of money.
    Which is why they always jump to projects that are “grounded” “gritty” and “dark”.
    It’s why they can’t comprehend that someone as powerful as Superman could simply just be a good person.
    Because they themselves are shady and cynical people.
    Just like Snyder’s “living in a dream world” rant.
    Any hint of adult complexity with these characters and stories is mind blowing to them, because they’re still stuck on thinking comics haven’t progressed creatively since the 60s.
    They hire people like Snyder and Goyer because they consider them “comic book guys”.. but even those dudes only enjoy very specific material. And they have openly expressed their distain for anything outside their wheelhouses.
    There’s some exceptions, like James Gunn, but only when it’s a proven commodity of some kind.
    Not everything needs to be the MCU, but the reason that’s been so successful is because they go out of their way to understand the strengths of the books. They understand the “rules”, so they earn creative license to break them on occasion..if it adds up to a better story.

    • @hcstubbs3290
      @hcstubbs3290 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You're so right. And it's funny that the stuff that does well captures the tone of the comics. Superman and Lois for example is awesome and I've never heard anyone hate on it. Why? Because it captures comic book superman so well. The Batman and The Suicide Squad worked well because they felt like comic books put on the screen. I wish the execs would notice the stuff with less studio interference and more comic book influences work better.

    • @bigdadybojangls9219
      @bigdadybojangls9219 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@hcstubbs3290 I disliked Superman and Lois because eventually it turns into the standard CW shit.
      That being said, it is still the most comic accurate live action version of Superman we’ve ever seen. The first episode is so great imo. Better than anything we’ve gotten from snyder

    • @bigdadybojangls9219
      @bigdadybojangls9219 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Yeah I feel like they saw that “grounded and gritty” worked for Batman, who is definitely a more grounded character with whom you can do a lot more gritty storylines with, and just decided to apply it to all their properties.
      The last fucking thing Superman should EVER be is “grounded and gritty”. Superman is one of the most popular characters in media ever and he got that way because of the characterization he is normally given. He is normally incredibly inspiring, down to earth, and above all just a good guy. Yet these hacks go with characterizations that people either were kinda just okay with, or outright hated.
      You have stories out there like American Alien, All Star Superman, Superman for All Seasons, Whats so funny about truth justice and the American way, and whatever happened to the man of tomorrow. All of these are such fantastic and inspiring stories that make you feel so hopeful about the world. But instead, Snyder decided to adapt shit like injustice (which is good, but we don’t root for Superman in it), Superman: earth one (which is ok), and the New 52 Superman (who fucking sucks).
      We have so much media that paints the world as this awful and unforgiving place. A Superman movie should pull us away from that feeling

    • @BetaBreaking
      @BetaBreaking 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bigdadybojangls9219 I find it funny that WB ignores the fact the DCAU from the 90's/00's perfectly captured the respective tones and characterization for both Superman and Batman while keeping them consistent across different shows and seasons.
      Like the Justice League show was the perfect example for how to modernize their origin in a way that's mature but appeals to kids as well. The Batman is a perfect example of a movie that captured the essence of the 90's show, comics and Arkham Games.
      Superman isn't hard, there is 80 years worth of source material. He's the optimist and symbol for hope in the universe. Sure he struggles but he chooses to persevere, not because he's a god or feels the need to enforce his self righteous beliefs but because he knows in his position he has a responsibility to himself and the world to do better (basically what Marvel did with Cap).

      @@bigdadybojangls9219
      Yup. Also, they don't seem to realize that other comics have been doing way darker stories for decades.. 'The Boys' Homelander is a much more interesting, creepy and disturbing character than any Superman they're ever going to make, and there are twenty more where he came from. Let Superman be Superman. Let indie comics and alternative movies do the dark underbelly versions. They'll do it better.

    I think the difference between past WB corporate shenanigans and Discovery is that Discovery actually has a fairly solid record of building and running media companies, particularly for niche audiences and that have HEAVY merch and marketing components. Discovery, Food Network, HGTV, Animal Planet, Travel Channel. Most of WB problems have been at the executive level, and at the very least Discovery seems to be almost boringly stable.

    • @anthonyhernandez4266

    • @BetaBreaking
      @BetaBreaking 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. Like they've cornered their markets and are doing surprisingly well both on network, streaming and TH-cam. I think DC needs that sort of rigid but bland structure. WB is still trying to approach the DC properties like they're Disney with instant brand recognition and infinite money.
      Hopefully they can consolidate everything because having the Snyderverse, Main universe, Reevesverse, Black Label and TV is already a gigantic headache. It's starting to feel like the comics with countless different continuities and versions all existing at once occupying the same space instead of filling different niches. Just make it an Earth 1 and 2 type situation, Earth 1 main continuity and Earth 2 has independent or solo stories that aren't related to anything like The Batman or Joker.
      And for the love of God pls build up the universe and Justice League properly this time. Darkseid and the New Gods is too much to kick off a universe, especially if you're drawing from the New 52.

    All this DC floundering to get their MCU equivalent started _TODAY_ is hilarious. I mean, I get why they were behind Marvel back in the day because by the time Nolan was done with the dark knight trilogy, the MCU was already on the first Avengers movie.

    Everything Everywhere All at Once, might be one of the most personal weird and beautiful movies I've ever watched. I felt as though it was speaking directly to me, as a child of immigrants who happens to be a bit different, i felt myself as both characters Evelyn and Joy. Also, I love that this IS about a woman of a certain age rather than a guy, because we dont see alot of stories like that. To it's core, its a mother daughter movie about acceptance and learning from your parents mistakes. But its just so much more. It weird to think about a movie that has a security guard somersault himself onto a buttplug trophy in order to gain multiverse power has a way of dealing with deep issues, but goddamn does this movie just go places. It made me cry.

The nods to Chinese cinema, like the slapstick Kung Fu Jackie Chan is known for, the nod to the magic realism Kung Fu movies, the Wong Kar Wai nods, and of course the love letter to Michelle Yeoh and her career. And even with all these fantastical elements at the heart of it's core was a family drama. One of the most relatable family dramas I've ever seen. And Ke Huy Quan's range was in-fucking-credible!!! The way he turns on and off the emotions in split seconds in certain scenes blew my mind.

    So The Bad Guys just releases in the US. Learned it dropped in Australia end of March. Given Nick’s and Maso’s love of Maid Marien from Robin Hood I gotta hear their opinions on Diane from the Bad Guys, and the rest of the film itself I suppose.

    The sooner WB accepts that the DCEU will never be financially what the MCU is for Disney, the better for everyone involved, the actors, the production crews, the executives, and most importantly those still patient enough to follow developments and call themselves fans

    • @bigdadybojangls9219
      @bigdadybojangls9219 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I feel like they could get there, but they would really need to stop where they’re at, hire a creative head who actually reads AND LIKES the comics, take a few years of actual planning, cast likable actors and come up with their own stories that aren’t just copies of the MCU.
      DC has so many great characters and storylines, it would be a shame not to see some of those on the big screen

    • @Kango234
      @Kango234 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seriously when the MCU started they said they wouldn't try and copy it since DC heroes are larger than life and would work best separately. I'm not saying that's strictly true, but the best stuff DC has done has been stuff that is isolated or just ignores continuity like The Suicide Squad. I think they actually have a strong like up of shows like Superman and Lois, Harley Quinn and Peacemaker. I think if anything they should push those shows more on HBOMax.

    • @bigdadybojangls9219
      @bigdadybojangls9219 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Kango234 they should do like 5 years of solo stuff for mainline characters like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Green Lantern and the Flash. Give them all small cameos within each other’s shows. Superman and Batman can have larger cameos in each others shows, Aquaman and Wonder Woman could have larger cameos in each others shows, green lantern and the flash, same thing. Have Martian Manhunter appear every now and then and be the character that brings them all together
      AND THEN a large team up series for the Justice League with a bit more focus devoted to Martian Manhunter. They do this, they can make the stakes higher and crazier and make it based off of Grant Morrison’s JLA run.
      I read the solo books for most of these characters before reading Morrison’s run and it made the JLA stuff feel so much more important and impressive

    DC will never find a Kevin Feige. He's just too unique and Marvel got so lucky to find him. He has the experience, he's business savvy and on top of that he's a comic sweaty who knows and loves the IP really well.
