    I completely agree regarding Palutena's behavior.
    Unfortunately, the biggest problem is that Pit kind of enables her to do that. He doesn't ever seem to overly object and just accepts whatever she does. He essentially just lets her get away with treating him like that. So, in a sense, Viridi is right, Pit is kind of "an insufferable suck-up".

    • @SnowyWolborg

      It'd probably be more difficult to find any servants who give their deity superior any backtalk. I doubt Arlon talks back to Viridi.

      I feel like even if pit wasn't always an suck up he would still never say no to palutena because 1. She is a god and 2. Without palutena (or in this case viridi) it would be very difficult for pit to be a effective fighter

    I actually think there's another person from Greek mythology that could fit better than Hercules. That one is Jason, Captain of the Argo, with his comrades the Argonauts, and having been trained and raised by his teacher/master, Chiron. Of all the Greek Heroes, he's the one who fits the most as a great warrior who lost everything.

    You talk about having no real connection to the Chariot Master's master, but what about Chiron? Chiron trained Heracles, along with many other heroes, and ended up dying, due to Heracles accidentally shooting him with a poisoned arrow. Yes, he was immortal, but he renounced his immortality, and died in exchange for Prometheus' freedom. There's your dead master, and it fits with your theory.

    No insight as to who he is, but he's still my favorite character in the whole game, solely because of that dialogue. I can't really describe what it is, just the pure power of it. Dividing the two steads so that only one can leave alive. "This is no gift." Just how unyielding he is, how weathered and strong a soul, that this is the only way it can end for an old warrior. The finality of it all is my favorite moment in the game.

    i also forgot to mention, if you will notice, the chariot master had a piece of cloth around his legs. i think that represents the nemean lion fur that heracles wears. also, when heracles accidentally kills his master chiron, he goes to mount olympus riding atop his lion skin, on a fire, much like the chariot master is made of fire, but the fire also happens to be going up toward the heavens, or in mythology's case, mount olympus. the only problem with this theory, is that heracles became immortal

    On a more serious note, I have a theory as to who the Chariot Master is. First, let's go over what we know: he went by many names; he had a master whom he would do anything for; he had comrades in arms whom he says have returned to dust; his master died; he has three vehicles of the gods; and it almost seems like he let Pit win. Out of all those things I just listed, what sounds like what would describe Pit? He looks similar to Cupid in Of Myths and Monsters, he was also called Icarus in his first adventure, and his official name is Pit. Playing through this game, you can see that he not only loves and believes the best in Lady Palutena, but he also seems to be willing to do *anything* for her, even seeming to forgive her moments where he nearly DIES. His soldiers, the Centurians,-- whom Pit was very against being dragged into his fight with the Aurum-- seem to be more like brothers rather than soldiers to Pit. They also are turned to stone in his first adventure. As anyone knows, with a statue, all you need is enough time, and they'll be dust. Pit also really likes using the vehicles of the gods, and if he could, he would probably keep them somewhere. And for everyone who doesn't know, Nintendo has a tendency to bring time travel into their games and with something like the Lightning Chariot going through space, time travel could definitely be possible. Now to get to the actual theory: the Chariot Master is a possible future outcome of who Pit could have become. I already made connections to the two characters, now I will elaborate on the theory itself. I say "possible outcome" because of the events after retrieving the Lightning Chariot. After defeating the Chaos Kin at the end of Chapter 20, he uses a scorpion-like tail and rips Palutena's soul out to later consume it. This Chariot Master most likely met with the terrible fate of failing to save her soul in time. Now for the holes in this theory: "If the Chariot master was Pit, how did he get the Chariot?" Who's to say that there was a Chariot Master during the first Pit's time around. "If this theory was proven true, then the Chariot Master's line of 'I have no regrets' makes no sense since he should regret not saving his master in the first place." Actually, it still does. Not only does he leave his now decayed shell, knowing his successor was strong, but he also got to see how strong his time-remnant self truly is, renewing his confidence that his future could be prevented from becoming Pit's. This would explain why the tower was so tall, its design, and why Viridi couldn't land Pit closer to the top. At some point, the Chariot Master had "mastered" something similar to what Pyhron used to keep Palutena from pulling Pit out of the battle, but this interference, rather than stopping a god from pulling anything out of there, prevents any god-like force from sending in any living organism or divine being from being sent to the top. He wanted to see if Pit could endure his trial. But hey, it's just a theory, a GAME THEORY!!! Thanks for reading! So what do you think? Do you think it's possible, or is there anything else I'm missing?

    Chuggaa's theory holds tons of weight to it. In addition to what Chuggaa stated, Palutena mentioned the "lifespan of the gods" earlier in the game. Not to mention that beings that live for thousands of years would seem immortal to people who are lucky to live anywhere close to 100 years. Also, there's the fact that Kid Icarus has traditional Greek gods like Poseidon an Hades as well as invented gods such Virdi: Goddess of Nature, yet Greek mythology had a Goddess of Nature, Mother Geae, who was born before the gods were.

    Just from my own admittedly rusty memory, it seems the Chariot Master is more a reference to Apollo. The Lightning Chariot itself seems to be a reference to the chariot of fire that Apollo would drive through the sky, and was the Greek Myth of how the sun moved across the sky, even going so far as to blame the shorter hours of daylight during some seasons on Apollo's sleeping habits. In addition to being the god of the sun and prophecy, he was also seen as the god of plague, with a direct involvement in the Trojan war, firing arrows inflicted with the plague on his enemies, which could be a reference to the Chariot Master's warrior lineage. However, his connection to Zeus, and how the major Greek pantheon (with the exception of Hades and Posiden) seem to be largely absent could still be transferred to Apollo, as he too was a son of Zeus. (There are few Greek gods or legends that don't have a direct line to Zeus in that way.)
    Another note, the Lightning Chariot Base could also be seen as an analogue for Olympus. While there is indeed a physical Mount Olympus, the actual seat of the gods was depicted as a place removed from the physical realm, and had all the facilities needed to entertain the gods. It would not be at all out of the realm of possibility that there would be some godly equivalent of a chariot race track at Olympus, and the tower itself could be seen as the mountain needed to climb to get to the seat of the gods.

      It's possible. But Apollo is a god so wouldn't he be immortal?

    • @temporalwolf7054
      @temporalwolf7054 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That depends on how the gods function in Kid Icarus. I've seen a lot of interpretations of gods where the gods demand worship not because they're egotistical, but rather because they require the worship to survive, and others where simply being remembered in order to exist. If that were the case, it's possible for the gods to have just wasted away as they got forgotten.
      Then again, the Greek gods were very human in nature. They were ageless, yes, but aside from that, they could be wounded, poisoned, get sick, etc. It's very possible the gods could've died off due to war, sabotage, or the like. Heck, Hades might have had a hand in that even.

      Cody Ward it is more likley to be perseus as he was technically came back from the dead when he went to the underworld and is a genral and a master of using peguses and chariots while apollo is not a god known for fighting only his diciples at troy were so it would not suite the chariot master being him as he is not as higned on grudges as apollo and magnus must be achellis as he is the greatest human warrior like magnus is described as in chapter two. Another reason why he is proberly perseus is that he has a death while he is happy about passing his chariot to his son like how he passes it to pit in the scene after the battle and perseus did have a patron god of nike which cou;d show his faliure to his master as nike is the goddes of victory

      I knew that it was unlikely that Mr. Nimoy would still be here by the time KHIII came out, that's why I made that proposal. Two other voice actors who I think are worthy are Frank Welker and Robert Englund. Welker could handle him the way he handled Megatron in TF Prime and Englund would just have to do a more sophisticated version of his Freddy voice, which I'm confident he can since he was classically trained.

Hades wanted the Lighting Chariot to get revenge on him. Hades was his master who he lost. The Chariot Master's tower was a base for the Underworld forces, which would explain why stuff in the tower doesn't affect them.
    When he lost his master, Hades, he says he wants to 'erase him from existence'. Hades doesn't realize who he is anymore.

    I think that the Chariot Master is Patroclus, Achilles' servant in the Iliad. Achilles had these two horses that only Patroclus was able to control, and just about all that the Chariot Master says lines up with the story of Patroclus, except for the fact that his master Achilles actually outlived him, if only by a bit.

    I actually feel the Chariot Master being Heracles (or Chiron as other comments have mentioned) does very much make sense in the context of mythology. I think it's entirely possible that Kid Icarus: Uprising takes place after the Fall of Zeus. Zeus may not be "dead" so to speak, but is just.. indisposed. Tucked away somewhere as punishment after his fall, much like his father Cronus and grandfather Ouranus before him.
    This idea is further supported by the fact that while we see no mention of Zeus in the entire game, we do see both his brothers. Poseidon helps Palutena and Pit by splitting the sea to grant them access to fight Thanatos, and of course Hades is the main villain. But Poseidon seems to have no life in him, and Hades is completely unhinged. It's possible that while they weren't punished themselves, the fall of their brother's empire has dealt significant damage to their psyches.
    This could also account for why the series has "made up" gods, as it hasn't been uncommon for the Greeks to have had multiple gods to represent the same idea with Helios, Apollo and Phaethon all being gods that represent the sun, Selene and Artemis both representing the moon, Persephone being basically a clone of Demeter until she got freaky with Hades... It's possible Palutena and Viridi are not stand-ins for Athena and Gaea... but their descendants. Newer gods to take the mantles after the older ones had "fallen".

      It wouldn't be that far of a stretch since Emile has actually referenced Game Theory at one point and they have a 2nd-degree connection through Jirard the Completionist. Jirard guest-starred in Emile's Pikmin 3 LP on a Mission, and both MatPat and Jirard have shared a couple of collabs. So, it's not out of the question that Emile might be a guest on Game Theory for a video on Kid Icarus, or maybe Xenoblade Chronicles.

    I believe the Chariot master is actually Thor. One, Thor is very Offensive based, to take that little quip for him/Hades. two, Thor is the Lightning god of the Norse pantheon, he HAS a magic chariot pulled by two goats in mythology, his father, Odin is also his Master, his outfit is very Norse looking by popular standards, and he has thousands of comrades in the warrior that were brought to Valhalla after they died. plus, his note to Viridi where he dodged the question that he was a god or not? TOTALLY A GOD! what do you guys and gals think of my theory?

    • @CelestialCookie
      @CelestialCookie 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thor is from NORSE mythology. Kid Icarus is based on GREEK (and Roman) mythology. Yes, the three sacred treasures are Japanese, but the game was made by Japan.

    • @SamaelKraus
      @SamaelKraus 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @SamaelKraus
      @SamaelKraus 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also did state that he was from Norse, and could have just been a nod to the mythos in general. it is MOSTLY Greek mythology, but if it was Zeus, or Hercules, that wouldn't be bad, just that my theory was wrong.

    Here’s a tidbit corroborating Emile’s theory from several years after this has ended. Heracles did in fact have a master. He sold himself into slavery as penance for killing the prince of a land that falsely accused him of stealing their cattle, his master being the queen of the Amazons at the time, which if I remember was Hippolyta.

  • @OtakuFreakSaph
    @OtakuFreakSaph 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The part that throws all of this into a form of whack on the identity of the chariot master is his clothing, mannerisms, and the fact his name is never spoken. He could be a number of gods. He could be a fallen Apollo who Pyron defeated in battle to steal his powers, like he was trying to do with the Aurum. He could be Thor or Heracles. He might even be a titan who followed Chronos before the reckoning of the other gods. I don't have an idea myself, but I do have an idea on why he can't explain his godliness and seems to burn away after being defeated. It's been referenced a lot in pop culture, mostly pulling from the recent Clash of the Titans, but it's stated that if a god loses all of his followers and is not worshipped, he stops being a god. It's fully reasonable that The Chariot Master is a god of old who the people have abandoned, and was sustained only by the wishes of his "master" to continue driving the chariot. It's only speculation, of course.

    Couple things that back up your Heracles theory is that Heracles was immortalized in the skies as a constellation, and the lightning chariot travels across the universe, through the cosmos, hence the connection there. Also, in that image of the Chariot Master, you could see he was wearing a hide of some form, and Heracles wore, in the myths, the impenetrable hide of the Nemean Lion. I agree with your theory, chugga.
