  • We chat to a young credit card scammer who has been ‘’deetsing’’ - buying account details online to purchase whatever he wants without the account holder's knowledge or consent.
Teenagers as young as 13 are learning how to commit online fraud at school and say they are targeting the rich. Some are using profits to feed their families as they don’t see any prospect in regular minimum-wage jobs.
Others use the money to buy anything from iPhones to flights, holidays, fancy restaurant dinners, clothes and food deliveries.
VICE chats to a young fraudster who has acquired funds from account details he found online, in order to buy everything he wants. If caught, fraudsters can face hefty fines and prison sentences of up to 5 years.

It reminds me of a current shift where more people are starting to think “the ends justify the means” or “it’s okay when I DO IT!” I’ve seen the TH-camr Ethan Klein have this attitude about doxxing and harassing people.
If you’re interested, the novel “Demons” by Fyodor Dostoyevsky has some very interesting counter-arguments to the idea that the ends justify the means.

I was a victim of such a teenager (quite literally was a teenager). I’m a small business but I trade high value items… I didn’t have an experience with this type of fraud before, and shipped the order as usual, which was delivered signed etc… just to get a credit card chargeback from a real owner of a credit card used for this purchase. The bank had reversed the transaction and I was left without goods and without money. My business is so small, I rely on one sale per month at times and it was very hard for me to pay my rent that month. I just want any person who reads that and contemplates on a similar scheme: LEAVE SMALL BUSINESSES OUT OF IT!!! We don’t deserve it at all!!!

This is "carding" going by a new name. This has been around for as long as online purchases have been a thing. When I first became aware of it in the early/mid 90s, you could get lists of cards and card generators from AOL chat rooms and warez sites. Back then, banks and websites hadn't caught up to the security aspect of it yet so there weren't things like the 3 digit code on the back, security questions, or even SSL. If you had the card number and expiration date, that's all you needed. And card companies used simple algorithms to generate numbers. So, people wrote programs to generate their own card numbers and exps and you could just try them until you found a combination that worked. It's not hacking. It's just theft. And these kids are just the next in a long line of thieves stretching back to the 80s or even 70s.

    • @mikea5745

This is using bank cards instead of credit cards. In the US nearly all bank cards still go through a credit card company (usually as debit cards), so a lot of Americans don't think of them as different. The biggest difference with using bank cards is the lower level of fraud protection. Banks can just leave the customer to pay the bill, so they don't care as much as a credit card company

I agree, it isn't that simple. I've worked in fraud prevention and can assure that the monies are not returned every time. And when they are, a suspicious activity report has to be filed to local authorities and you can lose your account with that financial institution even if you're the victim. It's not a victimless crime. This video is just promoting fraud which can have life altering impacts to it's victims

@@HMuny55 do you actually think he hasn't tried to get by the clean way? The economy is going downhill very fast ,and it's getting insanely hard to live, even in subhuman conditions. Of course he's tried to make it by through a real job,but if he's moved to this it obviously didn't work out for him. Also that's the dumbest fucking argument I've ever heard,if Mexicans are systemically and economically oppressed, why are they (literally) dying to get into North America?
      It's obvious.
Because they come from an even worse country, and there's centuries of false advertising around the (fake) American dream. The same applies to Africans in relation to England.
In the discussion or racial economic disparity, you,a privileged white suburbanite is completely ignorant to the perspective of those who are in economic peril due to their race, and have no right to shut any minority down for speaking out about these problems. Cease communication immediately.
