      It reminds me of a current shift where more people are starting to think “the ends justify the means” or “it’s okay when I DO IT!” I’ve seen the TH-camr Ethan Klein have this attitude about doxxing and harassing people.
      If you’re interested, the novel “Demons” by Fyodor Dostoyevsky has some very interesting counter-arguments to the idea that the ends justify the means.

    Stealing from the poor and working class isn't taken very seriously by the legal system. When police take reports from poor people or the working class that are victims, often no investigation is ever initiated. Stealing from the rich however, that will get you some real time.

    This is "carding" going by a new name. This has been around for as long as online purchases have been a thing. When I first became aware of it in the early/mid 90s, you could get lists of cards and card generators from AOL chat rooms and warez sites. Back then, banks and websites hadn't caught up to the security aspect of it yet so there weren't things like the 3 digit code on the back, security questions, or even SSL. If you had the card number and expiration date, that's all you needed. And card companies used simple algorithms to generate numbers. So, people wrote programs to generate their own card numbers and exps and you could just try them until you found a combination that worked. It's not hacking. It's just theft. And these kids are just the next in a long line of thieves stretching back to the 80s or even 70s.

    • @mikea5745

      This is using bank cards instead of credit cards. In the US nearly all bank cards still go through a credit card company (usually as debit cards), so a lot of Americans don't think of them as different. The biggest difference with using bank cards is the lower level of fraud protection. Banks can just leave the customer to pay the bill, so they don't care as much as a credit card company

    • @xliquidflames
      @xliquidflames 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    I was a victim of such a teenager (quite literally was a teenager). I’m a small business but I trade high value items… I didn’t have an experience with this type of fraud before, and shipped the order as usual, which was delivered signed etc… just to get a credit card chargeback from a real owner of a credit card used for this purchase. The bank had reversed the transaction and I was left without goods and without money. My business is so small, I rely on one sale per month at times and it was very hard for me to pay my rent that month. I just want any person who reads that and contemplates on a similar scheme: LEAVE SMALL BUSINESSES OUT OF IT!!! We don’t deserve it at all!!!

We all want to have fulfilling lives, feel valuable and enjoy things with the people we love. It's not right that that only seems to be reserved for people who have money. That is the nature of Capitalism. To steal and take advantage of others. That is how banks operate, how businesses are able to make a profit, how resources are aquired. Everything you own was made using stolen labor and materials. Countries and cultures are built on stolen land, traditions and scientific findings. To simply live means to be complicit in theft. That’s why I believe in karma less and less as I grow older. Because if karma is genuinely merciless and without exception, then that means even the most well intentioned people on the planet would “suffer for the rest of their lives”. Karma itself would have to be sentient or have a very elaborate algorithm to be able to tell apart those who are willingly stealing and those who are unknowingly benefiting from theft. But then that sounds a lot like a God, which I refuse to base my morals off of.
      Until we change our current economic system, theft in every form will prosper.
