I’ve been noticing some of my previous Ford ranger videos have been getting more views and comments lately, so I figured I would do a video on my few gripes of the truck. All in all this truck is fantastic and I highly recommend one! Hope you enjoy and have a great weekend! 🙌🏻
Truck looks great, just pickup 2023 in the same color no start/start salesman said they didn’t put on due to chip issue glad to hear you still like it after year and half was considering a Tacoma but there built in Mexico now the Ranger is still built in USA that made my decision..
I recently got a 2021 Ford Ranger Lariat Tremor. Low miles in almost like new condition for a reasonable price. There seem to be a lot of those hitting the used car market in this area now. So far, I LOVE it. The perfect daily, light duty truck that rides great on the road, and can go almost anywhere. And can tow 7500lbs just in case I ever need to haul anthing somewhat heavy. My max trailer load now is about 3000lb and I never tow anything that heavy. This truck pulls my small utility trailer like a dream. You literally can't tell it is even back there. Not even at 80mph, and at that speed, the expanded metal ramp sticking up on the back of the trailer is causing quite a lot of wind drag. I usually tow about 1000 - 1500lbs gross with this little trailer. But when towing it empty, I fold the ramp inward and bungee it down to eliminate the wind drag, and it makes a HUGE difference in mph at highway speed vs. it up when towing with my GF's Subaru. It would easily make a 5 or 6mpg difference on that car. On the Ranger, I average about 16.9-17.6 towing this trailer loaded, with the ramp up catching wind. I haven't tried it empty with the ramp folded down yet. But towing it with the truck vs the Subaru is a night and day difference. This truck pulls it so effortlessly as it is such a small load. It handles well, soaks up pot holes, bumps, etc. on less than perfect roads like they aren't even there. Tows great, has great A/C. I love everything about it except for the Audio system. It has the upgraded B&O 10 speaker system, but its performance is somewhat meh. Know this when I bought it though. Its good enough, and the rest of the truck is exactly what I was looking for.
I have quite literally this exact truck, and bought it two months ago. 2022 XLT Sport, Cactus Grey. Love it, and just put Bilstein 5100s on the rear and man did help the rear end wallowing. Even came with auto start stop delete; thanks chip shortage! Interestingly it came with Bridgestone Dueller A/Ts stock.
I got the FX package on my 2020 (covid prices yay!) and the fox shocks are stellar. I put Grabber ATXs on it when the stock tires wore and what a combo.
Smart idea on the light in the back for auto start stop... One thing I do is I've made it a habit to turn it off when I first take off. Another thing you can BARELY put your foot on the brake, once you put almost full pressure on the brake auto start stop will engage. If you barely put your foot on the brake , just enough to stop it won't engage. I know it's annoying. But honestly. I still use auto start stop at times. Some red lights around here will last a while and when I know I'll be there for a minute or two I'll go ahead and let it shut off. If you notice on your digital mpg , idling KILLS your mpg. And once you let it idle for too long on the tank of gas there's no getting good mpg. I have a 2020 ranger with 26k miles and I have been through some issues I could go ahead and warn you about... My ranger broke down on me a few months back because there was 'water' in the spark plug hole and shorted out a coil pack. This is a known issue with these because water gets on top of the engine when it rains or I'd say if you're off roading heavily in mud. The water sits on top of the engine then seeps into the sparkplug holes. The fix is the engine cover that the rangers used to come with (not sure if yours has it or not bad I thought I read 2021+ years they discontinued the cover for them) How water got on my engine was the way I was parking when it would rain. The front end of my truck would be facing downhill when parked. So water some how some way seeped onto the engine from the hood. When I park flat on a surface water does not enter the engine bay. Weird I know but I thought I'd warn you!! Very nice truck
I have a 2021 ranger xlt and you can unplug auto stop/start from the negative terminal on the battery does not set off any warning lights at all, it's the little black plug with inline fuse.
I have basically the same truck I bought new, a 2021 Ford Ranger (Cactus Gray) Lariat FX4. It came with Hankook tires on it. That was the first thing I changed. I went with an AT one size larger and added a 1" spacer to get it away from the knuckle. Secondly, I put a leveling kit on mine too. Before I made any changes though, I made sure to park it in my garage and mark where the headlights hit on the inside of the garage door. Afterwards, I readjusted the lights back to that level. I've made a few more minor modifications but I'm like you. I like the truck.
I did the same thing when I lifted mine in the front as well, I couldn't stand the rake it's very aggressive from factory, I think I had to lower my headlights about 6" at 25 yards to get them where they used to be.
Doing the level check before you do anything is ok as long as the headlights are still the same height off the ground when you readjust them after making suspension changes. If the headlights are higher or lower, adjusting the headlights to the before marks will not work as intended.
@@SALTxTHExWOUND You still driving your Ranger? Mine just turned 11,000 miles. Don't put too many miles on it, obviously. Other improvements I made: added a tailgate damper, (2) got a matching wheel off eBay and mounted a matching tire (Nitto Ridge Grappler 265/70 R18) as a spare. Anything other changes made to yours?
I have a 21 STX special edition FX4. I don’t have the AC outlet in mine so the auto shut off hack doesn’t work. I did do the same as you did and got the Ford level kit installed and put 265 65 r18 BFG ko2s on it. I tow about 4k lbs and get about 1.5” of squat but the extra clearance is great off road.
That’s not bad for 4K lbs though! I’ve thought about upgrading the bumpers or doing air bags to really level it under load. Also you should look into the battery trick for the auto start shut off, I think it’s just an extra wire that’s hooked up to the battery that you unplug
I don't have the outlet either on my 2020. 3 things I do is I made it a habit to turn it off as soon as I drive it. Another trick is, and you may know this, but u can barely put ur foot on the brake when at a stop , it won't engage. But when you put more than a quarter of brake pressure then it'll engage. If u just push the brake in enough to stop and not roll forward it won't engage. Another thing is sometimes I turn it on when i know the red light will be a while. It saves mpg tremendously . Plus all the parts that has anything to do with auto start stop has a higher quality and more rugged materies so it will last. @fordbossme and @beardedfordtech and @powerstroketechtalk are really good channels for Ford's Hopefully this helps
Just purchased a used 2021 ranger in cactus grey with low miles here on Maui and your videos have been super helpful. Looking forward to seeing how I like this truck vs my Toyota. Great tip with the nightlight for stop and start at lights
Congrats! I’ve got 32k on mine and absolutely love it! I get roughly 21-22mpg commuting and 13mpg towing a 3,500lb trailer. This truck has proven itself 😁👍🏻
Love My 2019 Lariat, No problems , Lifted front 4.5 inches , 2" in rear and 32's on it...Fox coil overs in front with bds upper control arms. No noise with the general grabbers at/x . great tires.
The industry wide shutoff shenanigans are ridiculous. Just going to wear out the starter that much quicker. Ford makes a solid product. As long as long term reliability works out, the Ranger is aces! 👍👌🤸🏼♀️ ❤❤❤
Agreed. It’s just about every vehicle now has the auto shutoff, it annoyed the heck out of me for a couple of weeks. Yeah my last ranger a 2001 had over 230k on it when I sold it. Great trucks for sure
Pulling the plug at the battery for eliminating the auto start-stop does nothing to the truck, I was told to plug it in if you intend to tow otherwise zero issues. 3 yrs unplugged and counting.
Another option for the start/stop, is to have it in any other driving mode and it renders start/stop nonoperational. What I like to do is put my Ranger in tow mode around town. This way it is not searching or changing gears as often. Gives me more control. Holds the gears a little longer. Really no different than sport mode on other vehicles.
Good video. I too hate that start/stop thing, now it's just by habit that I turn it off as soon as I start the truck. I am going to try that night light idea tomorrow, simple fix to a pain in the ass problem. Where did you get those Ranger decals on the rear? They look awesome.
Yeah that was honestly my biggest gripe about the truck, the night light lasted a little over a year so I bought another one haha And my wife got the ranger decal for me off of Etsy, I think there’s a bunch of people making them on there.

The brakes are great honestly, the ONLY issue I had when I first bought the truck is that when you think you're completely stopped you have to press your foot down a decent amount or the truck will BARELY creep forward, something I got used to
I got the Wildpeak AT3W too. Pretty happy with them. They are made in Thailand and are surprisingly cheap there. Only $100 for the 275/70/17, I got 5 and a 5th rim so that my spare can be rotated in with the other 4.

@@SALTxTHExWOUND I totally get it, when my wife and I first started off I was driving a 1984 Corvette and this is in 1999. Over the years I can assure you as long as you both work you’ll amass far more than enough to buy whatever toys you want and if you stay away from any bad habits, you’ll obtain that goal much quicker. I don’t know if you guys own or if you’re renting, but whenever you’re able to buy I would urge you to do so and that way you’re paying off your own mortgage instead of somebody else’s. Yeah i bought one and wanted to do all the mods you did to yours is the only reason i say that no one else has videos on how to put together what you did
Every time you come to a complete stop. It’s called auto start/stop and it’s on almost every new vehicle these days. I’ll never get used to it so I bypassed it

@@SALTxTHExWOUND not to mention the stress and operation cycles you put on the starter / flywheel
@@SALTxTHExWOUND As a matter of fact . In that features honor im going to go for a drive and get 14mpg in my f250 4x4 haha
It’s doesn’t affect the battery
Your so original in content
I love my 2021 FX4 Ranger 👍
for auto start stop but put it in sport lol
What r ur monthly payments on that?
Shoot me a DM on Instagram and I’ll break it down for you 👍🏻
The worst thing is that it's not a late 80's ranger.🤔🤨
Auto stop is the Bain of modern ICE vehicles.
Agreed
I think killer Miller needs a brand new TRX for Christmas this year, her horse told me she would love it.
PS or a brand new Ford F350 Limited, either one will do
Haha idk about all that but I do know she says she wants a raptor one day. Maybe when gas isn’t $4/gallon 😅😂
@@SALTxTHExWOUND just look at it this way, when you’re able to afford the raptor are, you won’t have to worry about gas prices more likely than not. I was checking out the new orange one on 37s and it’s pretty sweet
@@metallica2500 haha isn’t that the truth, we could easily afford a raptor… if we didn’t have 4 bikes, horses, boat, etc. 😂
If you already have a house one piece of advice I can give you and it’s something my wife and I did was we played Monopoly we started off in a tiny little house it was only $120,000 and now our house is 640,000 and 4800 ft.² and there is an a toy out there that I don’t possess, my obsession is off-road and boats and my wife’s obsession is her three quarter horses and she literally treats them better than most people treat their own children, trust me our bank account shows it
never ever go to the dealer for work lol you will pay out the ass just to get any work done
That auto shut off is kinda annoying
Super annoying. Do you have it on your new F150?
@@SALTxTHExWOUND yes
Not a fan of it
I love my 2021 Ranger BUT The paintjob is shit. It's already chipped and scratched up all over the place. Carpet, Also shit. I have weathertechs but forget about getting any kind of dog hair, pine needles out of any exposed carpet.
Fully agree, my hood paint chipped before selling it and the carpet was the same deal. Weathertech definitely was better
Your evil for selling the klx300sm
well that's not nice lol
Yeah i bought one and wanted to do all the mods you did to yours is the only reason i say that no one else has videos on how to put together what you did
I'm confused the truck used to just shut off when u would stop at a light? How often?
Every time you come to a complete stop. It’s called auto start/stop and it’s on almost every new vehicle these days. I’ll never get used to it so I bypassed it
My 2021 ford ranger sucks I wish I never purchased the piece of crap
Trolls live under bridges. How's the weather under there?
