These guys are an example of why these games are so important. 40 something year olds and still gushing about the games they played as teens, and with such positive energy. This is what gaming should be about: creating positive experiences that spread joy.
We miss you more than you think Rob. Hope to see you in more videos. You are a huge part of why I love this channel so much. Nothing beats the chemistry you and Johnny have. 🙏🏼
this video was really special for me, thanks for uploading guys. Hearing your passion for games and talking about moving on and life changes was incredible, really special to hear!
For someone who’s only 21 (18 at the time of this video) these videos are why I love your channel so much Johnny. They’re a glimpse into a world I can only dream of, and because of that, they’re truly special to me
It’s good to see friendship that’s lasted through the years. I can count mine on 1 hand. I had friends like this before I moved as a kid. I wish I knew these guys growing up lol.
I played Grandia for the first time a couple years back and it quickly became one of my all-time favorite JRPGs. I'm 25 now and can't wait to see what other awesome games will have come out by the time I'm 40!
Those memories episodes are so damn good, this is really the heart of this channel. Love getting context on when a game was played, Johnny's situation as he played the game made for a parallel that is so interesting. This is the type of gaming memories that truly represent what video games are about. Can't wait for that anime expo 2000 documentary! I can't believe you have footage of this, lol. That's awesome. Such a different era for anime fandom
Sold this classic years ago when my kids were born. Thanks for the nostalgia and now that our family is a bit better off, I think it's time to pick it up again! Much love from Wakefield, West Yorks.
Ha! I love seeing people so local on here, I was in wakey last night. I l live in Otley near Leeds. I think Johnny is actually from around your neck of the woods, originally.
I hope you've played Suikoden 2 and Star Ocean 2! Along with Grandia I'd argue they're the best JRPG's on the PS1. That said, if you decide to give Star Ocean 2 a shot I'd recommend getting the PSP version (even if you have to emulate it), as it adds a lot to the game while improving existing aspects. Wild Arms is also fantastic, but it has aged really poorly and the Alter Code F remake on the PS2 is a little better anyway. Suikoden 1 is also on the PS1, but it's not a patch on the second. Also, while some of the characters from the first appear in the second, you're not really missing much as the story is only loosely connected at best. Same stands for Star Ocean 1 on both counts, although that started life on the snes.
Yeah you guys are spot on. Back in the day, most mainstream customers didn’t know that the games they loved were made in Japan. They would have had no patience for subtitles.
I bought Grandia HD Collection on Switch on release day. It's my first time playing it and I am loving it so far. I regret sleeping on this series for so long. Also, when you mention beating the game while surrounded by moving boxes getting emotional, it's such a vivid image you project. I seriously think you should adapt some of your memories into live action productions.
Glad you're liking the game! I played the second grandia probably 11 years ago on ps2 lol. Been loving the first one a lot though. The graphics, music, and tone of it really get you for some reason
Playing Grandia HD right now on my Switch. So glad I got to it after all these years, and this is such a special video of yours. So many cool not so old man tales :)
I've never seen Rob with glasses and no ear rings! He looks like a professor! It would be awesome to see you three + Andrew make a trip to Japan and visit all those amazing gaming shops.
You guys are great! I had a smile on my face the whole time watching. Just going back in time for the games we love, its amazing to me how video games almost made our friendships stronger because it connected together that much more. You can go back in time and share a moment with your friends that others will never experience. its really powerful and special when you think about it, how video games can bring friends together, family too, it was one of the few things i did with my dad where we connected. I never played Grandia, i did play part 2 on dreamcast, just something about the box are looked so cool and drew me in.
Wait, this video was posted 9 hours ago? wow, that timing is something else. Ive been going through grandia related content for the past 2 days since the series has been on my mind.
ROOOOOOOB!!! 10:08 Dracula Battle 1 & 2 are amazing albums, both are still among some of my favorite arrange soundtracks to this day This video was fucking fantastic btw, the energy and passion is infectious, a perfect example of why this channel is so special and pretty much in a league of its own
I had a tingling in my pants when I seen this lol. Absolutely loved grandia 2 on dreamcast. I had to go back and play this one. Haven't finished it but it's also great
Always nice to see Rob on the channel! Grandia is definitely on my videogame "bucket list", but with so many things in my backlog and new releases, I think my first playthough of Grandia may have to wait until the 20th Anniversary.
Love these style of videos, reminiscing with friends is the best . Bought Grandia earlier this year never got past the fist bit of the game ! Like just after the museum director asks you to go to the ruins. I just might make time now to give this game a go
I remembered the Grandia morning theme played when Justin's about to leave from his town early in the morning.. that was so touching and so memorable...
Best video in a long time Johnny, and yes Rob is back and satan, all 3 in one video that´s a jackpot :) Johnny u are at your absolute best when just sitting and talking memories and a game with old friends, great video, thank u for 27 minutes of joy and remembering Grandia myself.
I don't believe I ever heard of Grandia until this video, and I watched the whole thing because I love the HCG Show! Awesome stuff, guys. Super cool when friends can look back on nostalgic memories, and chat about them. Thanks for the video! P.s. Excited for that documentary!!!!
Indeed time does fly by. You look good Johnny! I'm 11 years younger and I still feel like I'm feeling my age but still have my fond memories and experiences that I still continue to have. Thank you for these vids.
Man this is the best video specially for us who played the game on release day you guys done well to share your memories it’s like you said what we all wanted to say great video happy console gamers that’s why your my favorite channel
Possibly on of my favorite JRPGs with one of the most battle mechanics. The first game sparked my love for JRPGs and the second game for the Dreamcast/PS2 solidified it.
Came to watch this since the hd collection just came out and saw your review for it. Man, I'm 25 (about to be 26 in a few weeks) and I love this entire series so much. I hope the hype around the collection will bring people back in, and also bring new fans :) everyone deserves to play it, see how wonderful it is, and feel the amount of passion that was put into it. Love seeing rob btw! And somehow I think this is the first time I've seen Satan in a video. Would love to see you guys all get together again and talk for hours, without editing the video lol. Can only imagine some of the other jokes you all made before the edits
Hard to believe it’s been 18 years already! I remember playing the demo from the PS1 magazine when I was 8 years old. The only RPG I’ve ever played then was Pokemon Red/Blue, but I loved the demo enough to get it for Christmas that year. One of the BEST JRPGS I’ve ever played. Loved seeing you guys talk about your memories with the game. Made me feel nostalgic as well :’)
dark haze I was the same age when I had the demo, had no idea what was going on but I was stuck to it for awhile. I never seen it in the store and we did not have a lot of money back then and I also forgot the name of the game. Last week I watched the top ten best ps1 games and Grandia was listed so the next day I special order off amazon to be shipped in two day and in just four days I put over 32 hours on it straight. The part where sue left the party got me and was sad to watch and almost made a second save. It was a good game and old school too. I almost kicked myself because I forgot the name of it.
I do love a good JRPG. I playing through Dragon Quest VIII on the 3DS right now and sounds like you convinced me to pick up this game next. Also love the videos.
Grandia, best combat system i've ever seen, remember picking it up from a bargain bin at a local store 15 or so years ago without knowing what it was and being completely blown away.
I'm watching this in 2020 while playing Grandia for the first time with original equipment. I'm about 3/4 of the way through it an it is such a masterpiece. Cheers guys!
Fun to hear your stories guys. I was one of those dudes who wanted this game desperately for the US Saturn. Yeah. those changes make you stronger and I was tossed into the jungle after gaming intensely at my parents house bitd, but then it was time to move out. Very scary times lol. At least I got to play Grandia 2 on the Dreamcast and was very enjoyable as well.
I was 7 or 8 when the demo came out and loved it ever sense. I forgot the name of it and after watching a top ten list for ps1 I got it that day. Worth every penny when I ordered it.
i'm so happy someone appreciates this game as much as i do. i say this because i feel like it's still so underappreciated and only a few friends of mine know about it.
When I ordered the game I had a dentist appointment that day and missed the mail man. With my mouth being numb I drove to the post office and picked it up. No regrets and glad I got the game!
I still hang with my two game friends from my child hood. We started playing together around super nintendo time. We just last week beat cuphead. So glad that we still hang out. We all live with in 15 mins of each other
I have so many memories of playing Grandia on PS1 when it released; I got it a few weeks after my birthday and the Fall of 1999 was something special; playing Grandia, various other games like Blue Stinger, Final Fantasy VIII, Sonic Adventure, Resident Evil 3, and also watching Dragon Ball Z because it was huge at that point.
Giga Force I played the demo at the time and I wish I would have gotten it then but we did not have the money as a kid, but..I remembered the name of the game and special ordered it. It was worth it!
Hi John. I'm young enough that you could be my dad. And I just have to say I love your videos and I always take your recommendations very seriously. I just bought Grandia on PS1 and I can't wait to try it out. Thanks for all your awesome videos. :D
I enjoy hearing your stories and how you guys get so excited talking about them. I would love to be your age in the future and reminisce about anime stuff with my friends. We grew up during the anime boom, when Cardcaptor Sakura and Yu-gi-oh and Digimon were shown on Saturday mornings, and later during the Limewire era, when we "only" had to wait 10 minutes to download a song 😅
Great vid, guys! I also played Grandia in similar conditions to you, so it definitely feels nostalgic. I had bought my copy for a ludicrous price at a Japanese import shop in France, just when I was leaving home for Uni. As much as love the FF series, and although FFVII came out at about that time, none can really replace this coming-of-age Odyssey for me. Now, I can just hope that some good willed angel-winged deities decide to port that on the Switch and I can die happy :)
Grandia is probably my favourite game. I replay it at least once a year, I actually wasn't keen on it at first. I was in my mid teens at the time and was going through a bit of a phase where I assumed anything even remotely childish was stupid. Luckily for me, I was also rarely able to buy games as I didn't have a lot of money, so I stuck it out for longer than I might have otherwise. I absolutely fell in love with Grandia, with the characters and the world. I felt like I genuinely was on a grand adventure with Justin and friends. I remember the event with Sue and the portal, and being more moved by it than I was by the famous death of Aeris in FF7. I remember the growing fondness for Feena, and the work and sacrifice of everyone who helps you on the journey, even those who at first seemed to be enemies. The music is so up beat in the game you can't help but smile, and I stand by my opinion that the battle/leveling system is the best of any TB systems I've encountered. I feel that Game Arts made a mistake with the later games, I think they should have continued in the same world with the sequels much the way the Legendary Heroes series works. It's worth noting, that if you rip your copy of Grandia to the PC and emulate it, there's actually a fan patch out there which makes it more difficult. I personally find it to be a must, one of my very few gripes is that the game is on the easy side, which is a shame considering the leveling system sort of promotes a little bit of grinding if you want to see all the spells and abilities.
Epic video!!! And Grandia!! My big brother used to play this alongside FF7 and what a moment i had with him! Brings back memories watching this. And 18 years.....Time sure flies
Grandia 1&2 are two of my favourite RPGs of all time. I just downloaded the games on the switch. Rob, Satan and of course, Johnny make a nice and entertaining trio. What a name, Satan, lol! Keep up the good work, happy console Gamer!
I wish we could have a Story Time With Rob, Johnny and friends like once a month that's like 30 minutes to an hour. I could listen to you guys talk for hours and be entertained.
Troll, Troll 2, Puppetmaster series by Full Moon Entertainment, Tail Sting, The Video Dead, CHUD 2: Bud the CHUD, Killer Klownz from Outer Space, Big Meat Eater,
RobManWorld I've only seen one of those, Troll 2, and we got to see that at a special midnight screening. It's so much fun to watch bad movies with like-minded people. Thanks for the list, Rob!
RobManWorld OMG Killer Klowns From Outer Space😂😂😂😂😂. I remember watching it when Svengoolie showed it (Svengoolie is a horror movie host in Chicago and they air his show all over America on Me TV. Imagine Mystery Science Theater 3000 he's similar to that) once. Boy it was shitty but good kind of shitty😂😂😂😂😂. It's so bad it's funny.
0:09 is sooo cool it got sucked into a black hole for a few seconds.....
Satan is a lot cooler than his nickname implies ha.
These guys are an example of why these games are so important. 40 something year olds and still gushing about the games they played as teens, and with such positive energy. This is what gaming should be about: creating positive experiences that spread joy.
videos of this style are what make happyconsolegamer great! love hearing the stories
HELL YEAH THESE ARE THE BEST!
I think this might be the most fun I've ever seen three friends have on a TH-cam video, ever. Makes me miss my old friends. Well done!
Rob's story about moving to a small town whose main industry had long since died made it worth watching the entire video on it's own..

Those are the best friends to have! Those that stick around!
I played Grandia for the first time a couple years back and it quickly became one of my all-time favorite JRPGs.

Conversations like this really bring me back. Those sure were the days weren’t they
Good game. I'm 19 and you guys got me into PS1 rpgs. Including this one last summer. I'm thankful for your channel :D
mcvzs welcome to the awesome world of JRPG’s!!!
You are a young man with good taste.
I hope you've played Suikoden 2 and Star Ocean 2! Along with Grandia I'd argue they're the best JRPG's on the PS1. Grandia, OMG...one of the all time classic JRPGs. Everyone should play this. Thanks for the stories as always!
TheGamingShelf Taylor!! :D
Good vid as always guys! GOOD TO SEE YOU ROB!
Easily one of my favorite episodes... You can tell the fandom these guys have for the grandia game.
Picked up grandia thanks to you guys,This game is oozing charm.
14:20 "I'm dead inside" XD lol....his emotions getting unintentionally brushed over genuinely made me belly laugh
3 old men and a game, gotta love it 😁😁
I really dig having your friends in this video. Something about a group of friends gushing about an old game makes me happy
I bought Grandia HD Collection on Switch on release day. It's my first time playing it and I am loving it so far. I regret sleeping on this series for so long.

Lol... love that Rob is in this video. His Monty Python make him quirky. PLUS, this video made me re download Grandia on my PSVita... Will play!!!
So nice to see the trio back! Also, Robman glad to see you still kicking! We MISS YOU! Grandia is great, loved the third installment on the PS2.
Thanks guys. I loved Grandia so much - sings Sandy beach of Gambo.
Grandia is an amazing J-RPG with a very light hearted story that grows on you all the way through.
You guys are great! I had a smile on my face the whole time watching. ROOOOOOOB!!!
10:08 Dracula Battle 1 & 2 are amazing albums, both are still among some of my favorite arrange soundtracks to this day
This video was fucking fantastic btw, the energy and passion is infectious, a perfect example of why this channel is so special and pretty much in a league of its own
Love the enthusiasm! Such a great period in gaming history
Omg another episode about Grandia!! My all time favorite RPG... I love you guys
I had a tingling in my pants when I seen this lol. Absolutely loved grandia 2 on dreamcast. I had to go back and play this one. Haven't finished it but it's also great

I remember playing Grandia back in the day! Such a fantastic game and I have so many fond memories from my time with it!
LOVE Grandia. The opening theme song is a favorite of mine. I get pumped every time I hear it.
Great video man, its great to see Rob and Aaron!!
That moment a show you loved because of the nostalgia. Makes an episode that makes you feel nostalgic of the show. Whoa
Grandia!!!!! thank you for putting me onto this game, ive finally finished it and i adore it. WE NEED TO SEE THOSE OLD VIDEOS JOHNNY!!
What a great episode!
Best video in a long time Johnny, and yes Rob is back and satan, all 3 in one video that´s a jackpot :) Johnny u are at your absolute best when just sitting and talking memories and a game with old friends, great video, thank u for 27 minutes of joy and remembering Grandia myself.
The review they made about Grandia was the very video that got me watching this channel a couple of years ago.
It looks like Rob never looked at the "Hints" in the save points xD
I don't believe I ever heard of Grandia until this video, and I watched the whole thing because I love the HCG Show! Awesome stuff, guys. Super cool when friends can look back on nostalgic memories, and chat about them. Thanks for the video!
P.s. Excited for that documentary!!!!
Indeed time does fly by. You look good Johnny! I'm 11 years younger and I still feel like I'm feeling my age but still have my fond memories and experiences that I still continue to have. Thank you for these vids.
Grandia is such a great game, Justin, Feena, Sue, Gadwin party was my favorite part of the game

I do love a good JRPG. I playing through Dragon Quest VIII on the 3DS right now and sounds like you convinced me to pick up this game next.
Also love the videos.
this video made me very happy. once again, great vid!

Oh My God, I'm so glad this game is remembered! Really loved it when I was kid!
Grandia? And it's 18 years old wow XD I feel old now

Hearing people speaking so enthusiastically about some gaming~
Sweet bliss!

Hi John. I'm young enough that you could be my dad. And I just have to say I love your videos and I always take your recommendations very seriously. I just bought Grandia on PS1 and I can't wait to try it out. Thanks for all your awesome videos. :D
Grandia such a great game! Awesome video as always!!
Still waiting on that Anime Expo documentary Johnny! 😎
The Grandia series is the best of all time, everyone please help revive this series and let GungHo know we need more!
I enjoy hearing your stories and how you guys get so excited talking about them. I would love to be your age in the future and reminisce about anime stuff with my friends. Lunar Silver Star story is the jrpg that sold me.The anime cut scenes blew me away.
My Mom saw me watching this and said "I remember playing that game" and in an instant she turned into the coolest Mom ever
Love ya Rob Man, your awesome! Glad to see you back! :D
Rob looks good clean-shaved. Glad to see him in this episode.
I wish we could have a Story Time With Rob, Johnny and friends like once a month that's like 30 minutes to an hour. I could listen to you guys talk for hours and be entertained.
I’m just wondering..........why doesn’t this channel have 10 million subscribers?
feel so old...... I bought the game new. and i still listen to grandia music.
That old footage is gold! And also...let us never speak of the nightclub Ozone....EVER!
Right now in 2023, grandia is 23. An I’m replaying it now at 35😂 brought me here now bingeing vids on the weekend
Man I love Grandia. I've only played the 3rd game on PS2 but I had a seriously good time going through that game on my PS3.
These are my favorite types of videos. All these memories, man.
And Rob, I'm formally requesting a list of shitty horror movies.
Really glad to see Rob back!
Did you ever make that documentary
