- Cuba’s electrical grid went offline Friday after one of the island’s major power plants failed, the energy ministry said. The announcement came hours after the government announced that one of the nation’s main thermoelectric plants, La Antonio Guiteras, had ceased operations at about 11 a.m. local time, with authorities saying it was only offline temporarily. I have been in Central & South America many times at customer’s production facility for meeting where the power goes out for several hours. It happens when grid overloaded. Cuba is now down a power plant so supply cut by 20-60%??? You can’t fix that with previously mentioned off periods of outages.

Is it any surprise when we still have the country under a complete embargo? They’ve done remarkably well while being cut off from the world by the U.S. and our allies.
