- Here come my initial thoughts on the Altra Lone Peak 8 and some neat comparisons to the Lone Peak 7. With the Altra Timp 5 and Mont Blanc Carbon coming out in the next months, I'm busy testing the latest trail running shoes by Altra of 2024.

My LP6 got already over 1000 miles. LP 7 about 300. So my conclusion is that the durability is more than good enough. And after your review of LP 8 I'm pretty sure that's gonna be my next pair of trail running shoes. Thanks a lot for giving us your opinion and impressions 👍
I bailed on the Lone Peak series and went to the Superior. The Lone Peaks felt too squishy for me. I prefer the lower stack on the Superior. Thanks for the first impression!
Yep, superiors are awesome!
Very informative as always, TD. Looks like only very minor changes from LP7 to LP8. I love the LP7. I use them for walking in the city - I find there isn't enough cushioning in the 28mm stack for my 53-year-old legs to use them on the trails. On the trails I use the Olympus 4 mostly or the Mont Blanc for racing. And for the road, I've just bought a pair of Torin 7s, so am looking forward to trying them out.
LP only has 25 mm of cushion. Olympus is a good choice. Torin is as well for the city.
Loving the attention to detail for version 8.... :p
Completely agree about the outsole. I've been really impressed with the performance compared to the older MaxTrac outsoles. But as for durability, I'm still not sure.
I sincerely hope Altra has improved their durability issues!
Great one Tim. Big fan of the LP8 … although still feel the 5 and 6 were the best uppers.
I think I've only started to really like the LP since the 7 😅
Good review.
The upper seems more durable but I've heard some reports that they somehow removed the inside layer of material which would make them not very usable in cold weather, the only reason I got my Lone Peaks 7, And they did a pretty decent job in protecting my feet from cold, of course up to -5 Celsisus more or less, for less than that, only the Olympus Low GTX work. ..other than that, I bet they also come longer, so half a size bigger, as the 7 in which I had to add an extra insole to be able to use them, and yes, I measured the insoles and they are longer, so it's not just a "feeling " but it's a fact. The MaxTrac, even "updated "is rubbish compared to Vibram. Will skip the 8, skip the Timp 5 and will go straight for the Mont Blanc Carbon in a few months, when the price drops even more, even the introductory price dropped to 220 euros, so I'll get them when they drop to 150 😎🤣💪, cheers
I've not noticed a difference in temperature, but it has been warmer lately, so I'll need to see if I even notice.
how do you get altra to send you shoes to review?
Great confort for the toes, decent grip and efficient 25mm of stack. For me too narrow around the neck of the foot with some pain affter few kilometers. Anyone else?
Is the pain on the outside middle bone of your foot? Near the bottom?
@@stevenshorten6184 no, at the top of the arch... Thx
Try Topo
50 euro? Here in the states these go for 140!
Lol, that would be crazy. Maybe I'm didn't enunciate properly, but it's 150€ 😅
@TDMiller that makes more sense 😂 possible I didn't hear clearly 😂
