KETO is KILLING YOU!! Saying no to the Keto diet at The Crouch Ranch

  • With everyone and their mother hopping on the keto bandwagon I just needed to get this info out! My health and fitness journey started years ago . I’ve done so much research on the topic and I look forward to sharing what I’ve learned in upcoming videos . One thing I know is “dieting “ is a joke in general . Keto is not sustainable and it’s only been proven to be good for children with epilepsy not the average person . Keto is not a healthy way to eat . The damage that it can cause may be seen right away with keto flu symptoms or it might be years down the road when you discover your cholesterol is high and you have heart disease .
Eating a heavy meat filled meal everyday for most people will result in feeling sluggish and bloated . Our bodies just can’t process that much of it .
The key to long term health and feeling good is not jumping onto every fad diet that comes along but rather eating a cleaner more plant based diet . I’m including some links to articles by people with degrees after their names from places like Mayo Clinic and Harvard in case you don’t believe me .
Thanks for hanging out again with us at The Crouch Ranch!

I've been looking for " something " most of my adult life, I'm 65, disabled and though I try to get more veggies in my diet, I love my meat, I've cut bread and pasta almost out, I think my biggest problem is not being active enough, that's one reason I follow your channel, no bullshit, just facts, of course, since I'm a man, gazing at the lovely Syd is a great reason also, thanks for sharing your knowledge

Exactly ... people trying to reach Ketosis by loading up on too many fats from animal protein is the main problem here .

Can't wait for your next video about what to eat and how you stay fit. More greens is the key, it's how I lost 106 pounds back in 2005. I also take a daily liquid multivitamin along with Xtendovite for good heart health.

OK, usually I don't get into this kind of stuff but I think I have to politely disagree. There is a lot of recent research suggesting that cholesterol, blood levels, etc really can improve on keto, and it can turn around some people with diabetes. I just met a guy this weekend who has been on keto for 5 years! It has become his regular diet now. He showed me his pics. Wow, went from 400 lbs of pure roundness to a ripped stud, probably about 180 lbs, looked great and said he is in perfect health. I've been on Keto now for about 6 weeks and things are going pretty good. It took awhile for my guts to adjust but all is well now. A lot of my old gut symptoms have greatly reduced, and more energy for sure. But like all things, there are many different sides, but keep up the great work, looking good in the bikini! My abs are coming back very fast! Take care and good luck! Kapper

Some people can have success on it I’m not denying that but many average joes are jumping in the bandwagon thinking they can eat a ton of meat and animal products and simply cut carbs to reach Ketosis. You can get healthy fats from a plant based diet and get the positive results without the risk of the negative which I will talk about in another video .

My daughter did Keto for a while and tried to tell me about it but I never really understood it as anything but another diet program. I've fasted, dieted, exercised, all that stuff but I'm in a bit of a rut now and don't care. I eat what I want and get the majority of my veggie and fruit nutrients through juices. I need a reset, I know. I need to eat better and exercise, I know. Regardless what I know, I'm not changing my lifestyle until I'm motivated to do so. And the hypertension I've developed in the last ten years is not enough to motivate me either. I hope I reset before it's too late.

My wife and I have been doing Keto for that last 4 months and both have lost a little over 20lbs. We make sure to mix up our proteins between beef, pork, chicken and fish. We also eat a lot of vegetables to help balance out the meat. We did not experience any Keto Flu symptoms and as far as we know our friends have not had issues but that is not to say it doesn't happen. We just had our blood tested and our cholesterol just a bit higher than last year but we do need to be careful (mine is always high which I need to work on). Overall we feel so much better and don't experience hunger cravings like before. Every few weeks we do have a cheat day which hasn't hurt our progress. I appreciate that you have concerns for your viewers and provide good info. Keep up the good content!

I tried the Keto diet for 6 months and as you mentioned, it is good for losing weight, I lost a lot of weight, almost 34 kg but also noticed I was losing muscle, which didn't like. I was getting full with less than 1k calories a day and my pee had a very strong smell and was constipated for weeks (had diarrhea the first week and also headaches, extremely painful leg cramps and low energy due to the keto flu while my body was trying to adjust). I honestly don't like having to read labels to see if a product has added sugar or hidden carbs or if it is made with canola/vegetable oil. It works for weigh loss but it is definite not sustainable.

Remember: at least a half of plate salad and different vegetables. 1 / 4 max protein and 1/ 4 max carbonhydrate.
    And portion size in crucial.
Think about that are you using a lot of unnessesary calories. Majo, deep fried food.
Do not hurry. Take your time. You will lost weigt little by little.
More exercise does not help if you will not change your eating habits.

One thing I noticed about followers of the keto diet especially the leading youtube ones is, they are okay and promote and think the carnivore diet is healthy and good.
But the carnivore diet is basically like the Atkins diet in the protein aspect.

My only experience with keto is another TH-camr recently reviewing a new keto product. She read the ingredients off the package, and, like Syd said here, I heard high fat, high cholesterol, high sodium. I didn’t comment about it. But my personal thoughts were I may as well wash down arsenic with antifreeze, and it’s a whole lot cheaper. On the other side of this, there is a friend of mine who has been using keto, and she’s looking great lately. My general feelings about it are that I lost a bunch of weight a few years ago when my esophagus sealed up and I needed urgent surgery. I had never been lighter, but that’s not how anyone should strive to do it. I wonder if these people aren’t losing weight by making themselves sick with this unhealthy food. You go Syd.

I limit myself to 40 carbs per day. I've been an insulin diabetic for 44years. By going low carb my blood sugar has been better than ever. I do eat vegetables, just ones grown above ground except corn. I eat a lot of salad. For fruit I eat berries. I've been doing the 40 carbs per day for a little over a year and have been very stict with it. No side effects except I was getting tired. I added ginseng as a daily regiment that helps and work out daily. I haven't lost much weight but that's the side effect of insulin. I feel so much better just wish the weight would come off. Need a better work out routine but hard to do with some of the side effect of being a diabetic for so long but still trying.

Good video.. and you are right in what you said.. to a degree. There are negative effects if done improperly. Maybe not at first.. but it will catch up to you.
You can make keto a lifestyle if you understand keto and its done properly. It's the MAINSTREAM that doesn't totally understand doing keto properly to be able to make it a lifestyle. Most people eat fast foods and just focus on no carbs.. but with any style of eating.. you still have to eat quality foods to be healthy and feel good.
Keto is not high animal protein.. its supposed to be high fat.. and not necessarily all from animals.
Keto is not Adkins, which is a 1 to 1 ratio of fat to protein.
Keto is high fat.. about 70% of your food intake. I've been a personal fitness trainer for about 34 years and it took me a bit to figure out how to get my fat intake that high... lol.
I've been keto for almost 2 years... it's a lifestyle for me now.. and I do have my Greens too.. they are important.
Alot of people talk about keto and do keto, but dont know alot about doing keto correctly... they just jump in and think by not taking in carbs is enough... and it's not. There's so much more to keto than that if you want to make it long term.
And you also have to make sure you get adequate amounts of sodium and potassium or you won't feel well. You can get alot of your potassium from your Greens.. but if someone isnt taking in Greens or taking a potassium supplement.. they won't be able to stay long term on keto.
And alot of people use it to lose weight and just cut carbs.. they dont really focus on healthy keto... and they are the ones that give keto a bad rap. They say they've tried it and it's not sustainable... but it can be if one does their homework and studies it. Dr. Berg and Thomas Delauer are the best to watch about keto... it's so much more than cutting carbs.
One last thing.. keto isnt for everyone either.. but if you are someone that enjoys it but you are not feeling as good as you could.. I encourage checking out Dr. Berg, Thomas Delauer, Dr. Boz, Dr. Mindy.
Dr. Mindy is great especially for women doing keto because of our cycles.. 1 week before your cycle begins... you may need to add some progesterone raising foods for that week.. then go right back to keto after cycle starts.
Anyways.. I just wanted to be one to stick up for keto.. because it does get a bad rap.. felt lead to offer a little more education on it to shed light on how keto can be sustainable.
Still liked your video... you look great!
In the end.. its really all about finding what works for a person and what each person can stick to.
I used to compete in bodybuilding and always ate really clean.. but still craved carbs and sugar... since I dont compete anymore.. I found it very hard not to want to over do carbs. Keto has cured me if my carb and sugar cravings... so it works for me. 😊

    • @3MISSISSIPPI
      @3MISSISSIPPI  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Just like with anything it can be tweaked ... I sighted studies from Harvard and the Mayo Clinic . I’m speaking to the average joe who has jumped on the bandwagon. Healthy fat is important and a big part of a healthy plant based diet but you are the exception to people doing keto . By its nature a plant based diet won’t give you any of the issues like keto flu and naturally eliminates a lot of processed foods and carbs and does change your cravings . People doing a more vegetarian version of keto are a different story .

I don't know what Keto diet you are looking at. But the one I have looked at it recommends eating a lot of greens. It is a high fat diet but... the link of heart disease is only linked to people that abuse the keto diet to only eat bacon and cheese. That isn't the plan.

    • @3MISSISSIPPI
      @3MISSISSIPPI  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Generally, people who are eating keto are getting much of their fat from meat , dairy , and eggs .... our bodies aren’t meant to have those be what is sustaining us the most . The ratio of animal fats to greens is much too great .

@@3MISSISSIPPI I must have a different keto plan from my dietitian. But she explains the importance of greens in my diet. I have lowered my bad cholesterol and brought my good cholesterol up to where it should be. I do understand people's misunderstandings to the "Keto" diet. But I don't believe that is the real thing. people like short cuts. So they just eat fat and protein. Which clogs your arteries and shuts down your kidneys. but done Right it is sustainable and is healthy. If you balance them out. I just think that the way you are describing it isn't the fair. There is a lot of people that are again out for the fast track. Loose it damn the consequences. Those are the ones that end up hurting themselves. But done right. Eating the right way. I do agree with you only fat and protein is bad you have to have plants. but as someone wow was 467 lbs and I am better off for the Keto diet. But I was followed by a doctor and a dietitian. I started keto one year ago I've lost 60 lbs and I'm in the best physical shape of adult life. I love keto.. Healthy fats are your friend the fat kills the cravings satisfies the hungers this allowing you to go longer between meals creating caloric deficit thus the magic of keto.

Healthy fats are good for you but the amount of animal products and protein required for the average keto diet is not healthy long term . Intermittent fasting is a much healthier and more sustainable way to achieve ketosis. When you create a calorie deficit you Jack with your metabolism which creates problems down the road . Eating a healthy mostly plant based diet enables you to get all the nutrients your body needs . You body runs on nutrients not calories . Don’t believe me ? Eat 100 of Oreos and 100 calories of broccoli. Calories and counting them are bs. I never said you could loose weight on keto .... the question is getting healthy , getting to your bodies optimal weight , and maintaining your health long term which the traditional keto diet doesn’t provide because of the heavy animal fats and proteins and other nutritional restrictions . I reach ketosis daily without restrictions . There is a better way to reach ketosis than “the diet” .

    • @zeynepbandirma6087

cbusser No. It will not trigger diabetic ketoacidosis EVER if you are not a diabetic. If you are a diabetic, I would suggest following the diet with the supervision of your doctor. This is a medical diet so he/she should be familiar with how it works. But the reality is that if you do not have diabetes or are prediabetic, ketoacidosis will not occur. And nutritional ketosis is not the same thing. One occurs because of sugar and insulin imbalance and the other occurs to metabolize fat.

There are healthier ways to reach Ketosis and control insulin response without eliminating important sources of nutrients. A mostly plant based diet has less negative effects on your total health down the line . This current “keto craze “ has people focusing on fats from animal protein and simply cutting carbs and that is what I’m addressing . If someone considers themselves keto but is eating a mostly plant based version they are still missing out on key nutrients from whole grains like barley.

There are other ways to reach Ketosis than shoveling in the bacon and skipping the toast . Most people that eat a lot of carbs are getting them from processed foods and sugars . I'll agree with you that a "proper keto" diet, you need healthy fats from things like avocados and such, not much from protein.
I'll will correct you on a couple things that you are mistaken on the keto diet. You said it's a high fat, high protein, low carb diet...all that's correct except the protein part, as it should moderate protein (as in moderation). Also you said that with the keto will raise cholesterol... wrong, if done correctly. I've had enough blood test done recently after dieting to say my LDL is the low and and my HDL is going up by adding fish/fish oil to my diet...
To the point of being a "yo-yo" diet...I guess it can be...just like every other diet. It takes willpower and dedication, without it, any diet won't stick. I hate the term diet, even more so far diet. I must prefer lifestyle changes. Will I stay on keto forever? No...once I hit my target weight, I'll switch to the low carb diet and maintain/not gain fat. Not to say that there are many people who sustain keto for a really long time.

    • @3MISSISSIPPI

Again I’m speaking about the keto craze that has people eating animal fats ( which translates to animal protein) ... I’ll get into other ways to reach Ketosis that are healthy in another video . But by eating a more plant based diet and getting your healthy fats from that arena you cut out the other risks and issues . You also are cutting out processed foods and sugars that way and dramatically limited those kind of carbs . People who are eating plant based are automatically eating low carb .

My biggest issue with keto, asides from it being inherently unbalanced as a dietary lifestyle, is that it allows for cortisol to be unchecked in the body. Carbohydrates naturally lower cortisol, and well, cortisol accelerates the aging process. Everyone I know who is over the age of 30-35 who are keto fanatics (who have been 'doing' keto for an extended period of time) look older than what they actually are. One of my favorite filmmakers of excellent documentaries, Chris Bell, while I appreciate his work in docs, is a major advocate of the 'carnivore diet' and he looks terribly old. I don't think it's a coincidence. I guess I can't say much, though. I'm only 32 and my hair is pretty much completely gray, making me look older than what I am lol (my display photo is 8+ years old and I need to change it), but that's genetics and uncontrollable; daily moisturizing has kept the skin on my face in good condition otherwise. Great video. I'm also an advocate of intermittent fasting.... but only because I love to eat a big, huge meal as I HATE small meals. I'm so much more productive in the early mornings with an empty stomach vs. if I eat. Once I eat, I'm ready to kick back on the couch and sleep. No issues with my blood sugar whatsoever (fasting blood sugar stays between 79-82).

There isn't a fad diet that allows you to lose weight and stave off health problems. My mother died of renal failure, so I'm aware of Adkins diet issues. Even eating renal deprives the body of nutrients required, as removing potassium and sodium causes muscle weakness. Everything in moderation.
You being located in California, have a 10 month growing season for your garden. Growing fresh vegetables that produce good yields that you like is a misnomer. Most of the country has less than a 6 month growing season at best.
My planter boxes are built and am waiting for my leaf mulch to decompose before I get some soil, even then it will be late March or early April before the temperatures won't yield a chance of frost. Growing seedlings in the house is a no-go with having cats that love getting into greens. This years goal is tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, squash, broccoli, and green beans. Onions are cheap at the grocery store, the other vegetables are crazy in price. Now to keep the deer and hopefully the goats out of the planters will be the challenge.

So I've been on the keto diet for 20 plus years so have many friends... when you first switch your digestive system over from a traditional high or moderate carbohydrate diet you will experience some physical and mental changes, I personally never go the Keto flue, not do I know anyone else who has, I do know that, mentally I became much sharper. As far is it raising your cholesterol, that is not true, your body uses fat for fuel and burns fat much quicker and more efficiently than carbohydrates. i.e. bread pasta, sugar etc. If you are doing the keto diet correctly you are eating a balance of vegetable fat, avocados, cashews etc. salmon and fatty fish, olive oil etc. it's about balance. where people go wrong , as you stated is they think it's ok to live on bacon and hot dogs...

    Hi Syd!!
Normally when I watch your videos I am on board with your thoughts at least 99%. However, when it comes to Keto, I have to say that I do not agree with you on this one.
The Keto diet, or at least the one that I am on, is first and foremost, very sustainable. And while there are many who think their fats need to be animal fats, I ascribe to a coconut oil, avocado, kerrygold butter (when I use butter), and lastly fat from the animal’s flesh. I do keep my carbs down by cutting out the same garbage you avoid like sugary drinks and processed foods, but I know the body requires some carbs and I eat a ton of fresh and frozen veggies.
My results are great! My blood pressure meds have been cut in half TWICE! In fact I am completely off of one of my medications for blood pressure! My diabetes meds have been cut in half and again in half as of my most recent visit. My Dr checked my cholesterol and strangely I am in the normal range for the first time in forever. My BMI had plummeted from a 44.39 about 18 months ago down to a 28.5 as of last Friday! I was 275 pounds at my heaviest and last Friday I was 179!!
To be fair though, I do exercise 6 days a week. 5 of those are on the job as I bust a sweat at work because I bust my ass; and the other day is running around chasing my son.
Maybe I have found the proper balance to the keto diet, or maybe it’s because I also use ketones that I buy from my friend. Either way. It works. At least for me.
And I’m not a Doctor either. But, I do play one in the bedroom.
