    So tell me who should receive the +1 longsword, Talon, gifted to Valanthe: Merric or Vandross. Let me know in the comments as well as why you are choosing this person. Vandross should get it, Because Halfling would have to wield as a greatsword and would lose out on Rogues backstab attack. Merric should stay as is.

    Game mechanics logic, the sword goes to the fighter.
    Storyline reasons it *could* go to the elf, with some mechanics advantages.
    The nothic voice acting was great. Keep up the great work. :)

    The Nothic encounter was truly inspiring. When I was reading through the module I had a tough time understanding how to play this part out. I think when my players get to this part I will take inspiration from your characterization of this nothic

    Nothic! Love it. And it looks like a whole bunch of other people did too. Your story and voice acting adds so much to this adventure.
    I think, like a lot of people I’d vote van for the sword. But that’s the gamer in me. The elf may be a good tie breaker though. She had been at disadvantage attacking in cramped quarters, after all. And there’s nothing to say that she might not decide to give it to one of the group later, as the story would make it poignant. She could even mention to Merric that a party shares what it has, but that merric behaved as a rogue-as if only his want mattered. Speaking with an elvish proverb or something could reinforce her point, as she delays her decision?

      Thanks! Great to hear you enjoyed it. I want to shout out to the voice actors who added so much to this video: Joseph Spruce for his fantastic voicing of the Nothic and Jon Woolhouse for his great rendition of Glasstaff.
      Also nice idea for Valanthe to give some ‘feedback’ to Merric when she chooses who should receive the sword.

    I say Vandross should receive the sword because he is the fighter with proficiency in all martial weapons. He is the party's main striker and will ultimately end up making the most attacks out of the group. A +1 sword will go a long way to making him more viable as a frontliner. Meric seems like he would be more of a surprise attacker, using ranged attacks and his ability to hide as a bonus action to maneuver around the field. Getting up close to use a sword is not ideal for him. Besides, he strikes me more as a trickster than a fighter.

    I’m thinking Vandross since longswords are not finesse. They are versatile though, so Vandross can go sword and board or two handed depending on the situation.

    What an evil giggle. Sounds fun. Give the fighter vandross the mighty +1 weapons. Fighters love all the buffs to strikes and damage. Does jt talk to him, saying it's hungry for souls.

  • @PatRiot-le7rd
    @PatRiot-le7rd ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Because he would, as a fighter, most likely have the highest strength score in the party, Vandross would be the optimal character to wield Talon. His higher strength bonus would provide a higher chance to hit and a higher bonus to damage with a melee weapon. Still, for flavor reasons, I like the idea of an elven wizard with an elegant magical sword.

  • @warpspasm6652
    @warpspasm6652 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think Valanthe would either hold on to the sword herself until she has researched/ recalled information about it (handy if she is a bladesinger wizard) or give it to Vandross after his trouble to swing his greatsword in a narrow passage way. Torgga may also be an option as her spells seem to be range based and she might like a nice weapon in case anything gets too close. I think Merrick is not an option as he isn't entirely trustworthy and he killed someone that could have given them useful information.

    My opinion on this (if I was the GM) : Since the Nothic is neutral evil, giving away a valuable treasure as a reward for the magical staff is something it'd probably not do, unless there's some gain for itself in the process. The "Neutral" and "Evil" combination makes it clear this creature does not act within customs or acts of ethical inclination, and is willing to do evil things for its own gains and nothing else. The Nothic is positively mad and has a passion for anything of magical nature. In my interpretation, this Nothic would not depart from a magical treasure, it may probably betray the party at some point and keep it all to itself in its stash. It's possible it hasn't done so yet because the party is stronger and would defeat it in combat.
    If I was one of the players in this game, my character would be wary on accepting this gift. There's probably a price for this that was not declared by the nothic. Its greed for secrets and power made it be this way. Remember: The creature has just betrayed the mage it had struck a deal as soon as it got the upper hand. Why not betray the party members later? It already knows their secrets, anyway.
    Still, trading a longsword +1 for the magical staff makes sense, all things considered. Kind of like "An eye for an eye" kind of deal for retrieving the mage's staff. The nothic is probably doing this to avoid being killed by the adventurers. The nothic (or mainly any other Neutral Evil character) is all about taking advantage of the situation. If the party members gets in trouble and the nothic see an opportunity to strike, well, y'know ...
    That is just me, anyway. :)
    Overall, not a bad run! Especially with the addition of more voice actors for the game. This is getting better and better!
    P.S.: I almost forgot! Vandross is the best choice for the longsword so far. Longswords are versatile and, assuming his build is of a two-handed weapon kind of fighter, he can use it and retain his advantage with his fighting style. Maybe with a magical weapon he can score more hits in the future. It looks like he needs a bit of help. Back to bootcamp, soldier!

    • @soloDandD
      @soloDandD  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for your thoughts on the Nothic’s alignment. I decided to draw more from the description of the Nothic’s origin as a cursed wizard for its motivation to give it a more unique flavour to its actions than alignment alone could give. This explains its desire for the wizards staff over a longsword as well as the connection that Valanthe was able to make with it. Certainly agree that it’s not to be trusted.

    • @LordMelkayar
      @LordMelkayar ปีที่แล้ว

      @@soloDandD Yes, I can see that as well. It makes sense to have it trade a sword for a staff. An arcane staff is much more interesting than a magical sharp blade, eh? I thought that Nothics were more like "magic junkies" than creatures with a thinking process enough to hold the end of a bargain.
      Did you make a roll for that or you just decided to go with it?
      Also: Valanthe is officially sus. Let's hope she doesn't turn evil later. Well, fingers crossed!

    • @soloDandD
      @soloDandD  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The adventure text suggests that the Nothic is open to negotiating a bargain in that Glasstaff has managed to do that already and uses the creature as a guard. The roll on whether the Nothic would obey Glasstaff suggested that it would have allegiance on a condition which I interpreted as giving it the glass staff. When Glasstaff failed to do so, it switched allegiance.
      Yes, Valanthe is an inscrutable character, very focussed on her own agenda. Whether she’ll turn evil, we’ll have to wait and see 😊.

    • @LordMelkayar
      @LordMelkayar ปีที่แล้ว

      @@soloDandD Well put. I guess I overlooked the part where the Nothic is more flexible than it seems. Oh well, those details are hard to manage, aren't they? Soloing is great, but the bookeeping can be a pain sometimes.
      Just keep doing what you're doing. It's working just fine. :)

    I'm thinking either Torga or Valanthe should take the sword. By it's description, I imagine a cleric wielding it. But then again, it was gifted to Valanthe and maybe Nothy knew it'd be best for her to use it? Or maybe he just liked her best as a fellow wizard. Not sure. But if Valanthe ended up as a Battle Mage, I wouldn't be upset.

      I played a bladesinger wizard in LMoP. My character wasn't highly optimized because of roleplay/background reasons. The party kept giving me all the magic items, so I wound up with the Glass Staff and Talon. The DM could only hit me with a critical hit or with AOEs targeting constitution savings throws. Bladesinger nearly breaks this starter adventure, and the only thing that really prevented that was the fact I couldn't hit anything with the longsword. I just danced around the battlefield casting magic missile and sleep, and shrugged of attacks while the rest of the party did the heavy lifting.

    • @soloDandD

      Well that would be one sweet weapon if it did that. However I just checked and the description says plus 1 to attack and damage rolls for attacks made with the sword. Sadly, I don’t think that includes spells cast whilst holding the sword.

    I didn't catch what cleric Torgga is. But if she is proficent, she should have the sword. Meric can't use it for anything really and Vandros is the heavy weapon type.
    It be a Salomonic (ie elvish) thing to give it to those not asking.

Maybe the Nothic is an ancestor of Valanthe and recognised her as his blood. Now in pursuit to punish those who wronged him he binds himself to his kin.
