I'm getting back into reading comics and i'm currently working on exhausting my DC in take and once I do i'll move on to marvel and start that back up. I appreciate this video.
Wanted to give a quick thanks for putting this together. My dad was a big fan of Marvel growing up in the 70s/80s so I’d been somewhat exposed to it (and read some of my own), but after binging Invincible and getting really interested in Marvel again (thanks Spider Verse and the awesome Latour/ Renzi run of Spider Gwen) and wanted a place to start after I finished the large spider events and this video was great. I wanted to hit both the highlights of the past and get up to speed with current events and this video was perfect for that.
5:11 Fresh start that's me. The vibrant colours & texture of comics look really cool now. The artists of all these comics use so many different & amazing art styles. Today I bought my first Marvel comic in 40yrs. I even got covers & a backing to preserve it.
@@connymac6993 I don't know yet. I'm waiting for my copy of the book. I'm guessing a minimum of 10 a day though. That's over 180,000 comics in a five year time frame.
The great thing about marvel is the floating timeline. That is that the characters we know and love don’t age because you can condense the old 60s era stories into the modern age
There's a lot of comics I need to read from Marvel Comics. Such as Amazing Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Incredible Hulk, Avengers, X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy, DareDevil, Ghost Rider, Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Thor, everything. Plus, I need to read every Marvel event from Avengers: The Kree-Skrull War to King In Black. I already have 5 events in Collection Volumes: which are World War Hulk, Secret Invasion, War of Kings, Realm of Kings, and Secret Wars 2015. I'm going to read Secret Wars 1984, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and Time Runs Out in preparation for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars in the MCU. But right now, I'm trying to read all of the Ultimate Universe. Starting with the Ultimate Spider-Man comics.
Try Marvel's Essential TPB series. The entire Silver and Bronze MCU is reprinted in those books. You can usually find them online for about half price, or you can borrow them from library for free.
Is it bad that I've ordered my first comic which I coming soon is the amazing spiderman the menace of mysterio which was published on June the 13th 2019
Don't buy new comics for investment. Over 95% of then will be worth cover price or less 30 years from now. Only buy what you enjoy reading. You can also borrow TPBs and Graphic Novels from the library and read them for free. If you want to invest try buying superhero comics at least 40 years old in higher grade from comic conventions, comic stores, E-bay, flea markets and garage sales. Learn how to grade comics and keep that price guide handy and try not to pay no more than half overstreet value.
I doubt anyone will see this comment but I’m new to comics and I was wondering how to obtain a physical copy of some of the earlier comics. Were they remade or do I have to spend thousands of dollars to get them?
The publishers do reprints, currently ‘facsimile editions’ of key issues, but typically these are limited to key issues. For complete stories there are trade paperbacks, omnibus and other books. Older non-key issues, especially low grade can be found cheaply, but availability is hit and miss. If you have a local comic book store go and talk to them.
Awesome! I just started with the Reading Order guide with the “Road to Disassembled” list and Marvel Knights. Hopefully, I’ll find time to get caught up to modern day at some point. I need to try DC too.
Quick question, what if I want to do 25 best marvel comics 1961-2000 and then hop onto your top 100 from 1998-2015? Then maybe after that do modern start? So basically, what if I want to do a mix of all 3 of these overall? What do I do?
@@penburgerwhere are you reading them? I mean physical copies or digital? Please let me know, as I also wanna start my reading journey from the beginning.
Unlike dc which started back in the 30s, marvels main runs started in the 60s, and hoenslty you can go right upto the late 90s. Past that its highly questionable. Unfortunately the 90s also gave birth to the ridiculous issies you needed for crossovers. Choose some books and strapnin for 30 years of great storytelling
comics are for people who like stories that never end and even when something shocking happens you can be sure that the status quo always goes back to normal. Basically you have to be a litte insane.
Judgment Day? One of the worst events I've ever read. Thats saying a lot, considering events are the poorest quality of marvel comics. Well, I wasn't able to read all of it. I bought the comics, but it was too painful to read. Immortal Hulk is awesome.
