Mine is Scout 90% complete now and the weather should have calmed enough by next week, I cannot wait to maiden, especially after watching the awesome fun had by you guys in the snow.
Love that glimpse time-lapse of what Josh was building. Similar to the stuff of rctestflight! He has some cool snowy vehicles that exploit ground effect and we would would love to see your take on them!
The quad footage right at the end. After the de-float of TJ's plane. Not the biggest fan of quads. But that final sequence with the snow and the trees with the sun shining through. That IS really artistic.
Here in Louisville Ky we have about 4" 5" the past 2 days and 12 degrees at day to 3 degrees night! It's just too frigging cold out there for me! I'm 72 years old and I love to fly anything, anytime, but when it gets that cold I fly my mini drones INSIDE THE HOUSE on days like today!

Full sized floats have retractable water rudders because at landing and takeoff speeds they command way too much control. I expect if you were to put them on an RC plane, you wouldn't be flying, you'd be spending all your time fishing out a flipped over plane. On powder snow they'd be little more than snow anchors, creating massive drag and not steering anyway. On crusty snow, they'd drag on the top and skate, again, not steering. I wonder about proper skis, say for the Simple Cub or Simple Storch. Preferably with a steerable tail ski. Snow performance isn't always scalable, though, so it may turn out that those flat-bottomed floats could end up performing better.
Too much fun!!! Please revisit the floatplanes-on-snow awesomeness with the new fleet, especially Porco Rosso and the Curtis :-D Red and Blue would really stand out against the snow!
The ramp jumps are cool in the snow , Stephens was awesome . You guys got me hooked, got a MILLENNIUM FALCON and am moving to something bigger. I got my niece's two girls interested also. I also ran into Fred Provost in Fl. a couple of weeks ago .

You guy should do video about building balsa planes from plans. I like building balsa but there are only a few videos about building balsa planes from scratch. it would be a good winter project/video for you to do!

Was I hearing a little blade-chop on the floats, or is that just the cold air causing that prop to sound that way? I suppose you wouldn't fly it if there wasn't sufficient clearance. I can't imaging how smooth those take off and landings feel compared to any grass field. thumbs up gang!

Why don't you guys try to make something like the german Me-163 or the japanese Ki-200 with the ski landing gear thing and have fun on the snow or even grass. Love your videos!!!

I've found that the FT Otter loves the snow! I just made a smaller version of the floats from the FT Sea Duck to replace the ski things the Otter had.

Eric Stewart They do use ramps on certain carriers to help aid lift for takeoff on short ship runways.
Check out Russian aircraft carriers.
