That's an amazing homemade setup! The time and thought put into it will pay off if you have a steady supply of wire. More small scale scrapping/recycling like this needs to happen so we don't have to keep messing up nature with more mining.

I love what u did here but for scrap i get more money for solid bare bright wire but for so cable thus is possibly a really good idea but it looks a lot funner then stripping wire all day and good way to proses if u plan on melting it down
Thanks, The smaller wire which I call spaghetti wire is sometimes too tedious to strip it’s faster just to throw it in this granulator. I ran that granulator and my wire stripper at the same time.

That was a plastics granulator in it's earlier life. They had a tendency to heat up from friction and melt down the plastic. Had to let it cool overnight and chip it all out.
That’s exactly what it was, I bought it at an auction from a plastic mold injection company. I paid $400 for it and put a faster motor on it and reduced the screen size.
@@ProjectShopFl Taking the pan out of the bottom was a good idea. We had a vacuum line hooked up to the pan and fed the granules back into the machine on top. Stuid idea with a granulator that ran 100% of the time and a vacuum machine that ran intermittently. It would clog up and melt down. We had several of these machines.

@@ProjectShopFl My company, Collins and Aikmann, went out of business in 2007 and everything was sold at auction. We made all that plastic trim you see inside your minivan, and dashboards for Dodge Ram, Durango, and most of the Jeeps.
I chop it up to sell it. Spaghetti wire is too tedious and easier just to throw in the granulator. This copper is from small thin wire. No PCBs. The final product Is 99.9% pure copper no green bits that might just be the camera.

I’m not sure but it’s not fast enough, first motor I had was over 3000 rpm’s then it burned up because someone got it James and never shut off the machine. I put a 1700 rpm motor on and it does the job just can’t feed it as fast

@@marcingapski3819 More RPM’s was way better. A two stage or (pre shredder) system is something I’m already thinking about. I found that if you cut the copper wire into half inch pieces it goes through the granulator so much faster and less stress on the machine. I think I’m going to try to make a single staffed pre-shredder but I’ll drop the piece is the weather in the lawnmower and run the pre-shredder at about 50% capacity of the machine. This was just a prototype I set up to see if it was worth it. I learned a lot the main things are pre-shred, and make sure no steel, have lots of water pressure and flow, and break the water tension so the copper doesn’t float on top. The multiple trees on the sluice work good for that I’ve actually got some really good Ideas for the next setup. Thank you again for watching

I’m in south Flordia. Yes it can be scaled down. That was just a prototype, I was playing with to see if the concept would work. I have since taken that apart and with the knowledge I learned I an about to build a new compact unit witch will be faster, more efficient, and compact. That set up even having 3 harbor freight pumps did not have enough water flow. I am adding bigger pumps and vibration to the new setup. I will be making videos of the build.

It did it but it didn’t like it and I’d rather strip it with my machine because I get more money for bright and shiny copper wire then copper chops. Each 5 gal bucket of plastic copper mix has about 36 lbs of copper. 5 buckets of mix = 1 180 Lb 5 gal bucket of pure 99+% copper chops. So it could wash easily 5-600 lbs an hour. 1-2% loss in copper stuck to insulation witch I run again and recover some but have an idea to grind the insulation down further and run that with less water pressure.

I sell as is. Its in between a #1 and #2 copper price. Most places won't take ingots because they don't know if its mixed metal.
