That air raid siren brought back memories of my school days in London during the war; when one went off we would make a dash for the nearest shelter - still, we survived! As the old song says "Thanks for the memory "

Great catches! Siren is more likely an alert for the local volunteer fire dept. judging by the vehicle sirens heard in the distance shortly after at the 17:00 mark. I'm a retired vol firefighter now but for 29 years that sound kicked me into a mild adrenaline overdrive.
That's actually a fire siren for fire departments. Hearing one go off for dispatch is rare these days, since they normally use pagers and radios. But since you're in New York, most fire departments are old school and use bells, diaphones, and sirens for calls.
At Hobby Lobby, we get our trailers to unload and restock the store every Friday. Each one comes from the distribution center in Oklahoma. Sometimes trailers are sometimes blocked by harsh weather or snow storms, and won't get to the store on time, so they'll throw them on trains last second.
That must have been the monthly siren test, when they blared, my cat came to the patio window to see what was going on, just like he does when they test ours, which is tomorrow. Whooooooo!, that I-020 sure was singing!(in the rain!)
I was down in Shelby MT over the holiday weekend and I saw a train go through the BNSF terminal with a mid-locomotive and I yelled "DPU Alright"!!!! in the car. My GF looked at me like I had 3 heads and I'm pretty sure she considered leaving me there in the middle of nowhere. True story!!!
Love the railroad signals for how they are flashing at the crossing for where you at. Great Catch on the CSX Trains and the Air Raid Siren. Keep filming more trains.
The Bedford Park, Illinois terminal is exactly two miles from the house I grew up in. Wikipedia calls it "the largest switching terminal railroad in the United States." While there my hometown of Burbank would test their tornado warning siren every Tuesday morning at 10:30.
WWOT Awesome video.👍. I usually hear the siren go off on Friday nights There is a neighborhood that is near my job in Brooklyn that pulls the siren and that means it is the Sabbath.
I believe the siren was for the local volunteer fire department. After it was done about a minute later in the video you can hear sirens from emergency vehicles.
Hi from Green Bay GO PACKERS! Our air raid sirens ALWAYS activate at 12:00 P.M.C.D. on Wednesday afternoons and slightly staggered so you can tell from which direction a storm comes. Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 ❤ 2021 A.D.!!!!!
See those amber lights on CSX 6545? Those amber lights indicate that the locomotive is equipped with a remote control system that doesn’t require the crew to be present in the locomotive during switching operations.
it's a storm siren i've got them here and they test them once o month from April to October during tornado season!! it's damn annoying they never blow the thing until after the storm blows through when they do blow it!!
There are towns where they go off at noon. There is a place in New York State where you can hear two of them going off, at Henry Hudson Park in Bethlehem, NY, and the sirens are coming from across the Hudson River in Castleton on Hudson (part of Schodack).
That siren was for the fire department and I heard a siren from a emergency vehicle off in a distance. Were I live the fire department has a siren and it goes off when there’s a call.
Hey wide world of trains! Just wondering if you caught the gigantic military train that went through Dunkirk on Saturday I saw it in Cleveland and had a ton of trucks first aid trucks and tanks it was really cool and it was over 150 cars
I do not know if we got air raid sirens any more as we got a system called Alert Ready that warns the general public. they give me chills. love piggy back trains.
WWOT when you started that video way down there I saw a double signal mast with a red signal, so I knew a train was on that block, but on the other end of that signal mast was another signal which was green (clear), so being a retired railroad guy I knew we had a train meet. We had another train coming from the other direction. I know you knew it too. That’s what’s neat about yours and others cameras, they reach out so far. Anyway I just thought that was cool. Thanks for an awesome video. 👍👍👍❤️
Those lights activate when they blow the horns for RR Xings, and stop flashing when they are past the crossing, unless there are multiple crossings, then the lights flash for a longer period of time.

i take they test the siren every so often here they do it once a week April to October during tornado season although i don't know why they always seem to blow the damn thing 5 minutes after the storms go through! if it was shooting a gun a cross eyed sniper would hit more than they would! they also used to use it during the summer to let the fire department volunteers know they had a call too but they don;t do that anymore and have went to pagers!
@Wide World of Trains- Hi.. late again. but when I was watching La Plata chat there you were popping in to say "hey all" 12-6-21 8pm but 9pm your time Hi always great to see you pop in and say hello! Yeah where i live there a fire department around a mile away so i hear the sirens at 12 o clock and every time there is a call
In some parts of the country
A siren could also be a tornado warning

It’s actually a fire siren, presumably a Sentry 7V8 or 16V.
I live near a AFB in Georgia and they test theirs every now and then.
The Bedford Park, Illinois terminal is exactly two miles from the house I grew up in. Wikipedia calls it "the largest switching terminal railroad in the United States." While there my hometown of Burbank would test their tornado warning siren every Tuesday morning at 10:30.

Name: Sentry 10V
Location: Main FD
when the first train was going through, I noticed the clear signal for the 2nd train. Good to see them meet.
First, don't worry, its just a typical test to see its working
and if the ones there are anything like the idiots here they'll blow the damn thing 5 minutes after the storm blows through!!!
I believe the siren was for the local volunteer fire department. After it was done about a minute later in the video you can hear sirens from emergency vehicles.

I think that air siren is probably a Sentry 15V1T or maybe a Sentry 3V8H. They might have conducted a monthly tornado siren test or something.
