This is awesome to me, someone first considering VO after 20 years talking on the phone for a living, on two levels: One, the wealth of excellent advice in under 10 min. from an obviously seasoned veteran pro, delivered in an easy-to-understand, CONVERSATIONAL manner; and two, it's very encouraging--and this is meant with all due respect--that a person can succeed in this field despite having a vocal defect such as a pronounced lisp, if they have aptitude and perseverance. Well done, sir.
Thank you Dan, you really created something of value here to the beginning voice over talent out there. So many voice over professionals are afraid to put out any information they might not get paid for- to them this video would probably have a $50 price tag at least.
Excellent advice... not only do you know what you are talking about, you are able to teach others what you know.. Thanks for taking the time and effort to make this video!!!!
Dan Levine has done a tremendous job in coaching a novice like me! Thanks! As far as I am concern, those who posted with 4 letter words need to hold their tongues and show respect to the speaker.
Incredible advice! Very useful! Thank you so much. Those of you who are pointing out his disability.... it's always like this: THE BEST financial director has/had financial problems himself, the marriage counsellor is usually divorced and a dietist was overweight before... etc...etc. You know the saying: we all teach, we both need to learn!!! :-) xxxx
On the outset Dan may have a lisp but don't let that stray you from the message-solid information from years of really listening to talent and knowing how the human voice can express, convey, emote and move a listener. Enjoy the "vocal mystery" idea!! Thank you Dan!
Wow...did I need to see this video! I'm brand new to voice over and trying to get my career off the ground. Thank you so much for all this valuable advice, Dan! You can tell when you are hearing sound advice....because it all makes sense! I took a lot of notes of some of the key recommendations you make in this video and have pasted them into my vocal booth as a constant reminder. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your expertise! Your tips are very helpful and take time to master. In particular I will be working on variety in each sentence as you demonstrated.
Sir you are awesome and clearly have a hang on this "biz". I'm just sorting out a few pieces for my voice reel for my agent and WOW your tips are amazing! needless to say i thank you greatly. Cheers
Thank you so much for posting this informative video. I've been interested in voice over acting for a while, but without any background it's been extremely helpful to find advice like this as a starting ground. The resources you've posted are also helpful, I may do a little more research and then call the evaluation line you mentioned! Thanks again!
Nice! I love to smile and laugh so that will help me. I think marketing and landing gigs is the most difficult aspect of the business for one looking to get started.

I think he'd be excellent at doing daffy duck or Bugs Bunny.....I find his lisp funny in an entertaining way. I could listen to him all day....now that's a true natural talent. People spend many many hours training trying to speak with a lisp. The man is a natural.Awesome voice! Great advice!
Very informative! I typed that smiling too! :) Thanks for the tips. Just off the top of your head, which do you think is more difficult to audition for, voice over acting or acting for film?
@MangoliPresents I know the Mac OS has a built in speech to text, but I've never used it before. Sorry I can't help more on this one! Let us know if you find anything good.
@violetr0se Check out our full website, we have a few more videos and a voice evaluation line you can call to speak with someone on our staff directly.
I just got my first paying voice over work with future projects lined up. I got here on raw talent and mimicking commercials since I was a boy. I'm realizing how grueling it can become on me physically. I need more stamina.
Hello! If you want to learn more and polish your skills, including vocal stamina, then come and see what we can offer you! www.suchavoice.com/register/ We can't wait to help you grow your voice talent!
@apacheslim The only surefire way I know of is to speak in a low voice as much as you can. The downside here is that you'll cause permanent damage to your larynx. A famous example of this is Michael Dorn - he spent so long forcing his voice lower to play Worf, that it's damaged his throat and lowered his natural tone by 2 whole octaves.
@MangoliPresents ivona - just google it, that's the best text to speech in existence, and you can do samples on their page. then you can actually record them on your computer, you don't have to actually buy it :)

I have a slight lisp and I work as a radio announcer. People dig it. There's much more to it than just a voice.
