*It’s perfect for me. The size is exactly **Newest.Technology** what I needed. The sound is loud enough for me to hear without having to turn it higher. Suggestions on various uses is extremely helpful! Worth every dollar spent!*
And I'd like to note if you have a hub and voice control your lights, you should still buy a dimmer switch. It doesn't depend on the wifi so if your internet goes out, You can still effectively control your smart lights.
The 2 metal discs on the back of the wall plate, you were pointing to them when you mentioned the battery, allowing the inference that they are the batteries. In fact they are the magnets. Because of this the wall plate can be mounted on any magnetic (metal) surface (fridge)!
Bought this with one extra bulb yesterday. Very simple set up. Screw in bulb hold remote close to bulb. Press and hold on until remote blinks orange. Done. One surprise. I put one bulb in the bedroom and one in the Living room. Both go on and off when I push the remote. Don't need the bedroom on when I'm in the living room.
Great vid, but a little question way off subject- where'd you get those hanging lights from?? Totally digging em for my studio! Any chance you remember?? Thanks in advance!!
What is nice about the Hue bulbs, is they use the Zigbee protocol. Zigbee can create a mesh network. Each bulb connects to the other bulb and acts as an extender to the network. So what would happen is if you have the bridge by your router, and you have a bulb say on the second floor. If your bridge is too far away to connect directly, you can put a bulb in between, the bridge will connect to the first bulb, then jump the bulb upstairs, and work.
I added it to my bridge and when I go to set a timer it asks if I want a scene or turn a light off. If I pick scene it says that bulb can not be used in a scene. I want to have it come on and turn off at a time I set.
I found this over on the Hue website: "When you are in the ‘Lights’ screen, tap on ‘create’, select the lights you want to save in your setting. Set the light setting you want to save and tap ‘Save’. Your newly saved scene is now accessible in the ‘scenes’ page." So turn the light on, then hit save. That will save that light as a scene. The timers will only activate scenes. So this very simple "scene" would just be your lights turned on. Once you save it, you can name it and adjust it. Then create your timer to schedule them. Hope that helps!
Can you have more than one switch associated with one or more lamps? I'm asking this because a useful use case I thought of was using this as a way to add light switches to a room without having to add any wires!
My smart bulbs decrease their brightness a little when i turn on my electric heater, any idea why? i mean i get it might do with the power compsumption but it still weird, i dont know if regular leds do too, i had CFL ones that didnt do this.
Does this work with the new homekit app, and can i do evrything the same as with a bridge, im new to this and would love to have my bedroom lit up with a homekit set.
+animalcopWOT you still need the Hue bridge. The Hue lights all communicate via the ZigBee protocol, and not wifi. Because of that, it needs the bridge to relay signals through wifi. The bridge is also the HomeKit device. So you will need that for any HomeKit communications. Luckily it's just a one time purchase.
So would I need the bridge to set up the scene/ lights with the switch? Can the dimmer switch also be used with lightstrip plus? How long do the batteries last and would I need to remove the adhesive to replace the batteries? Thanks.
+Switchrunner23 So if you would like to control it with the app, yes you would need the bridge. Yes, you can control any hue light with the dimmer. And no, you do not need to remove the adhesive to swap the batteries!
Great review! Can the dimmer be used in place of a traditional light switch? I'm not a fan of having a normal switch that completely cuts power to my hue bulbs.
I agree about having getting rid of switches that completely kill power. It is an appropriate enough size to cover an outlet but it doesn't have the screw holes to simply replace it
i know i'm a little late to the game but i'm with Andrew on this one, not just because it's handy when or if you change bulbs but also because if there's a bug with the dimmer switch, app, bridge or router you at least have the option to use them as traditional bulbs
I’ve purchased a smart light switch to remotely turn on and off the lights with my Amazon alexa. I’m also wanting to dim the lights with voice command but unsure what product I need to purchase. Can this dimmer be controlled by Alexa? Or am I going to need a Phillips bridge? Or am I completely off track.lol
If you already have a universal switch for a room light and you put in the dimming switch, can you still use the other switch and if you have it turned off will the Phillips hue bulb still turn on and off with the app on your phone???
They seem to have revised the dimmer again. Mine shows 1 and 0 instead of ON and OFF, and you can cycle through all the different scenes you have set up by double tapping the ON (1) button. Still feels a bit cheap and plasticky, and I wish they'd just made the face plate the same size as standard light switch.
Sure, but countries already use different voltages and plug sockets. Philips are already producing different product variants for international markets
It may very well be quite a bit fewer than you think(!) As time goes by the same hardware handles all standards for signals and regarding power supplies for electronic devices most have been able to use like 90-260 V 50-60 Hz for a very long time (well they might even go lower than stated and wider frequency range). So mostly it's just a matter what power cord you deliver and sometimes there's regionalized software but many times not even that. But sure they could adapt the wall mount to fit widths and lengths of selling regions. They might do if Hue gets popular enough. Or make you own from your local switch face plates. Shouldn't be too hard to make a square cut and mount a back plate and some magnets.
The only time you can't control them with your phone is if you turn off a manual switch somewhere. If you use the dimmer switch, you can still just turn then back on from your phone.
Yes from the software. But i cant see anyway to do it with the switch. You turn off up to 2 rooms from the off button. I did a review about it but i cant see anyway to doit.
You can't do that from the switch. The switch will only work with them as a group. You can do that easily through the Philips Hue app, but not from the physical switch.
No, you can setup so etch time you press the On button you change a scene. Up to 5 presses. You can see some of it in my review. You see some config options in the end of my review. But you need the bridge to set it up.
Please help. I have a single bulb and remote. My remote went out of sync. This model does not need an app. All the directions are for bulbs that are controlled through apps. I simply want my remote to be synced with my bulb. It's been months. I did find one site that gave me the correct directions but no matter how many ways I try to google it, I can't find it.
If I connect the hue dimmer switch to the bridge to turn on/off a scene, do I need to keep the wifi on? I'm asking this because to securely replace this with the traditional switch, I have to make shure that if somehow my internet fails, i can still control the bulbs. What if I use the dimmer switch without the hue bridge, can I still connect the bulb to the bridge and control it with the iphone?
+Sérgio Moreira Hi! There are a few questions in there so I will just try to break it down and hope I cover everything! The bridge itself must be connected to your router. To connect your phone to the bridge (which will control the lights) you must be connected to your wifi. There is an important distinction between being connected to the "internet" and connected to the "wifi". To control your bulbs you must be connected to your wifi network, but you don't have to have internet. So a lot of people may have shoddy internet that requires them to restart their modem or router, but as long as you are actually connected to wifi, the app can control the bulbs. Internet access is required if you want to control the bulbs remotely. The second part I am a little unsure of what you're asking. Are you asking if you connect the bulb to the app, but you do not connect the dimmer switch to the app? And you want both the app and the dimmer to control the bulb? I do not think that will work. The dimmer sends out its own signal so once you pair the bulb with the bridge/app it forgets its pairing with the dimmer. I would think that even if you connect them both to the bridge/app, the dimmer should still be able to send out a signal directly and control the bulbs with the bridge offline, though I haven't tested that myself.
Thank you for the answer. I didn't know that about wifi and internet. Thought the internet would need to exist (but it makes sense not to be needed in local wifi connection). The other part of the question was because the bridge only allows 12 dimmer switches to be connected if i'm not mistaken. My idea was to never allow anyone to turn of the switches so that i can always control the lights with the phone. I would replace more than 12 switches with the dimmer switch and so I would need to manually connect the dimmer to the bulbs I want (we can do that up to 10 bulbs if I'm not mistaken again). And I would like the bridge to connect to the bulb as well... and that is why I would like to know if it works.
Well you can connect 12 switches per bridge, I guess you would have the option of getting a second bridge? If you are buying 12+ switches, another 30-40 on a second bridge wouldn't be a huge investment
+Andrew OHara I just read on amazon that we can control the same bulbs with more than one switch so i assume we can control them without connecting the dimmer to the bridge and still use the bridge. I read the faqs at philips hue and they say that if the dimmer is connected to the bridge and we want to manually connect it to a bulb, we need to disconnect it from the bridge and then reset the dimmer so it disconnects from the bulb it is connected to. I'm assuming the dimmer and the lamp are connected to the bridge because we connect it to the bridge so that we can define the lamps it controls trough the app. My first two dimmers arrive friday or monday so i will test it. thank uou for the replies, best regards. Once i test it i will put the info here. Might be usefull for others ;)
I have this bulb with the dimmer. I don't use a bridge, my battery went off a few weeks ago I forgot to by others, but now I replaced it but the dimmer doesn't seems to connect to the bulb, the bulb works just fine with the wall switch, but the dimmer control doesn't do anything, I tried resetting it and after it starts ticking orange for a while nothing happens, help please :(
Good review thank you. A question: can I use this dimmer to dim the living room with the new V2 starter set? The website from philips says ''only dimmable with an app' so if I would buy just the switch can I use it for three light on the same floor ? I would like an easy way for just turning on/off lights
+Stefan Brand (Mr. Google) Yes! They should be able to dim any bulb from Hue. You can tie bulbs to it with the Hue app and control them. I have my two kitchen lights on the dimmer at the moment which are both multi color V2s.
sifis flisk You can get just the hub: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014H2P42K/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=maotecrev-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B014H2P42K&linkId=deb28c4e4e581da6e2c1e7cd80b0c8a9 Or you can get a start pack with bulbs. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014H2OZAC/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=maotecrev-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B014H2OZAC&linkId=b116ed30a9791fe0391bfecdcb7c14ba
+Max Koon This will work with ALL hue bulbs. Whether it is the Lightstrip plus, the White & Color ambiance standard bulbs, or the disney bloom light. if it works in the Hue app, it will work with this dimmer switch!
+Andrew OHara omg I'm so sorry I have a best buy gift card. :( you have any other products that have a code like this that I could check out in the future. Also I love you videos dude! Keep up the good work!!
No worries! I've recently been testing that out. New ways to try and fund all the video production! You can always message me for a link, or any new videos going forward will have the links. If you subscribe you can check them out! Thanks!
+Stine larsen I don't think you can use an app without the bridge. The switch is simply sending the rf signal to the bulbs. When you have the bridge, it takes the rf signals and converts them to your local network, which is available on your phone. So without the bridge, you have no phone access.
Hello! I have a question... Can you still use your old light switches to turn on and off your lights of do I have to leave it on and just use the remote to turn the lights on and off? :) Thanks!!
Thanks for the great review. I've been holding off on buying any more Lux bulbs until these were available, and now I am ready to order a few sets. So far I haven't found any being sold in the US yet from sites like Amazon or Home Depot. Do you know when these bulbs will be released in the US? Thanks.
+Keith Acorn Im not sure. They used to have them and then they were pulled. I will be updating my review page as well as the description with the link as soon as it is available!
Great review! Good to see it in action! I am not sure though if the name they are selling it with is confusing me. I have 5 GU10 hue bulbs in the kitchen, would this new remote allow me to control and dim these types of bulbs do you reckon?
I have not tested the iConnectHue. There are many third-party apps out there that seams to be great :) Nice review Andrew. I did learn a couple of things here to. And it did make me test out a couple of things i did not test before :) Like that the lamps did remember the On button klicks i did setup in the bridge even if i did turn it off. So the lamps did change color whiteout the bridge :) But you need it to configure the bulbs.
+Mr Skeltal Its just in the background! To be honest, the real reason is I composed the intro a number of years ago, and upgraded to a new machine in then so I don't have the original track I created to remove it. I simply left it on while working and forgot to turn it off when exporting it from Logic Pro Studio. :-/ Now I need to create another or try to look through backups for the original file!
like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, th-cam.com/users/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....

+T BlackGiraffe Correct, those are the magnets that attach to the mount or fridge compared to the twist option in the Tap.
So you did add an extra bulb? And you dont have the bridge? Did a review about it but i did not test that without the bridge.
Does the Philips hue dimmer switch work with other smart light bulbs like the sengled?
Great vid, but a little question way off subject- where'd you get those hanging lights from?? Totally digging em for my studio! Any chance you remember?? Thanks in advance!!
that dimmer switch is dope. I love the ability to change the battery when it runs out, compared to buying a new switch (hue tap 50€ vs battery 0,5€)
Santeri Miettinen why would you buy a new tap if it uses the kinetic energy to produce energy, and thus doesn’t need a battery or replacement.
can u control the lights with apple homekit, alexa with voice??????
What about the range of the control? At which distance can the lamps be put away from the bridge? Is there any way to extend the range?
What is nice about the Hue bulbs, is they use the Zigbee protocol. Zigbee can create a mesh network. Each bulb connects to the other bulb and acts as an extender to the network. So what would happen is if you have the bridge by your router, and you have a bulb say on the second floor. If your bridge is too far away to connect directly, you can put a bulb in between, the bridge will connect to the first bulb, then jump the bulb upstairs, and work.
All is depending on your wifi then. Just extend you wifi and your on :) I did a review about Hue and i did like the range.
So the dimmer can work with your existing bulbs? No need to use the one that comes with the light?
If you add the switch and white bulb to a hue hub can you set a timer for the light to come on and off?
+detroitwwraps You need the bridge to do this.
Your newly saved scene is now accessible in the ‘scenes’ page."

Hope that helps!
So is this kit not compatible with HomeKit when not using a bridge?
+Aworkful Correct, you need the bridge.
Andrew OHara Thanks :D
Can you have more than one switch associated with one or more lamps?
I'm asking this because a useful use case I thought of was using this as a way to add light switches to a room without having to add any wires!
wht color you get with this bulb is a warm white or is white led color?
+Edward Cervantes Middle of the road "natural" light, so i believe a little on the warm side
Thanks
Without the bridge but with the dimmer can I use the app to change the bulbs colors or do I need the bridge for that?
You need the bridge for that. I did a review about hue and i like it :)
Can you turn on Pulp off and get the other one on with the switch? or will need the app? Thanks!
Can you use two switches with one set of bulbs? No bridge. I want to be able to control my living room lights from the hallway and front door.
+Darga w I believe so, but only have one switch to test with
My smart bulbs decrease their brightness a little when i turn on my electric heater, any idea why? i mean i get it might do with the power compsumption but it still weird, i dont know if regular leds do too, i had CFL ones that didnt do this.
why would you install a bulb with the power on?
So the bulb have power so the software can find it. I did a review about Hue and it works fine :)
Andrew OHara ok thank you for the response.
LOVE THIS Love this, large and stable.
It is an appropriate enough size to cover an outlet but it doesn't have the screw holes to simply replace it
+Mitchel Pigsley You might want the switch still for replacing the bulb.
i know i'm a little late to the game but i'm with Andrew on this one, not just because it's handy when or if you change bulbs but also because if there's a bug with the dimmer switch, app, bridge or router you at least have the option to use them as traditional bulbs
This is true. My wife just always flips the switch without thinking and then I'm left without control.
Can we use fan controler as bulb dimmer. If it work then how many bulbs we can use in one fan controler
If you already have a universal switch for a room light and you put in the dimming switch, can you still use the other switch and if you have it turned off will the Phillips hue bulb still turn on and off with the app on your phone???
1. YEs but it depends how your dimming switch works. Does it reduce Amp or voltage?
2. No
Can you use a regular switch with the bulbs?
Yes, they would operate like normal light bulbs.
But if the switch is off, you won't be able to remotely control them, given there's no power going to the bulb, correct?
Can I turn it off and on over 10 miles way for example does wor would it use my internet next work to control ot
Can I also control the Philips Hue bulbs using the Philips Hue smart phone app along with this dimmer switch?
Austin I use the app, Alexa and this switch so yes :D
I'm just wondering if I can use a 3rd party smart bulb? Thanks
Define "standard light switch". Just about every country in the world has their own opinion about what is a standard size light switch ;)
Sure, but countries already use different voltages and plug sockets. Philips are already producing different product variants for international markets

Does it work with a Samsung Smartthings hub?
If I hit the off button, can I still Controll the lights with my phone or do you have to manually turn them back on again?
The only time you can't control them with your phone is if you turn off a manual switch somewhere. If you use the dimmer switch, you can still just turn then back on from your phone.
how do you connect 10 bulbs to one switch and turn them off and on individually? can that be even done?
Yes from the software. But i cant see anyway to do it with the switch. You turn off up to 2 rooms from the off button. I did a review about it but i cant see anyway to doit.
You can't do that from the switch. The switch will only work with them as a group. You can do that easily through the Philips Hue app, but not from the physical switch.
i guess you cant. probably just good to have them in a few rooms if no quick access to smart phones or amazon echo voice etc..
I want one dimmer per room, this is possible right? Also does it work with color bulbs?
Yes and yes
To control more than 1 scene, would you have to purchase additional dimmer switches?
No, you can setup so etch time you press the On button you change a scene. Up to 5 presses. You can see some of it in my review. You see some config options in the end of my review. But you need the bridge to set it up.
i would like to turn on just one light with the on button and turn off all the lights in the room with the off button. Is it possible ?

I simply want my remote to be synced with my bulb. It's been months. I did find one site that gave me the correct directions but no matter how many ways I try to google it, I can't find it.
Did you try the reset button in the back?
So this will work with LightStrips Plus without bridge?
I don't thinks so. I did a review about Hue and it works fine :) But i did not test that function.
Bought this kit yesterday - love it!
+PingaloBill Woo!

Yup! Any other questions let me know!
Good luck!
Does this work with the light strips?
+Noel Chew yup!
Ahh thats nice :)
I have this bulb with the dimmer. I don't use a bridge, my battery went off a few weeks ago I forgot to by others, but now I replaced it but the dimmer doesn't seems to connect to the bulb, the bulb works just fine with the wall switch, but the dimmer control doesn't do anything, I tried resetting it and after it starts ticking orange for a while nothing happens, help please :(
Hey Andrew can you pair this wireless dimmer switch to your Hue Gos?
+Thomas Walter Should pair with any Hue bulb!
there is also a difference in Kelvin between the 2 lamps. you didn't mention that
Does it works without the bridge?
Good review thank you. A question: can I use this dimmer to dim the living room with the new V2 starter set? The website from philips says ''only dimmable with an app' so if I would buy just the switch can I use it for three light on the same floor ?
I would like an easy way for just turning on/off lights
+Stefan Brand (Mr. Google) Yes! They should be able to dim any bulb from Hue. You can tie bulbs to it with the Hue app and control them. I have my two kitchen lights on the dimmer at the moment which are both multi color V2s.
Andrew OHara thank you :D enjoying the light here :)
does this product work with fillips hue led light strips?
is various color on it ?
+Abdellah Irohalen It only comes in white
+Andrew OHara thank you very well
Andrew can u control these bulbs only with iphone Not to buy dimmer switch?
Absolutely. As long as you have the Hub, which is what makes these bulbs connect to the Wifi, they will work through your phone.
Wich is the hub the Phillips bridge u mean? Do u have link?
sifis flisk You can get just the hub: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014H2P42K/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=maotecrev-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B014H2P42K&linkId=deb28c4e4e581da6e2c1e7cd80b0c8a9

Do you have to have that dimmer switch thing
No you can control it from the app but you will need the bridge
Will this work with hue bulbs not lux?
+Max Koon This will work with ALL hue bulbs. Whether it is the Lightstrip plus, the White & Color ambiance standard bulbs, or the disney bloom light. if it works in the Hue app, it will work with this dimmer switch!
+Andrew OHara ok thanks man!!! Then I'm getting it :D
Woo! You should use the link in the description! I mayyy get a small referral fee from Amazon for sending over. It really helps out!
Thanks!
Hey.
Can you use the APP for this product without a bridge? If yes which APP.
Regards
Flemming
Denmark.
+Stine larsen I don't think you can use an app without the bridge. The switch is simply sending the rf signal to the bulbs. When you have the bridge, it takes the rf signals and converts them to your local network, which is available on your phone. So without the bridge, you have no phone access.
+Andrew OHara Sorry to hear that. I must get a bridge next time. Thanks for your answer.
No problem!
Can you dim without the switch? I have a Philips hue bridge
Yes. Like any hue bulb.
What app do you use for this
good news folks, Philips recently updated their app with the ability to toggle scenes with the dimmer switch
no bridge needed?
To use the app you need the bridge
does it look like an LED light bulb?
No it looks like a squirrel eating a piece of cheese.
Hello! I have a question... Can you still use your old light switches to turn on and off your lights of do I have to leave it on and just use the remote to turn the lights on and off? :) Thanks!!
Yes, if you power it on/off with a normal light switch, it will automatically turn on in the bright "Read" mode as a normal bulb.
Do you have to aim at the lights when you want to put them on or off and dim? And does the dimmer also works with colored light bulbs?
+Unboxing & Gadgets by Tim Nope! You can point anywhere! And it will worked with any Hue bulbs, including color!
Andrew OHara Thanks!
Does this work with Google home
Yes!
+Jacob Shaw it should allow you to record any other hue bulbs!
Intro Music is great, but was the metronome left on on purpose? :)
Do you need WiFi to use this?
Hi! Great review!
You used Philips Hue on your ceiling lamp, right? But does the lamp switch always need to be turned on?
Unfortunately, yes it does
does this work with the amazon echo
+James Wainscott yup! If you have the bridge
does it work with amason echo
yes
What app is he using their?
Can it be a old version of the Hue app. Dont look like that today. Did a review about it and it don't look like that today.
That is just the previous version of the Hue app. I use the Hue app, and iConnectHue quite frequently
Hi. Can this be used as a physical on/off switch if I'm also using an amazon echo?
+eastdale24 yessir it can
So I have a LED light bar..no hue bulbs...and just want the light bar to be Alexa controlled....will this work for that
The con about the extra light is a bit strange.. You can also just buy the dimmer without the lightbulb..
+The Universe At the time of the review that had not released the stand alone dimmer. So you had to buy both! Now obviously that isn't the case
Why is your intro a metronome?
+Mr Skeltal Its just in the background! To be honest, the real reason is I composed the intro a number of years ago, and upgraded to a new machine in then so I don't have the original track I created to remove it. I simply left it on while working and forgot to turn it off when exporting it from Logic Pro Studio. :-/ Now I need to create another or try to look through backups for the original file!
Thanks for the reveiw
Just bought two sets and ekstra bulbs .now we just need hue white in gu10
Is that the size of the foot? That is something that i did miss when i did a review about it.
FINNALY SOMEONE ANSWERED MY QUESTION
Having to change the batteries in a light switch is really annoying. I'm not sure why they didn't make them wire into traditional light switches..
Maybe a little annoying but if you don't want to wire a switch it may be worth changing the battery once every 3 years.
I agree, this would already be in my cart if it was an actual wire-in but also bridge controllable dimmer like the Insteon.
like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, th-cam.com/users/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....
Great review!
Great review
Nice review, thanks
I just got a bulb and just realized I have to get a hub now🤦🏽♂️ rip
lmfao been there
This is not a switch its a remote
I use it a as bathroom light switch. It keeps visitors from turning off and on from the main switch. Thus not interfering with my echo control.
My phone is always near me i don’t see the point of looking for this remote
Does the dimmer work with third generation light bulbs?
Does it work with white and color bulbs?
What app do you use
good job. thanks for the review
Awesome review
Can this be used to control ceiling fan speed ?
