    Part of the reason why all Kiwis embrace Maori culture is because beautiful waiata like this are sung by all Kiwis in school assembly from as early as 5yrs old.

    I cried at this. Look at how beautiful our pacific people are when we come together as one no matter what you are...polynesian melanesian or micronesian . I could see the fijian flag and that in the crowd too

    Not only harmonies but listen to the power. You can't teach this type of singing to a crowd this big it is all natural.

    I hope people truly understand just how fantastic this video is. I truly love this video. Such pride in these folks. We can’t even get Canadians to sing the entire national anthem correctly in the right key at a NHL game and these thousands nail this. Very moving.

    MaKes my heart so happy, argh💜 was at a gig in Taupo and nobody were dancing, we got the crowd up and all of a sudden they sang this song, the whole bar erupted into song, my poor German mate didn't know what was happening hahahaha. 🤣

      Yes, it is a Maori song.
      It was a poem written by a Maori soldier to his girlfriend before he left for Europe. A long forgotten one.

    I am Pakeha and remember singing this at Primary School, I am now 54 and still knew this by heart and was singing along with the crowd. So proud to be a Kiwi where we are raised to embrace the Maori culture and respect those whose land we are on. Tu hei kotahi

    This Maori song is beautifu.! I remember singing this back in Arorangi school. This was our Assembly Song. The voice you here is the exact same voices in our school Hall🇨🇰. I miss this, Memories Man!

      It's Maori. Fiji just did a cover of it. But it was covered first (I think) by a band called the Herbs which was a New Zealand Maori band. Look them up if u haven't heard them before. But this is 100% Maori

      Fiji is the artist and he's from Fiji originally but lives in Hawaii and Las Vegas ... Fiji sings fijian, Pacific Island reggae, covers samoan, Tongan, Hawaiian songs and also featured E papa ( this Maori chant ) in one of his albums.

      Who cares where it’s from... I am Maori, 64 years, I remember singing this in church when I was young. My father was the preacher man so most of my memories as a child were of our time at Church. I have being singing this song for @ 60 years. When we sang it was from the ‘heart’. So lets just say it comes from the Heart and Soul of All Pacific People. Arohanui tangata Pacifica...
