I have learned that over 1000 Scottish Pipers died "going over the top" in WWI leading the armed soldiers on. They drew the full attention of the enemy on to themselves and they had no defence. What courage! The Scottish marching pipe bands are thrilling. Greetings from Ireland. Alba Abú!

The Black Watch were a regular army unit comprised of very hard fellows you didn’t want to antagonize.
They were not ceremonial as this group is.
