OMG! I wasn’t expecting that crash but glad to see all was okay. Great work and you go over everything and make it easy to understand and fun to watch. Keep it coming!
after reading through some of the comments on what actually caused the crash....if that roll was caused from too much motor torque, why did it roll to the right?...wouldn't the CCW spin of the motors torque cause the plane to roll left?....maybe it was a good thing thing this crash happened so quickly after take off as not much damage was done, but what would have happened in the air when you flipped that D/R switch to high rates, and that motor reversed? thanks
Yea it should have rolled to the left if that was the issue. The issue was this plane was just VERY out of trim and I couldn’t catch it in time. After takeoff it rolled right hard like I had right aileron input in. After I trimmed it out (almost full left aileron trim) it flies straight and level and takes off perfect now. For some reason this plane just wants a little extra left aileron “built in”. I always build the plane at neutral settings but that didn’t work for this one haha. As far as the DR switch making the motor go reverse in flight who knows LOL. It probably would have started going reverse thrust, stopped the plane midair, stalled the wing and crashed LOL. Then I really would have been confused!! LOL the esc has a reverse function which is cool but I never programmed the switch. I plugged the lead in so I guess it just picked a switch on it’s own. Haha. Just weird that it picked my dual rate switch.

I recently began flying the Tundra V2 model as my 2nd plane.......my problem is the motor sometimes quits after appox. only 3 to 4 min of flight time...I am using brand new 3S 2200mah 60C LiPo's and they are fine after landing ( appox. 38% left ) .......I notice the ESC does become very hot and must be shutting down the motor, but why? ...I am using all the stock parts that came with it......the big carbon fiber prop , stock motor and stock 40amp ESC from Hobbyking ...ESC is mounted along the side of the battery compartment and has plenty of air flow.... ..what am I doing wrong, as it's frustrating having to land dead stick so many times ? I have also reached out to HK support and was sent a new 40amp ESC, but the same problem persists ...thanks
Aww man sorry to hear that!! Sounds like you’re doing everything correct and it definitely should NOT be doing that at all. I like the Tundra better for a few reasons. Tundra has more power and performance out of the box. The ESC/motor/prop combo just makes more power. I also like the looks better and the landing gear is more forgiving on those hard landings. The Tundra does have some flaws though. Build quality on the Tundra is noticeably not as nice as the Bigfoot but its fine for what it is. Bigfoot the foam itself is nicer, and the fitment of parts are better on the Bigfoot for sure. The Bigfoots graphics are all real nice decals. Tundra is a combo of paint and decals and the paint sections don't completely match the decal colors. Not a big deal when you're flying but its noticeable on the bench. Also tundra comes with floats if you plan on doing any water flying. Bigfoot no floats and not even provisions on the plane to attach floats in the future so Bigfoot is a wheels only plane. Both are right around the same price i believe but IMO the Bigfoot needs some softer wheels it lands like a cement truck on those stock hard as a rock wheels. Both are good planes but in the end I like the softer more forgiving landing gear, better power system, and the looks of the Tundra better. Also the forums have more Tundra support if you ever need help. Tundra has been around FOREVER for a good reason. Bigfoot has only been around for about a year. Not trying to talk you out of a Bigfoot its a great plane its just a very different plane than the Tundra.

great content, i subscribed. i have a few good planes and want to add this plane. question: i have a spektrum dx 8, what receiver would you recommend? keep em flyin!
Hey thanks Musky! Its an awesome plane for sure. As far as Spektrum stuff I'm not real familiar with any of it. I have never owned any Spektrum branded transmitters or the like so I really cant give you an honest recommendation. However, I'm sure you are well aware that this plane is a 5 channel plane (flaps) so ideally you would need a 6 channel receiver at the very least. You would have a 6th channel available for a bomb drop or if you like ailerons on independent channels vs the normal Y harness setup you could do it that way with a 6 channel. Good Luck with it! You'll love it!
Oh nice!! Great planes!! My buddy has a turbo timber its super cool. And yes the Tundras are out of stock now. Mary wants to add the purple/gold one to our channel haha.
As a person who used to fly warbirds of the same size fairly frequently then took a few years off of flying, is this a good plane to get back in the hobby with? I don't feel confident enough to jump back in with warbirds but I want something fun to fly.
I would confidently say that if you were flying warbirds with no issues then you will have no problem at all flying this plane. I LOVE this plane. It flies great, looks great, and has great power. The big bush tires are great cause as you saw in the video you can take this plane almost anywhere and fly it around. You don't need a pristine runway by any means. Also the price is great so it won't break the bank.
@@UngluedModeler We’ve all been there once or twice. I was flying a foam Spitfire and there was a flag pole behind me. I was trying some ((fancy to me)) aerobatics and sure nuff I forgot about it. I literally forced the pole into the fuselage at full speed. Needless to say we needed a tellahandler to remove the plane😳😂
I love my tundra v2. It is fairly aerobatic and with full flaps it will fly at not much more than a walking pace. I may have a solution for the reversing motor problem. I found with my transmitter (FRSKY I6) if I assign switch A to channel 5, plug in the reverse plug to channel 5 and set the dual rates on the same switch it does exactly what yours was doing. Its strnage that you can set the switch to two functions simultaneously but there it is.. Nice video looking forward to more FDO
Interesting thanks! I actually just unplugged the reverse lead and left it unplugged haha. I have no intentions of running the floats ever or needing reverse haha. Thanks!!
@@UngluedModeler I have never plugged the reverse plug in until I saw your video and had to investigate. Like you I have no intention of flying from water. I keep thinking about using the floats to build an air boat for a bit of fun. FDO
Exciting maiden of the Tundra V2. I was looking forward to it after watching your build video of the V2. I had a question in mind to ask when you guys maiden it. That was how does the Tundra compare with the Bigfoot. But you have answered it in the video now. I am on the fence deciding between the Tundra and the Bigfoot. Both are almost the same in size and have very similar price points. So far I have comfortably flown only a small plane (UMX Timber) and being quite new to larger planes I am counting on your views. Got some good information now. Will wait to see your next video.
Awesome!! Thanks!! I would definitely recommend the Tundra over the Bigfoot. Bigfoot is a great plane don't get me wrong...BUT the Tundra just flies better and has more power IMO. In fact...I like the Tundra so much I am buying the Purple/Gold one also lol.
Hey its Matt here. Yes I do ride! Well...used to I should say. Just sold my last dirt bike (Yamaha WR250f) however I still have a Pit bike (TX160) I like to goof around on hahah. I've been injured too many times, just had to give it up due to work lol. Still love it, just slowed down alot lately haha.
@@UngluedModeler ah I knew it from the shirts you wear lol. I used to ride as well and same thing for me, work and injuries but still love it and flying planes. Keep up the great videos, I really enjoy them!
Thanks!! I think it was a little torque toll combined with it needing a huge amount of left trim dialed in. On my next battery I had to dial in ALOT of left trim to get it to fly straight and level. After the new trim setting she takes off nice and straight now!! Thanks for watching!!!
@@garyvale8347 looking at the motor it turn to the left but from behind(pilots perspective here) the motor turns to the right and he gunned it. He should have made a more gradual increase in speed and let the tail lift up naturally then lift off. You have to let the air frame catch up with the power of the motor. Now you can gun it like a stol plane can do, but you must be ready for it. I dont think he was ready for the power that motor can produce.
A bit unlucky but nice flying after all! I've just got my Tundra and will have the first flight next week - so excited! Could you please tell me what flaps/elevator mix you use? Greetings from Poland!
No problem! Thanks so much its an awesome plane for sure you'll love it!! So I run a FrSky X9D+ Taranis. I'm not sure if these values will translate over to other radio systems. But what I use as a starting point for a flap to elevator mix is 12-15% flap mix. That will get you in the ballpark usually so that you will not get a big balloon up when you deploy flaps. Oh I also sometimes put a time delay on there also. On my Bigfoot I currently have a 3.0 second delay so you get that cool slow flap deployment. Some cheaper servos don't like a time delay (the Tundra haha) so I left them at full speed on the Tundra haha. Good luck!!
@@UngluedModeler Wow, thanks a lot for such a quick response! I have a pretty basic Turnigy 9X so I will need some reverse engineering to have the mix correct, haha! I am also afraid that I do not have slow flap deployment in my Tx, but I have a preinstalled slow servos in my Durafly Corsair and I agree - they do work like a charm. Anyway, thanks and good luck to you too!
You got it no problem at all. Slow flap deployment is not necessary by any means. Just adds a cool scale detail IMO. What I noticed on the Tundra servos was they did not like the slow deploy as they would not return to neutral every time. I left them at full speed and problem solved haha.
@@UngluedModeler Hi again! You were right, this plane is excellent! I've had about 15 full flights last week and I'm in love with the Tundra. Thanks to your video I learned not to give a full throttle right from the start - I usually used about 20-30% just to get the plane moving and then quickly to about 70%. Even though I did not use full throttle the takeoff was almost vertical (with half flaps)! I just need to practice landings a bit more - I experienced some nasty prop strikes and noticed that those foamy tires have a tendency to fall off the rims causing the plane to stop abruptly (with the prop hitting the ground and turning the whole plane upside down sometimes). I also experienced the same motor issue as you had after the first takeoff, fortunately it was fine after some cleaning. Maybe it's just me - I'm used to motor gliders which can land with almost no speed, maybe I need to get used to landing with a tad more momentum. Anyway, no major damage was done, I tried some Immelmanns and barrel rolls and this plane handled like some agile aerobatic plane. Cheers!
That’s awesome!!! Good job!! This is a great plane for sure with some weird tendencies but once you learn it’s quirks it really is a solid performer. Glad I could help!!
Vortex generators is a double edge sword. Without VG the plane starts to wiggle, shake, before it stalls. WITH vortex generators goes from slow fligjt to wing drop w almost no warning, just like in real airplanes. Although, maybe, can go slower, ( dont know as I dont have V2), the downside is no significant visual pre-stall warning.
One more question Buddy. Did you ever find out why it pulled so hard to the right on your initial take off attempt. Your wind sock "wasn't" jumping around. You seem to be a competent pilot. Afterwards your throttle reversed all by its self for no reason. Maby your left, right programming switched on it's own also. Very strange.
Yeah I think just the way this plane needed to be trimmed. After I got it off the ground on the second attempt it needed almost full left aileron trim. Pretty much maxed out my trim. It lifts off perfectly straight every time now. Very strange indeed how “off” it was out of the box.
@ Unglued....I found a video and attached a link that you may find particularly interesting ... listen closely, starting at the 0:45 mark about his Tundras tendency to also have a severe right turn at take off ...... th-cam.com/video/NxpnOtd0ywU/w-d-xo.html as someone who just ordered this exact model Tundra , but has not yet arrived, can you explain how best to set up a motor reverse switch ,but without having the motor accidently go into reverse on high rates and any other helpful tips ...also I'll be sure to use high rates when first taking off, to give myself enough control authority to compensate .....thanks again
Thanks! I watched that video you sent and yeah he says the same thing that happened to our plane. Weird! It’s a great plane just be aware that it might roll to the right on takeoff and you’ll need some left aileron trimmed in. As far as motor reverse mine did that weird thing because I never set up a switch for it but I did plug the lead in to the ESC. I think it got confused because it was plugged in but not set up. All you have to do is assign a switch to the motor reverse and you’ll be just fine. Like I said I never assigned a switch I think it was just confused and assigned its own switch which happened to be my high rates switch.
Great video!! My Brushless motors always feel tight after running it's to do with the magnets but it passes after a few minutes!! Check I'll think you'll find it's always the same after you land try to spin the motor they always feel tight👍
Yeah I hear ya Ian but this was different for sure. There was a feeling of resistance. That ESC reverse lead I had plugged in was acting weird. Once I unplugged that lead the motor spun free again. It was a matter of a 30 second timeframe from when I unplugged it and spun it by hand again. All I know is that it flies great now that that lead is unplugged lol. I will not be ever putting the Tundra on floats. I have a E-flite Maule I'm gonna do a float video with one of these days!!
I have the same Tundra with the same paint Scheme at all. Mine did exactly the same thing and tore the whole nose off along with the landing gear. I glued the front end back on and put on the floats. I'm going to make a video but will have to take long my kayak just in case LOL.
Yes.....I know that lol. Always have. If you watch the video and listen to what I’m saying you’ll understand why I am confused. I DID NOT program the reverse thrust to be active. That is why I am confused. Also to add to the confusion the reverse thrust was on my dual rates switch. So between not even setting up reverse thrust in the TX and then having it on dual rates I was confused. 😀
Darren ONeill it’s all good brotha. Part of the hobby lol. But I always have known about the reverse thrust. I even talk about it in my Tundra unboxing video. I just never programmed it hence my confusion lol. I just post my experiences lol. Glad you enjoy it haha. Thanks for watching!
did you ever figure out why it likes doing hard right the second your off the ground...of all the reviews i have watched yours is the only one with this issue.
Yeah it was severely out of trim 🤷♂️. The second time I takeoff I have to dial in almost full left aileron trim to get it to fly hands off straight and level. Now it takes off and flies nice and straight. I built this plane with neutral ailerons at center trims. It likes neutral with some left aileron built in I guess. Haha
Oh and I’ve had a couple people get a hold of me saying theirs does the exact same thing. I’m thinking maybe a batch of early run V2’s had this issue? Just a guess haha
Thanks man!! Appreciate it! Definitely the Tundra over the Bigfoot. No question its the better plane all around. Bigfoot is a great plane also though no doubt. I would pick Tundra if I could only have one.
Your crashes end differently than mine. With me, after the whack there's a bit of cussing, then the walk through the weeds for the piece(s) that flew off, then comes the glue. Lots of glue. It was probably good that the first try ended as it did. If the flight had gone well it's likely that at some point you would have tried high rates at altitude, the motor would have reversed, and...yikes. I don't even want to think about it. Finding that issue on the ground was a good thing! I never bothered setting up the reverse but certainly never checked the thrust direction on both rates. I will from now on. Sounds like you were channeling Pilot Robert when you said "AILERONS!"
Yes!!! Completely agree! Discovering the high rates reverse problem in the air would have been VERY bad. OMG would have blown up the motor I bet lolol. And also YES!! Pilot Robert! Absolutely love those guys! We watch them all the time hahah.
@@UngluedModeler I think the motor would be OK, but the sudden reverse thrust might degrade its handling a wee bit! Maybe one of these days I'll get my reverse working and try it in flight to see what happens. Gonna have to get a lot of height, though. Thing will probably fall like a rock. If you haven't seen the Petrincic Brothers' vid of Blaz flying the Beaver on floats off the River Krka, you should search for that one, pour yourself a coffee and enjoy. What a couple of kooks.
Sure will be interesting either way lol. And yes! I've watched that video with them and the Beaver in the river Krka twice now actually! Those guys are soooo funny. love them
@@UngluedModeler I laugh every time Blaz zooms on random background stuff while Robert babbles, or he tells him to start cutting while he talks, then starts pulling stuff out of the box like a kid at Christmas. FYI, there's a spot out in Phase II where the road curves and there's a decent sized clear area to fly from. It's fairly round, so you can always take off and land into the wind. A good bit closer than the airport, too. There's another spot on a ridge to the north of there in a cul-de-sac. Not as big, but a deeper canyon to fly down into. Pretty turbulent down in there, but makes for some cool videos.
hahah I know!! Those guys are hilarious for sure. Me and Mary love the random zooms also. Blaz zoomed in on Roberts eyeball the other day and held it there while he was talking. So funny lol. I'll check out that spot in Phase II. On Stagecoach? Lawman?
Joe thanks! I thought it was tip stall at first also but I don't think it was. The trim was so far off for some reason it rolled right HARD. On my second take off I was prepared for the hard right roll this time. Once I got it in the air it needed pretty much FULL left aileron trim to fly straight and level. It would not not even come close to hands off flying before the trim was added. It just wanted to roll right. Now that its trimmed out it takes off very nicely every time.
Hahaha yeah I hear that often 😂. I am very lucky indeed. Mary just bought her very first plane even! We’re gonna do an episode of her opening/building it. Then I will have to buddy box with her to get her up in the air! She’s excited!

You would have a 6th channel available for a bomb drop or if you like ailerons on independent channels vs the normal Y harness setup you could do it that way with a 6 channel. Good Luck with it! You'll love it!
@@UngluedModeler thanks, i am bugging hobbyking. they are back ordered.
i have a couple cubs and a turbo timber to keep me occupied for now
@@UngluedModeler Thanks for the advice! I've missed this hobby, Trying to decide between this and a powered glider is occupying my mind
You're very welcome!! No problem at all. Its a great hobby to get back into for sure! Good luck and stay in touch!!
Murphy’s law,
You can have one tiny pole in the middle of a completely open area and it will always aim for the pole at least once in the flight.😂
Hahaha oh totally!!! 😂😂 so funny how it really is true
@@UngluedModeler
We’ve all been there once or twice.
Hahah oh wow!!! Never fails
FDO
Haha thats funny. Thanks for doing the investigating haha! An airboat would be fun for sure good idea!!
Great video, I really enjoy your channel!
Thanks for the kind words!! Really means alot to us. We love RC!!
@@UngluedModeler I noticed your husband wears motocross tshirts, does he ride??
Hey its Matt here. Yes I do ride! Well...used to I should say. Just sold my last dirt bike (Yamaha WR250f) however I still have a Pit bike (TX160) I like to goof around on hahah. I've been injured too many times, just had to give it up due to work lol. Still love it, just slowed down alot lately haha.
@@UngluedModeler ah I knew it from the shirts you wear lol. I used to ride as well and same thing for me, work and injuries but still love it and flying planes. Keep up the great videos, I really enjoy them!
haha thats awesome!! Too cool man lol. We will keep up the videos for sure we love RC and love making fun videos. Keep in touch!
very good maiden. you torque rolled at first. great job other wise.
Great Flying!
Thanks man!
Very strange indeed how “off” it was out of the box.
glad it was ok. these motor are powerful, if you yank the throttle hard it will barrel and dive. the same thing happen to my son's plane.
Yeah this plane is great. Love it. Got it all trimmed out and it flies amazing
Well at least you got it sorted👍
I have the same Tundra with the same paint Scheme at all. Mine did exactly the same thing and tore the whole nose off along with the landing gear. I glued the front end back on and put on the floats.
I'm going to make a video but will have to take long my kayak just in case LOL.
That’s so crazy yours did the same thing!!! I definitely wasn’t prepared for it.
The Tundra has reverse thrust...how do you not know that??? I love your honesty and come as you are attitude but man...read the freegn label hahaha!
@@UngluedModeler I enjoy your process man, it's comical whether intentionally or not only you know but I do enjoy the comedy
Fun video brother!!! Nice landing. This one or Bigfoot?😳👍🏻✌🏻🖖🏻
Lawman?
classic tip stall at the begining.plus you didnt even try to use your rudder. rest of the flight looked good
You are so lucky to have a wife that is interested in what you do. If my wife finds that i have been flying she starts hitting me with her broom.
Hahaha yeah I hear that often 😂. I am very lucky indeed. Mary just bought her very first plane even! We’re gonna do an episode of her opening/building it. Then I will have to buddy box with her to get her up in the air! She’s excited!
