As a Liverpool fan, if context is really taken into account, I think Brian Clough's Nottingham Forest side should have made it. Nevermind winning the league, league cup and back to back European cups, but doing it after just having being promoted from the second tier (not too unsimilar to Leicester's own fairytale if you ask me). Jose Mourinhos first Chelsea team should have made it too, IMO, those bastards won loads of trophies and were incredibly solid at the back.

Aston Villa should have been an "honourable mention". I would have included Nottingham Forrest 1977/78 to 1979/80 easily in the Top 7. Two European Cups, 1 League Title and 2 League Cups. In an era of almost total Liverpool dominance this was the only team that could stand up to and beat them. As a Liverpool fan they scared the **** out of me.

I feel Man City 2017-18, 2018-19 deserved a place in the list. They broke numerous records and finished almost 100 points in consecutive seasons, 2018 season ending 2 points short. Do agree lack of European success haunts them but they were phenomenal in domestic competitions.
Mourinho's Chelsea too deserved a place in the list. Altogether I feel the ranking system used in the video is not satisfactory as decades ago teams didn't have so many competitions running side by side and maintaining consistency got difficult especially since last decade with teams getting all stacked fixtures.

Personally think the Forest team that won the First division and 2 European Cups plus beating Barcelona in the Super Cup should've made the top 7. They knocked Bob Paisley's great Liverpool team off their perch and at the time set the record for the longest unbeaten run in English football. They were the epitome of a team and not a bunch of superstar footballers..Just my opinion though.

Man Utd fan, here, and FINALLY, we have someone actually agreeing with me that our mid 2000s team was stronger than our 1999 team. Yes, we all have fond memories of 1999, but I had never been as big a fan of the club as I was during those mid 2000s. That was probably the time in which my connection to the club was at its strongest.

One thing that isn't appreciated is how hard the league was to win in the 90s. If you dropped points it wasn't just because you played bad, but the other team played well. There have been times teams lay down and died against the title contending teams since 2000s. Hell even the season after the trebble United got worse and still hit 91 winning their last XI games. 12 points better but with a worse squad. Schmeichel out, Blomquvist, Johnsen and Brown injured all season. New signings Bosnich, Taibi, Fortune and, Silvestre were brought in. Silvestre was the best of these players brought in.
I can't say 2008 was an uncompetative season though due to the high scoring points of every team that isnt Derby County.
I like both teams for different reasons, but I do think it is harder to see the smaller teams in 08 challenging United as much as 99. Main reason is tactics as Keane and Scholes for how great they were did spend a lot of games on the verge of being overrun by stronger midfields and 99 is more a counter attacking side. By 03 they had converted to a possession 3 man midfield side and the play was different.

@elliot j the fairs cup was kind of getting serious by the time Leeds were in it, but it still wasn't as strong as the uefa cup became. Ridiculous defensive record, that still stands today I think. Back to back titles, only Ferguson had managed that at the time. Fa cup, league cup. 2 cl semis. Only lost 1 game the first title winning season. And despite what people say, the football was not that bad. Duff, robben and Cole were a sight to see on the counter. Lanpards rifles and late runs into the box, drogba bullying whole back lines on his own. Essiens world class box to box play, makelele had a whole role named after him. The best ever liverpool side for one season (not the subject of the video, but you did say the 84 was the best one season) was probably the 87-88 side. Started the season with a record (at the time) 29 game unbeaten run (completely unheard of in the ultra compeitive division 1 of the time,) and cantered to the league title, in what could have been record fashion, had they not finished with a load of draws and a couple of defeats once the league was basically over, and got to the FA cup final beating top division 1 teams all the way, before surprisingly losing to wimbledon.
The best "evidence" for this though, would be them annihilating rival league contdenders notts forest 5-0, in what many believe to be the greatest ever performance by an english side. certainly, that's what many present said, including Sir Tom Finney, who said "It was the finest exhibition I've seen the whole time I've played and watched the game. I wonder why the 87/88 Liverpool team never gets its due now when every commentator worth his salt at the time declared that team to be the best ever seen domestically? It was magical pass and move football, light years ahead of everyone else, Pep Barcelona level of beauty.

I have seen Liverpool fans of old debate between whether it was the 68 point team from 78 or the 1988 team that was the best. Never heard someone say 82-84 before even though they dominated the period. In fairness 88 had a strong squad where they added Barnes and Beardsley it would put most strong sides to the top of the league just for the firepower threat alone. I didn't even mention Alderidge who replaced Rush that season.
