Very nice video. I missed a step in the procedure and thought I had a defective unit. This helped me out in a big way. Thank you.

I like that the VXSCAN has both tone and visual detections. I was reviewing the Noyafa NF-816 but it only has tone detection.
    Well done video, thanks.

Excellent! So clear and easy to understand. Before
I found this I found the directions for another maker.
It featured a woman talking, not so clearly and with
horrible loud music! I couldn't understand what she
was saying; I needed instruction, not music. Fortunately
I found your site and I have exactly the same make
and model. You said it came with two batteries and
I had only one. Because you said it I went back and
tookl a better look at the case. Deep within I found
the second battery. If you hadn't said that I would
have made a round trip to Batteries Plus, total
cost to me for travel, fuel and battery, $13.
Thank you for a well-presented class, much appre-
ciated by Ross Murphy, of Shawnee, Kansas.

Mine only picked up wire that was visible and less than 6 ft long. Far cry from the 1000 ft at 3 ft deep. Would not recommend. Extremely unhappy.

Кабель трекеров много, будет ли он работать с замкнутыми проводами?

Just bought one of these and no it does not work. It does not track wires under the ground. I'm sending it back same day I got it.

Wouldve loved for you to show this working with what you titled the vid...UNDERGROUND wires. Lol. But still helpful nonetheless. One just has to hope it works the same with buried wires.

Sorry I don't have the logistic to dig and place a tube cover in first for a 5min review and on top of that connect a live wire.

I guess we will just have to imagine the wire is underground .

Not sure you've set that up right. The black cable is meant to be earthed in some way. I had hoped I watch this and understand what the volume on the sender does as the instructions that come with it are rubbish.

@3:58 Im trying to see better. Did you clip both aligator clips to that 1 wire?

Good question. You may not get an answer from the author unless you Subscribe . Of course, I usually don't Subscribe unless I get an answer to a question .
Maybe the black is considered a ground-connection and can be connected together (guessing).

ABOUT THE VXSCAN broken wire detector, Model FO4
After trying repeatedly to get either of the units
to turn on, I finally tried the simplest operation
of all, the flashlight! Didn't work. It was hard for
me to believe that both of the batteries were
the cause, but what else could it be? At great
expense, off I went to Batteries Plus and
purchased two more, this time for the highly
advertised ones. Great cost? Yes, 50
minutes round trip, fuel $2.20, batteries,
the best, $10.95 plus tax of $1.10, my time
spent trying to make the devices work, three
hours. Now I'm right back where I started.
After 13 years as electrical engineer and
inventor in a famous laboratory, both with IBM,
I was promoted to salesman, for 12 years.
After three years, out of 17,000 trained and
experienced salesmen and women I was in
    the top one per cent.
As a salesman I was taught two simple
rules: Make it easy for people to do business
with us, and next, as part of it, If a customer
is pleased and satisfied with our products
and service, with some luck, he may tell two
more others. If unhappy, he will tell everyone.
My cost so far on these non-working units is
135 per cent of what I paid for them.
If you can tell me why I cannot even turn on
a flashlight, I will be surprised at whatever I
    failed to do.
    Ross Murphy,
    Shawnee, Kansas.

      Top 1% thinker here too.
I always say they should hire me to read company’s instruction manuals and let them know where they need improvement. Most companies fail at writing quality instructions. Then, you have poor hardware, like you’ve experienced here. I hope the unit I ordered works ok. But if not, I’ll check the batteries first thing.

I also have a BSEE. Graduated in 2002, height of the tech bubble burst. Never worked even 1 day in the field. The stupid instructions don't tell you that the wire needs to have the power turned off before you connect to it with this device! Pathetic that someone didn't think to write that in the manual.

Not very useful video. The knob on the sender unit is power output, not volume. The unit is pretty easy to use for finding buried wires or wires inside structure. It is much hard to use to find breaks in underground wires and the included instructions are pretty confusing.

  • @bratenrock

I didn't understand your explanation . Make a new video for the academics. Starting with step by step to find the break in the wire.
