My dad watched an Evony puzzle ad, thought he could do better and now is high key addicted to the game. He plays it like 8 hours a day. I worry about him.

The only way I can even remotely tolerate ads is watching Big A. I normally run like 5 different adblockers to catch everything, and I'll even go so far as to switch to my hulu when I'm watching a show with someone at their house because the ads every few minutes fill me with rage

The monetization of that game is also so fucking wild. Like I don't know why you would buy any of the currency in the store when you can literally have exponential growth much larger than that in like 5 minutes. Plus they have a option to remove ads when I haven't once seen a ad in that game
I legit got the ad like a month ago and it became the only mobile game I have downloaded. It’s fun too

I saw big A at my local Starbucks today. He screeched horrifically at the barista for coffee and proclaimed himself as the glizzy gobbling coffee cow. He then jumped the counter and chugged a gallon of coffee and slapped a kid shortly after. It was terrifying

Seeing the vod with the Lily's Garden ads felt like a fever dream. It's so bizarre that there are so many ads that have nothing to do with the gameplay and are still effective to lure players in, using mostly the same psychological tactics (that seem to work). Was a super entertaining stream!
The flying gorilla ad campaign is also hilarious
Surprised that no one ever brings up the “game” Evertale in this situation which is a popular TH-cam game ad. The game that’s advertised actually looks good and very interesting as a Pokémon clone that I would actually play, but the game is literally nothing like the company advertises like it’s not anywhere close.

So having downloaded and played evertale everyday for probably 6 months (I've since deleted it), there's literally two games on it. The first thing it lets you play is *kinda* like pokemon, since you can catch monsters and level them up and stuff, but you really only use the various anime story characters. Then you finish that and the main game is your standard gacha autobattler.
I did find the game fun, but I deleted it because I was too hooked and knew if I kept it I'd spend money, and I'm not spending real money on a gacha game
I live in Asia, where this kind of ad is king. Literally every ad TH-cam showed me during this video was a mobile game ad with a streamer "playing" it

Lilys Garden is a knock off of the true AD king, Merge Mansion. I have never seen such disrespect… the lore Merge Mansion (MM) has is so deep compared to LG.
I was really hoping Atrioc would react to these, seeing how they’ve even done live action ads now too.
The Fire Emblem mobile games making more than the main series is definitely true.
Especially when you have certain people *cough* Alpharad *cough* spending THOUSANDS on the game for skins
Thank you for covering this, it honestly surprises me how none of this is regulated and how blatantly fake some ads are. I'm serious, they advertise a game that doesn't even exist, and I'm not even exaggerating, they will advertise a game that is actually interesting, and when you check out its store page it isn't even the same game. Scummy work

You’ve spent a lot of time with these ads, what are your thoughts on the team behind these?

I've also tried contacting them before but they seem completely unreachable in any way, shape, or form, and at this point, I'm not entirely convinced that these ads don't just appear out of nowhere with no human attachment whatsoever
My favorite by far is this game called Evertale, where all of the game ads are REALLY well fleshed out pokemon style horror ads, with a clearly planned lore about how as a trainer, you end up catching monsters and end up killing them and people, but come to find out there's no monsters, just people, and you've been on a killing spree the entire time. Meanwhile, the actual gameplay is a gacha raid shadow legends RPG without a single horror element in the game, and no reference to any of the horror trailers. It's insane to me.
There is a single connecting thread: The yandere maid that occasionally gets to show up in the ads is in fact a murderous yandere maid
What makes Evertale worse is that its like 2$ to join on the store, I snuck in when it was free once to check and immediately went "Yup this is lame, done this all before in better games"
the apology ad is the equivalent of
"my biggest weakness is im such a perfectionist"

Some of these ads made me physically cringe so hard to a point where I had cramps. However, the Lily's Garden series was riveting
WE NEED A PART TWO WITH MERGE MANSION! litterally it's a puzzle game ala Lillys Garden with a murderous grandma and they made an irl ad with Kathy Bates. That was fecking hilarious.
Also bitlife is actually a mobile game where the ads actually show the game, but also BitLife is nearly only one time purchases.
Big A should do an ad for his channel but filled with all the inside memes like Coffee Cow and Glizzy Hands
i spent about $1500 on top war, i can confirm the ads for it you will never find anything like it in the game
Hi there! I actually grew up playing Evony with my dad. It's the only time I've seen him be obsessed with a game, he'd play it so often that I wanted to do it too. So imagine my HUGE whiplash that the game I used to spend days on at a time was advertising on TikTok as if they were on of those dumb puzzle ads.
Evony is basically a city builder and defender with a huge focus on building your guild of other players. I hate those games nowadays but Evony stayed nostalgic lol.
Watched the whole thing forwards and backwards, great work Big A your best one yet
the funny part is that the game at 4:31 is a game called Kings of Avalon not Evony, so in reality Evony and their ad was false advertising and then they literally ripped a screenshot from another game and said its their own lmao

I see the "Top War Game" ads all the time, and I think it shows an issue with how targeted ads work; I think I see them so often because I watch a lot of Grand Strategy content - which, of course, involve war. But if I know about all these other, far greater games, why would Top War Game be at all appealing to me? Especially since the ads look even worse than the actual gameplay.
It's kinda a shame. Mobile games *can* be great - just look at the Infinity Blade trilogy (before being removed from the App Store because it didn't make enough money to warrant continued updates, and then the lawsuit between Epic and Apple happened). Genuinely fun gameplay, a really interesting story (with a couple books by Brandon Sanderson), and one of my favourite soundtracks. (Including a song made for IB3 by Imagine Dragons, though my favourite part of the soundtrack is the battle theme of Ryth - which is clearly based on Duel of the Fates.)

Unironically, one of my favourite mobile game ads is the one with TheLegend27, it is a bit dated compared to these, but it was a pioneer in its genre, and I respect its legacy

As a 9 year old kid, my friend and I played evony religiously. I mean like way way too much. Over my 4 years playing I was in the top 10 on my server. The game back then I believe still exists in some form, but the devs kept making changes that made the grinding process to progress a lot of things almost entirely requiring purchases. It was a real-time city building game like clash of clans but more late 90s classic pc game style, train troops, upkeep troops, guilds and wars. The game was really good and fun, and truly sparked my love for small game communities; and set up my unending rage watching money ruin the game. It started getting extremely overrun by bots, but the devs didnt care cause the people running these bots were whales, spending 2k on average per bot. I knew a guy who had a whole 100 person alliance of only his own bots for farming and transporting resources to his main, filling the area all around himself so no one could reasonably attack. Oh how I wish to play the game again in a pure form. Makes absolute sense that they went on to do all the games and ads they do now.

ive played evony for the puzzles, they do exist but you have to upgrade to play more of them, and yeah, theyre pretty easy. never even touched the main game, you get so much free time skips i just bought a ton of upgrades to play more puzzles lmao
I wanna see a wwe ( or f) style show where all members of the bad ads VS the good ads fight, id pay good money from my minimum wage job to see that, Yes Atrioc!
I know he's ye ol' glarketer and all that, but I can't imagine actually hopping online looking for some content and not mentally blocking every single ad that gets in front of me. Like when he showed that puzzle game ads I recognized it, but I couldn't have told you what happens in 'em if you put a gun to my head. It doesn't even cross my mind to actually see what the ad is about, the second I know what it is my mind instantly dips and I look at something else. I guess that's why he's the expert.

As a fire emblem fan, the Heroes game is actually decent quality and translates the original games into a mobile format fairly decently. Though I’m likely biased because they give my fav characters beach outfits lmao

A roblox game recently got sponsored my illumination to promote the new minion movie, not Roblox, but a game on roblox.
I just find it interesting how roblox is getting big enough to were big companies sponsor teams of develepors (a lot of who are probably kids/teens)

fun fact that I learned is that a lot of those mobile game ads that are nothing like the actual games are actually prototypes. basically mobile game companies come up with a simple premise and see how much attention it can get from that style of game and if it gets enough downloads or clicks ONLY THEN will they start to make the game. Its super wack
