@@stokes8762 The mighty Liverpool couldn't beat us who won the European cup in consecutive seasons even players like Alan Hansen said we were a good side plus remember the 42 match unbeaten run in the league and we went 13 matches without losing in the European cup which ties the record with Real Madrid we were the only provincial club to ever win the European cup what this side achieved in such a short period of time will never be beaten.
worst decision by the directors sacking Mackay..i think it was shortly after a 8-2 win against spurs..there were enough good players in the team to turn it around
My understanding is that the Board decided to approach Clough and make him an offer. Upon learning of this, Mackay did the only thing he could do with any dignity and resigned. The rest is history.
The only bright spot of a disastrous end-of-season run-in for the Rams which commenced with Charlie George's injury. But who would have thought it would have continued into the following season too. Enter Tommy Doc the season after and the championship-winning team were flogged off on the cheap, to be replaced by a load of mediocrity... and alas relegation to the second division and then to the third was not too long in coming,
Nothing riding on this game. Town were guaranteed to finish sixth whatever. Doesn't excuse their performance though. You look at all six goals: they just can't be bothered. Their minds were already on their hols. Credit to Derby, they actually put effort in and deserved the win.
Derby decline was forest's gain league title by 7 clear points, 42 matches unbeaten, 2 European cups, 1 super cup, 2 league cups all in the space of 4 years and to take a team that was really struggling and turn it into a team winning the European cup in consecutive years is an achievement that can never be bettered.

Ipswich blew the title the previous season and so did Leeds in 71/72 I prefer winning European cups which my team did twice.
