Christmas 2012: #5 Tattered Poinsettia Cover Tutorial

- Its time to decorate our vintage book cover...and I decided to use Tim Holtz's Tattered Poinsettia Die and Embossing Folder. Using them together creates GORGEOUS flowers. I am also sharing a really cool technique with Distress Crackle Paint (Rock Candy-clear) and Dry Distress Glitter. I think they end up looking like vintage porcelain flowers. We will use several other techniques to create the foliage that help make the cover design cohesive and visually pleasing.

Thank you Nancy! Your creativity will certainly kick into gear! I think some of my greatest ideas come from trying to figure out how to use what I HAVE to create an idea in my mind! Can't wait to see what you do! Hugs! Blessings, Jann
Thanks Janice - It was fun to make...and I was really impressed with how well the die and embossing folder work together! Definitely going to be looking for other products that are designed to work together like this in the future! Have a great week! Blessings, ~Jann

Thank you Norah…for some reason, I just now saw your sweet comment! I so appreciate your encouragement! I love Poinsettias too…they just put me in the Christmas mood…and for some reason I have been drawn to pink ones more than usual for the past two years! Love that I can make them whatever color my heart desires! Have a great week!
That is just beautiful. I have not ever seen or heard of the embossing folder for the poinsettia die. I have the die now you made me want the embossing folder. Thank you very much, I love it.
Just found your video. Thank you for such a well detailed tutorial. I have this die set and have been using different textures of paper to create thes poinsettias. It is really addictive. I also use Tattered Angels glimmer mists. Love the sparkle effect. Tyfs
It is such a fun die to use and they make such a beautiful variety of flowers! Thanks for stopping by and have fun creating! 💗
I think you have BRILLIANT plan for creating your own embossing template...absolutely brilliant! Love your creativity and your spirit of - "what do I already have that I can use!" Seriously creative soul! Know yours will turn out gorgeous! Thanks for sharing your idea...I am going to have to try that on some other projects...cause I'm with you - I don't have the budget to get ALL the goodies I see and want! TFS!

Camille

Jann your cover is beautiful. Thanks for the great tutorial on making the flowers. You have inspired me to find an old book and make something similar. Great series.
Debbie
Thank you! You are going to have the BEST time with your die...I couldn't stop - I've made them in all shades between Red, Pink and Cream! I am at the point I am LOOKING for things to put them on...LOL! Have fun and thank you for stopping by!
Thank you Carm! What a lovely compliment! I have fallen in love with the combo of the two together...in fact last night I used gel medium to add some book pages to the watercolor paper - and am anxious to see how they turn out using this similar technique...Have fun creating...and again, thank you for your encouragement - it means a lot to me!
Hi Jann, love this cover and that die is just fabulous. I have added that to my Christmas list and can't wait to get it. So much texture in the poinsettas and you explain everything and make it sound so easy. Thank you so much . Joynana
All I can say is "Awesome". Had to go immediatley to buy some distress paint rock candy. Love this alot.
Jan, This is BEAUTIFUL! You did a fantastic job explaining the process. TFS. xo Melissa
Omgosh!!! I just found your site whilst browsing and this is just absolutely beautiful. I'm blown away. I will definately be trying this. Now I cant wait to spend some quality time with your other 119 videos. Thank you so much for sharing this. I need to find the embossing folder so I'm off to trawl the internet. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G xxx
Absolutely wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love every tiny bit of it!
Thanks Brigitte! It was a blast to make - and I appreciate you all being patient with these LONG tutorials! Have a great week! Blessings, ~Jann
All I can say is .... WOW!!! Love the whole project that you've shown. I can't afford the die or the embossing folder but what I thought of doing was to outline a sketch of the flower and leaf with a hot glue gun. When it cools, I could use it as an impression for the flowers and leaves and put it through the Bigshot! I'm thinking that could work!!! However, love what you've done and thanks for inspiring me. TFS
What a beautiful cover! Wow! You go girl!!!
Gorgeous. Very Christmasy. My mother would have appreciated something like this on her coffee table at christmas time.
I think it would look lovely there as well! I love having several of my December Daily albums nestled in with my other decorations at Christmas time. Family and friends can pick them up and browse through them if they want to - and there are lots of nights that the last thing I do before I turn out the tree lights, is to pick one up and remember past Christmas seasons...I even catch my son looking at them when he doesn't think anyone is watching! *smile*
Jann Gray I love standing with only the christmas lights on and just look at the warm hopefulness of the holidays. Holidays to me is memories. Thanks so much for sharing this. I'm going to try something similar for our tables this year. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks Trish - it was SO fun to create!
Gorgeous! I adore the work you did on these poinsettias! Tfs.
Ohh Jann...absolutely beautiful!! I've seen the products you used,but...wow! what a wealth of info too! TFS and inspiring me to new possibilities!! hugs, Sunni
Jan, I just watched your video and I loved it so much. I'd been looking for such a tool that would make the poinsettias look realistic. The combination of the die & embossing folder does the trick. I love the techniques you shared on making the poinsettia's look so beautiful. In fact I loved the cover and all of the techniques you used. This video is like a companion to the TH die and embossing folder. I'm definitely adding it to my "stash" of videos that I refer back to. TFS, Hugs Carm.
I love the flowers. So beautiful.
I bought the die cut and the embossing folder , and made a card with your technique. I would like to send you the picture. Thank you for sharing your talent with us !

Miss Jann, i first seen y'alls tutorial about a year ago, loved it so much that i tried to buy the dye right away, but was told it was discontinued! Well I finally found one about a month later, to my great relief let me tell ya!! I'd already bought the embossing folder that goes with it, and i love em! All because of you and y'all's gorgeous tutorial. Tfs! Laurie Sue.
Thank you Melissa! I had such fun creating them - glad it didn't get all "muddled" in the editing!
Oh Jann I learned a lot form this video. A visual triangle. That was so helpful. I am working on a journal and I want to cluster flowers and I just was struggling. This was so helpful. I need more lessons on layers and flow. This is amazing! Thank your.

Gorgeous, gorgeous, GORGEOUS, my friend! I must figure out how I can use what I have to duplicate this...until I can buy the die and folder! Your cover is absolutely FABULOUS, and did I mention that it's gorgeous too? Thank you very much! :o)
I love love love this so much! You're one brilliant creative lady! TFS!
+StampinupNederlands Awww...thanks! I hope you try it for yourself!
I would love to try that although my poinsettia is not the same as yours.
+StampinupNederlands Does yours come with a die? Before I got this version, I did a lot of fussy cutting and was able to get similar results...try it and see if it works for you!
It's the reason for the season stamp set and festive flower builder punch from stampin'up!
Jann, this is the most elegant, beautiful Christmas card. I have subscribed your channel and am looking forward to making this flower, just as soon as I purchase the supplies. I am going to work at this flower and see if I can do it. Thank you so much for your excellent tutorial, and showing me what can be with products you have highlighted.
Thank you Terri for your kind words of encouragement! I know you will have fun creating these for yourself! Let me know how it goes!
Love it !! You do great work. TFS !
Joined your channel. Love your work.. amazing job on these flowers.
Thanks for subscribing to my channel…and thanks for your kind words about the poinsettias…they are super fun to make - I've recently done a new video showing another way I used the same die/embossing folder combo - but finished them up a bit differently.
Thank you! It is a really fun project to be working on!
Thank you Sybil! I have to say that this may be one of my favorite "flower" techniques I have ever tried...so worth the "extra" few steps. Thanks for hanging with "hyper bunny" - I realized it would be Easter if you all had to watch it in "real time" - so I opted for voice over and speeding my hands up! Hope you are having fun working on your Christmas cards!
Thia was amazingly beautiful!!
Thanks so much -- appreciate your encouragement!
Violet - I think I got the embossing folder at Bluemoon Scrapbooking or Ellen Hutson! I am pretty sure they both carry it!
Why thank you! It was fun to work on for sure!
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
Oh yeah! This is one of my favorite product combo's because it gives you so much more detail from the die cuts...I know you will enjoy it too! Thanks for subscribing!
Beautiful!
