    I did get the new sram t-type XX LS and after installation and riding I have few findings. The shifting under load I don’t like is the fact that the shifting only takes place when the chain is in a certain position. Now this can be crucial as it will slow you down. As a racer you want immediate shifting and a lag can cost you seconds. The shifter I found it more cumbersome that the previous generation. It would had been nice for sram to include in the box the second mounting option as a part of the set. Never the less, I have build bikes with xx1 axs, new sram t-type, and shimano XTR. Personally despite the technology shimano XTR crankset, well everything looks classic and much nicer. Not to mention the shifting on my XTR once it is dialed it is flawless. For me, shimano still outperforms sram not but much but still. Not saying sram is bad. You can not go wrong with either one.

    Man, so sorry to hear about your Yeti. I tore my rotator cuff and will be off the bike until at least November with a long road ahead filled with surgery, rehab and pain... neither of our stories are great! My Chameleon isn't a UDH bike so it's a non starter, but even if it were, I'd be skipping this new design. I'll be living though you vicariously this riding season!

    • @RomanE_____
      @RomanE_____ ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jamble7k my thoughts exactly. New XX flattop chains cost more than 140€ in Germany, when road AXS chains are like 23-45€ on the sales. The main issue that i see is the length, road chain are shorter (120 max). You will have to buy 2 chains and extra quick link to run road chain on mtb.

    I have the XTR12 drivetrain combined with an AXS Derailleur. I still think the XTR cranks are the most beautiful cranks out there so I'm hoping I can still use them and ditch the XO Transmission cranks I'm going to receive today. I'll also be testing cross-compatibility between the XTR12, AXS and Transmission with some little hacks I've though of to cope for the 52 vs. 55mm chainline.

      @@LoveMTB That's what I figured. I think a 52 Chainline might even be better for the sort of riding I do. I rarely use the 10s cog and on the uphill side it's so steep around here that the lower gears are the ones I mostly use. Well really cool video once again thanks for all the work you do!!! And concerning the new drivetrain well I'm sure it will shift amazing and all but one thing that I loved about SRAM in the past is that their stuff just looked so cool and with the new transmission I'm torn between it looking a bit 60es architecture (sort of wanna be modern and fresh) and down right ugly... I know looks are subjective but if you factor in that for the price of the XX SL you can almost buy a Canyon Neuron CF 8 or save around 300 Euros and get the Neuron 6 with the aluminium frame, well that is simply crazy... And finally the question in my mind is what is going to break first the rear mac or the frame since there is no more derailleur hanger...

    • @LoveMTB
      @LoveMTB  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You bring up some valid points...

They market it that this new "transmission" would not be possible without a new chain or cassette; but that's just to force the early adopters to buy the full kit. I am sure they could have used a universal chain, cassette, and chainring for this release, but chose not too... so for that reason I am really hesitant to buy so fast.

    Potential mistake in your video. Zero Friction Cycling and Modern Bike state that the largest 3 gears are aluminum. “Fully machined, hardened steel X-Dome architecture for gears 1-9 and an ultra-lightweight, all-aluminum Spider Cog for gears 10-12.” From your video it looks like those last 3 are a different material. Are you able to tell?
    If so, as Zero Friction Cycling pointed out, that would be a big downgrade in durability.

    The weight difference is marginal. Was expecting sl to be much lighter

      XX SL, their race kit is a bit lighter than XX but imagine under 100g no more, more like 50

      The video showcased the XX, not the XX SL. The latter is the top tier weight weeenie drivetrain for XC racers.

    No reason to waste money on this if you ask me. This will be forgotten about after a year or two. Plus the cost of it is ridiculous

    I have mixed feelings about the drivetrain. I'm unhappy that they downgraded X0 to GX level. So the lineup looks like this XXSL > old XX1 XX> old X01 X0 > GX. The thing I hate the most about the drivetrain is no black chain with hollow pins. I also believe new casssettes seem to be a major downgrade (9 vs 11 cogs machined from 1 part) apart from gear spacing. Perhaps machining is different as well to make shifting better. New shifter seems also to be half-baked cause it doesn't support matchmaker and it's quite bulky.
    On the other hand I think I like new rear mechs which fix alignment issues (hanger etc.) though I believe frame quality checks will have to be stricter. I also love new X0 cranksets.
