On May 3, 2023, two small drones exploded over the Kremlin. Although damage was minimal, the location made it an important development in the war. But who was responsible? This video explores the three main possibilities, the motivation for each, and the evidence available.

Doolittle's B-25's did not return to the carrier because it would "reveal the location of the fleet". They did not return to the carrier because there was no way to land a B-25 on one. Only (just barely) take off. It was always going to be a one-way trip - perhaps to China, perhaps not. It highlights the daring of the mission as well as the bravery of the pilots and airmen who flew it.

    • @girthquake1413
      @girthquake1413 ปีที่แล้ว +37

They were also originally planning to hand the B-25s over to China (I think the KMT) in exchange for helping the soldiers, which is another reason they were used. Obviously, failing to get to the runways let alone deliver the bombers also made it very hard for the crews to survive, its kind of shocking as many made it out as they did. I swear one even fought with Mao and the Communists for a time because they just couldn't get him back to the US fast enough.

They potentially could have landed them in the water or ditched the aircraft and parachuted into the water, and then they could be picked up by the carrier or another ship nearby, so "revealing the location of the fleet" was still definitely a concern and a major reason why they didn't

If you look at the drones used, they are very short range. It means that they were probably launched from within Moscow itself. That means either a incredibly risky mission with zero chance of success by the Ukrainians, a risky missin with zro chance of success by Russian resistance or a mission with high chance of success by Putin himself.

Having been Air Defense in the US Army, I can very easily see a drone making it through a more traditional Air Defense zone. If you aren't specifically defending against drones, most modern static systems are going to be nearly worthless in defending against them. You might be able to detect them, if they're flying high enough, but you're not going to be able to hit them. The usage of consumer style drones is the biggest shakeup in the Air Defense world in decades.

As with the pipeline attack, though even moreso, I think it's an error to not consider non governmental actors (terrorists). People, with no or limited ties to any government, that try to take matters into their own hands. Russian dissidents, Russo-ukrainians, ukrainians from occupied territories, ukrainians slipping through borders, third party actors such as polish russophobes, there are many possibilities.
This would explain a lot in this specific case. For example, if Ukrainian hotheads from Melitopol had decided to make it to Moscow with a drone and an improvised bomb, they very much could have decided to attack the Kremlin, without actually knowing when Putin is actually there. And it would be very difficult to defend from this kind of attack.

The bird is associated with fire, belligerence, new beginnings and the dawn after a dark night. Its crowing was once believed to have magic power which caused evil night-time spirits to lose their strength. In some parts of Ukraine carved wooden roosters are attached to the roof of buildings to protect them, and rooster motifs can be found embroidered on garments and towels."

In the context of air defense systems, missile systems like s400 in the Patriot aired fan systems are better for larger targets, moving at higher altitudes and smaller numbers. The moment you have larger numbers and low altitude, especially with drones, the effectiveness of air defense system goes down. For instance, when Kiev was attacked for 20 to 30 drones, it had an 80 to 90% success rate in intercepting the drones and missiles. Increasing that number to 120 to 150 decreases into the effectiveness rate isup to 50% and 60%. This is data gathered from earlier attacks in the winter. The independent variable that has to be taken into account is that there were less air defense systems in the winter time having less coverage.

A theory I've been thinking about is that the attack was done by Ukrainian drone operators acting independantly.
    a) Ukraine's drone groups were formed at the start of the invasion as far as I remember, and it makes sense, given the dynamic nature of the conflict, that they act with a degree of freedom.
    b) The way this attack played out feels like a one-upping challenge. There were two drones, and we got to see the second strike about half an hour after the first. The blast was before the flag pole, which could point to no real intention to do damage, but made me think of a flight simulator-like challenge in which you must reach a place. In this case, the operator must have wanted to reach the pole against an unknown timer for an eventual AA retalliation. You want to score before that happens, and detonating close enough to the pole would be a valid score. The operator must have been holding their breath before pushing the button in those last few seconds, and didn't wait till the drone made contact.
This would explain why nobody is taking the blame. Ukraine would love to spit on that flag, but Kiev doesn't want to admit the chance that some parts of its military can do this kind of things if they are fighting against the West's fears of an escalation.
Mind you, this would signal some level of independence within the AFU, but not fragmentation like Russia's forces.

Bullshit, afaik nordstream is at 70m depth. Nordstream is accesible to recreational tec divers. It's not rocket science to stick some plastic explosives on there. Hell you could get away with a bounce dive if you're feeling a bit suicidal but there are enough divers out there who would attempt that on single tank.

on cnn on may 3rd. In an exclusive interview, Ilya Ponomarev told CNN’s Matthew Chance that "it's one of Russian partisan groups," adding that "I cannot say more, as they have not yet publicly claimed responsibility."
I saw this guy actually saying he had been contact with the people who did. Look it up.

    1. I find it interesting that the explosion didn't even seem like an explosion... More like a light pyrotechnics display that wouldn't have done more then superficial damage even if it was a direct hit to the dome.
    2. It wasn't a direct hit, and I don't think it hit at all... You could argue that it was set to go off at a given coordinate, but it seems much more likely that someone was watching and detonated the drone manually.
    3. Why were people on the roof? Did people get communications crossed and accidently have people on the roof early to ensure that any potential fire was out quickly. Similar to CNN commenting on Building 7 going down prior to it actually going down, while building 7 was still standing in the Video displayed behind her?
To me it adds up to Russia being the culprit? In the hope of drumming up Patriotic Support. Although I don't think it worked very well.

The symbolic meaning of the single T-34 tank on the parade could be that this one was the "best" tank in the great patriotic war which they managed to beat the nazi Tigers with? Maybe? Just a guess :)Btw. I appreciate your work. Really insightful content :)!

Personally, there is a possibility of a 3rd party/nation playing a hardball version of "Let's You & You Fight". What other nation or group would benefit from Russia escalating? I can think of 2 or 3. Can you?

The sheer brazenness of Russia calling this fireworks display "an unacceptable escalation", after having indiscriminately bombed Ukraine for a year and a half, is just mind boggling. 0:20

That attack was not an attempt to assassinate putin because those two small drones were not able to do any damages to the building, except perhapse to break a window. Not to mention that there is common knowledge that putin is never there at night. So, the attempt may have various reasons but not assassination.
