As an outsider, i don’t get the emotion of this rivalry but it’s interesting drama. OSU/fans definitely take it more seriously IMO than Michigan/fans, generally speaking. Two different kinds of people. The entire state of Ohio seems more invested, where the state of Michigan has two schools/fan bases: Michigan State and Michigan, so it doesn’t seem as important to an entire state, hence less emotional.
@@tokr72 Hes exactly right. Ohio St doesnt have a natural in-state rival to take it out on like Michigan does with MSU, so OhioSt and its fans channel all of that energy into The Game.
@@jessev5761 I suggest you research the history of the rivalry. It goes back deep, back to the origins of the game. The Ohio State/Michigan game is a season unto itself.
You’re exactly right… but my only rebuttal to that is you’re telling me ND doesn’t pay their players? Or am I missing something and they are the only D1 school who doesn’t pay their players? 😆
Taylor Lewan outed the Sec a long time ago on his pod. Played with someone at bama. Said the sec used to auction the best players from the south and that the home state school would get a chance to give best offer. How the ncaa let that happen for years scot free is beyond me.
No, actually no it doesn't, and if your part of the problem....maybe take a cold shower and a long look in the mirror, get your life in order and stop worrying about a game you were never capable of being a part of.
@tekepenguin1981 I’m a sensible OSU fan on the side of needing to move on after that loss, but the rivalry truly is deeper than the game. It is rooted in a border war (The Toledo War) dating back to 1835.
When the greatest coach of all time, who coached many games in the historic rivalry of the Iron bowl, is criticizing other rivals for having a psychotic obsession with each other, that proves the game is greatest rivalry
Buckeye fan here and it’s rich for Saben to say what he did. If Bama lost to Auburn four years in a row, Saben (anyone) would be fired and the state of Alabama would have imposed the health penalty (if they could 😂).
Hey Saban, when the head coach is making 11.4 million and I’ve got to pay $1000 just to go watch a game, I expect a tremendous performance, not a bunch of guys who look like they’ve never seen a football before. Don’t get mad at the fans, get mad at the crap-bag coaches who are milking their fans , like when you lost to a far less talented Auburn or A&M team.
Imagine spending thousands of dollars to watch teens and young adults play a game and then getting mad when said teens and young adults don't perform up to your arbitrary standard. Then imagine taking this disappointment and turning it into death threats. Every fanbase has unhinged lunatics in it, but it certainly seems that Ohio St. has a much higher percentage than anyone else, especially within the context of them still competing for National Championships virtually every other year. Michigan has truly broken this fanbase, and it's incredible.

I often ask myself a deep, introspective question: As a Michigan fan, would I trade a win over Ohio State to make a deal with the devil for a national championship? Honestly, I’d still prefer beating Ohio State. Am I out of my mind?
Coach Saban showing a little bit of that subtle wicked sense of humor like Bill Belichick. We didn’t realize both these men are more than stonefaced robots.
That's pretty much why Saban was brought to Alabama in the first place. They were on a four year slide. Maybe Saban should talk about that because his memory is a little fuzzy in his old age.
I’m an OSU fan. Michigan game is just another game to me now. With the playoff and the fact bowl games don’t mean anything anymore… all that matters is making the dance.
They call it The Little 8 and Big 2 for a reason. Often times the game that determines whether you go undefeated and play in a championship or go to just another bowl game.
The CFP knows the seating for this 12 team playoff is BS. The Oregon vs Ohio State game is exactly what they wanted. 2 of the top 4 teams playing in the quarterfinals, guarantees higher ad sales for next year’s CFP.
Simple. Conf winners get auto playoff bid. Then rank best 8 that aren’t conf winners + conf winners. They can even milk a show ranking them for ratings lol
Nick Saban coached at Ohio State so he knows all about this rivalry. E$ecPIN pays Saban a lot of money to talk. What he thinks and says has no bearing on Ohio State or its fans.
@tokr72 Before you call someone a liar you should at least use Google to check your facts. Saban was on the Defensive Staff at Ohio State for 2 seasons. He replaced Pete Carroll who got a job at NCST.
I’m one of the biggest Ohio State fans out there and I could really care less about Michigan they’re in the rearview mirror. I’ve got bigger and better goals. I don’t see why people make a big deal about regular season games and rivalry week.
Nick Saban is 100% right, Ohio Sate Fans do have a Psychotic Obsession with Michigan! Even the OSU Podcasters talk about Michigan ALL year round, whereas Michigan Podcasters simply talk about OSU when that game rolls around. Lastly, he coached at OSU so he knows for a fact and from experience!

Ohio State fan here .. Ohio State has put Michigan far too high on a pedestal. You can hate them, but don’t turn them into something so outrageously larger than life. The town is a bit over-the-top about Michigan. I get it. I like a lot of the stuff that goes around that week, but sometimes it gets a little bit too much with the crossing out of the Ms everywhere is one example. Ryan Day seems to turn into a different guy when he plays them . He becomes incredibly tense. I say play them like you do every other team that you play. You can hate some more but don’t make it too over the top with the obsessiveness and putting them on a high pedestal.
I don’t need your mental health diagnosis Nicolas, thank you. Every loss hurts. Especially after my Stillers keep letting me down while Pat Queen can’t find the TE
Y’all don’t get it. Look at regular season rating every year The Game is Top 3 in viewers. If it’s just us Ohio and Michigan people watching that’s just another point for that game means more.
I guess OSU fans are living rent-free in Saban's head! Seems like Saban has an unusual obsession with Ohio State fans. Even I know Ohio State - Michigan rivalry is vicious! Michigan fans cry and throw tantrums when they lose to Ohio State. Saban needs to do some research on this particular rivalry before commenting on it further.
And they say it means more down south LOL This is the biggest rivalry in cfb by far. You CANT lose to michigan 4 straight years. Saban cant fathom it because the iron bowl is a Mickey mouse rivalry
It's in really bad taste how the whole of ESPN does all they can to belittle everyone but the SEC and does all they can to promote them. Example: The entire week we heard how SMU and Indiana didnt belong in the playoffs but no one at ESPN mentioned Tennessee who had the worst loss of all. Indiana played OSU better than Tennessee. The hypocrisy is extremely annoying.
Totally agree with Saban. Alot of Ohio State fans don't see the bigger picture or prize at the end of the tunnel. Ik we have been losing to Michigan. Don't worry. It won't last forever. Get over it. National Title is the biggest prize in the game. The players have obviously gotten over it after what they did to Tenn, now the fans need to do so as well. Go Bucks!!
Nick is a winner, and he is more like Ditka and Bobby Knight. Saban is nothing like Ryan Day. And when Nick tries to side with Ryan, and standing in opposition to loyal fans, it puts me in the mind of and older brother who defends his baby sister. Ryan does not need to be protected by Nick and his influence, Ryan simply needs to win big games...SIMPLE....Then the problem is resolved.
Are you kidding? They can transfer at will and play right away. Also this is just one year, there’s plenty of years like this in the past. Maybe there’s more parity but we certainly don’t know that now. 2007 would have had you fooled.
Everyone acts like we didnt have blowouts before the playoff. Its not the size of the tournament thats the issue. Its the bias in ranking them. Read that back again and absorb it.
I think Michigan has sparty to balance them out, it helps them vs OSU lately. OSU has no one else but Michigan and yea id say it's unhealthy. Ive been at Michigan Ohio state games, where all I saw was unhealthy behavior from Ohio state fans. Saban is right
@Jleed989 exactly there are other factors. I think some of the Ohio state fans literally base their self worth and existence over this game. Michigan is such a prestigious school that even the players have different things they can focus on outside of football. For Ohio raised fans they've got 0 it's their whole identity
As an OSU fan for 50 years I seem to be an exception. I'd take a Natty over a UM win every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Since 1948 OSU has more national championships than UM. It's not close. Bo Schembechler never won a Natty. It will be interesting to see if the Bucks can beat the Ducks. Oregon is really good.
Michigan fan here, Saban is right. Look, OSU has nobody but Michigan as a rival. They have a thing with Penn State, which I love and I hate that they aren't playing each other every year, but for some reason the Big Ten doesn't as they didn't protect that game. I don't know why. I think they should as I think OSU, UM and Penn State should all play each other every year. But UM has OSU and they have MSU and when Notre Dame didn't chicken out, they had them and they have Minnesota, which most times isn't a thing but sometimes is. OSU has been outrageously obsessive with Michigan since the losing streak of the 80's . Michigan is all OSU has. Its great when they are winning, but when the lose a couple in a row, its an unhealthy obsession.
He’s a coach first. I think he’s speaking to the fans on behalf of Ryan. It’s “The game” for a reason but don’t let Michigan stop OSU from doing bigger and better. The game isn’t bigger than a Natty.
The fact that he continues to defend Alabama recruiting tells you they were dirty in recruiting. Honest people don’t need to even say it a second time.
Naw they did it the right way..We woulda had SMU vs indiana and the winner woulda played boise state it would’ve just given the bad teams a better chance at making the championship game…They did the right way now there’s only really good teams and good games left..All the bad teams are out..
Nick Saban is Following the ESPN Script. He Doesn't Believe what he is Saying. Nobody was more Competitive than Nick Saban! If he Only Beat Auburn 1 time while he was coaching Alabama he would maybe have won 1 National Championship 🏆 and he would have been Fired!!!! Ryan Day has beat Michigan once!!!! Lost 4 times in a Row. That is Not OK! Ryan Day originally said when he was first Hired he Knows that his 1st Priority as Head Coach at Ohio State was to Beat Michigan! He said he Knows it and Understands that it is Necessary and Expected to Remain the Coach at Ohio State. John Cooper was 1-9 against Michigan and he Didn't accomplish Anything as Ohio State's Head Coach!!!! No Ohio State fan wants another John Cooper!!!! If a Michigan head Coach went 1-4 against Michigan State that Head Coach would be Fired! You have to be at least 2-2, 4-4 against your #1 Rival to remain Head Coach. ESPN Hates Ohio State it is All SEC!!!! This Video is Pure Propaganda!!!!
I see your point, Saban… there’s nothing rational about it. That’s football my friend! Muck Fichigan lmao! I am very excited to see Ohio State go bowling yet again. I was pissed about UM when it happened, but that was a month ago. Life goes on
He’s not wrong but he also doesn’t understand this rivalry. And Herbstriet has clearly forgotten what The Game means to those of us in Ohio and Michigan.
These same old heads will cry about how there are no real rivalries anymore and attack fans for lacking sufficient enthusiasm for home field advantage, so which is it?
Michigan versus Ohio State is the national championship! Michigan and Ohio State if they wanted to can be the best teams every year, especially with the new NIL! So even though Michigan not in the playoffs, if Ohio State wins the national championship, Michigan is still the best team
Saban is upset with Gillis' joke because the joke was true. Alabama was paying players against the rules of the ncaa at the time and everyone knows it. You don't get that defensive if you are clean and clear.
@jessev5761 If you don't think sabin knew and was involved, then you're an idiot. The boosters weren't the ones in the living rooms and on the phone with players all over the country. Sabin was. Sabin is the one that had to make promises to get them to Alabama. Meaning he's the one that had to inform them of what they'd receive. Use your brain.

Saban coached in the biggest rivalry in college football each year. Surprising that he made that shot at Ohio State fans.
You have no idea what yer talking about.
You’re absolutely right
@@tokr72 and you are blind
@@tokr72 Hes exactly right. Ohio St doesnt have a natural in-state rival to take it out on like Michigan does with MSU, so OhioSt and its fans channel all of that energy into The Game.
@@jessev5761 I suggest you research the history of the rivalry. It goes back deep, back to the origins of the game. The Ohio State/Michigan game is a season unto itself.
Oregon defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi just said in a recent interview that the Ducks
are live tackling in practice in live game scenarios
it's really crazy how nobody is talking about the book the hidden path to manifesting financial power
What Gillis said was so funny because it was so obviously true.
You know he knows personally too lol
You’re exactly right… but my only rebuttal to that is you’re telling me ND doesn’t pay their players? Or am I missing something and they are the only D1 school who doesn’t pay their players? 😆
Besides the complete lack of evidence, and nearly 20 years worth of time to find any.
Taylor Lewan outed the Sec a long time ago on his pod. Played with someone at bama. Said the sec used to auction the best players from the south and that the home state school would get a chance to give best offer. How the ncaa let that happen for years scot free is beyond me.
Boy, Nick Saban has a psychotic obsession of lying about paying for players.
Where's your evidence? You don't have any. So this is an assumption, right? So you assume Alabama was doing something that nobody else was doing?
“The Iron Bowl is the biggest rivalry in CFB”
Ask any Bama fan how they feel about the 2017 Iron Bowl.
Learn the history of "The Game." Goes deeper than football.
No, actually no it doesn't, and if your part of the problem....maybe take a cold shower and a long look in the mirror, get your life in order and stop worrying about a game you were never capable of being a part of.
@@tekepenguin1981 Actually it does, I'm not a OSU fan and I even know that.
@tekepenguin1981 I’m a sensible OSU fan on the side of needing to move on after that loss, but the rivalry truly is deeper than the game. It is rooted in a border war (The Toledo War) dating back to 1835.
It did when a Rose Bowl berth was on the line, there's a 12 team playoff now, adjust to the times.
its not, im a ohio state fan we won 20 years, they had the last 4, it happens
When the greatest coach of all time, who coached many games in the historic rivalry of the Iron bowl, is criticizing other rivals for having a psychotic obsession with each other, that proves the game is greatest rivalry
Yeah, well, Nick Saban puts tomatoes in his gumbo so who cares?
What’s gumbo ?
Wow you sure showed him 😂
@@jamescooper3324 I will feel this way till I die.
@Kayluv101 What’s Google?
We don’t have anything else in Ohio except for OSU
I don't ever wanna hear someone say the Iron Bowl is a bigger rivalry anymore
Saban needs to relax. With allllll the staff he has, Nobody could tell him Shane was obviously a comedian
Buckeye fan here and it’s rich for Saben to say what he did. If Bama lost to Auburn four years in a row, Saben (anyone) would be fired and the state of Alabama would have imposed the health penalty (if they could 😂).
This is why its the best rivalry and way better than the Iron bowl lol
You don’t have to pay $1000 you can watch on tv for free, better view too than those $1000 seats.
The irony of Saban saying this after his retirement ESPN signing bonus gifted playoff team got whooped last year...
I don't think people get it. It's the biggest rivalry in college football. It's an obsession.
Cmon Saban loosen up dude Shane is hilarious
lifelong Buckeye fan and *HATE* losing to Michigan but Nick Saban is absolutely on point! One game dosn't make you're season period. TIME TO PUT LESS EMPHASIS ON THE LAST GAME IN NOVEMBER AGAINST TTUN! AND WORRY ABOUT WINNING IT ALL!
Hahaha....you say "there.needs to be less emphasis".......and yet you use "TTUN" do describe THE MICHIGAN WOLVERINES. Might wanna take your own advice.
@@JJC266_88 it's no longer the pathway to the ROSEBOWL who cares!!! OR THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP! WHO CARES ABOUT TTUN! ive watched that game for 60years LOL
Lmao this is the only time where I’ve seen OSU & Michigan fans almost joining forces with each other to defend the importance of THE GAME to an outsider who doesn’t appreciate the importance of it…ps I know Saban coached at OSU but not for a long time so he’s an outsider and an advocate for sec
I hate Ohio State with all my heart but the only people that truly understand are other Wolverines and Buckeyes. Only a crazy fucker can understand another crazy fucker.
Nick saban is actually a cool dude..
He is so serious that its funny
If Saban had ever lost to Auburn 4 years in a row he would understand how Buckeyes feel. We don’t just want our team to beat UM, we expect it!
Ohio state v Michigan is more than a football rivalry. It’s a territory dispute. Always has been.
Doubling down is awesome
Nick Saban coached at Ohio State so he knows all about this rivalry. E$ecPIN pays Saban a lot of money to talk. What he thinks and says has no bearing on Ohio State or its fans.
Saban never coached at Ohio State. He coached Michigan State.
@tokr72 Before you call someone a liar you should at least use Google to check your facts. Saban was on the Defensive Staff at Ohio State for 2 seasons. He replaced Pete Carroll who got a job at NCST.
@@CurtisScruggs I never called you a liar, that's a lie and you're lying, liar.
I’m one of the biggest Ohio State fans out there and I could really care less about Michigan they’re in the rearview mirror. I’ve got bigger and better goals. I don’t see why people make a big deal about regular season games and rivalry week.
All these ESECPN clowns just can’t help themselves with their envy.
He’s just another ESPN shill now.
Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
UT due to strength of schedule should've had homefield advantage over OSU.
You just invalidated the "strength of schedule" nonsense.
Saban never coached at OSU
@@tokr72 You're Not Intelligent at all. All of the information in the world at your fingertips and you couldn't look it before responding to me. If you're a Nick Saban fan you would know that.
He coached at Michigan State
If you ask any Ohio State Buckeye before The Game, if given the choice between beating Michigan or winning the Natty, which would they choose? They will tell you, Beat Michigan!
This is the truth.
Saban needs to do some research on this particular rivalry before commenting on it further.
he likes ohio state he coached there.. said it a bunch of times.
And they say it means more down south LOL
This is the biggest rivalry in cfb by far. You CANT lose to michigan 4 straight years. Saban cant fathom it because the iron bowl is a Mickey mouse rivalry
Pretty sure the iron bowl cured my insomnia.
Led off asking him about the Dawg!
🐕🦺
Maybe Alabama should have been a bit more "obsessed" with Michigan in their bowl preparation.
If 4 teams were picked, OSU would have been left out. SEC bias would have had two SEC teams in.
Oh c'mon. Don't tell me players weren't paid for years. Why do you think there's more parody now? It's not just the transfer portal.
parity 😉
Are you kidding? They can transfer at will and play right away. Also this is just one year, there’s plenty of years like this in the past. Maybe there’s more parity but we certainly don’t know that now. 2007 would have had you fooled.
@@Orpheus418 He was right the first time. 😆
Shane’s living rent free in Alabama Jones’ head.
Everyone acts like we didnt have blowouts before the playoff. Its not the size of the tournament thats the issue. Its the bias in ranking them. Read that back again and absorb it.
Having a CFP where in the semis you have an 11 point dog and 13 point dog is BS. These ARE NOT the 12 best teams.
I think Michigan has sparty to balance them out, it helps them vs OSU lately. OSU has no one else but Michigan and yea id say it's unhealthy. Ive been at Michigan Ohio state games, where all I saw was unhealthy behavior from Ohio state fans. Saban is right
Truth and it used to be Notre Dame every year too
@Jleed989 exactly there are other factors. I think some of the Ohio state fans literally base their self worth and existence over this game. Michigan is such a prestigious school that even the players have different things they can focus on outside of football. For Ohio raised fans they've got 0 it's their whole identity
They don't want to get it. They may as well run for office.
Sean 100% goofin around talkin a little ish...and Alabama Jones got all up in his feelers...lighten up.
But who’s counting?
Respect saban
Nah he ran from the competition
Can someone please explain why I, an Ohio State fan, or any UM fan should care what Nick Saban thinks?
Nil started in Alabama
Naw they did it the right way..We woulda had SMU vs indiana and the winner woulda played boise state it would’ve just given the bad teams a better chance at making the championship game…They did the right way now there’s only really good teams and good games left..All the bad teams are out..
Yeah your right
Nick Saban is Following the ESPN Script.
Nick needs to go coach the cowboys
The REAL NORTH remembers...
These same old heads will cry about how there are no real rivalries anymore and attack fans for lacking sufficient enthusiasm for home field advantage, so which is it?
Are we watching Coach Saban or Coach Belichick???
I believe Alabama got punished for not beating Michigan last year
@@andrewharper9848 no you lost to Vanderbilt Tennessee and Oklahoma
@@andrewharper9848 you didn't even win your division almost blew your win with Georgia your team is not that great
Michigan versus Ohio State is the national championship! Michigan and Ohio State if they wanted to can be the best teams every year, especially with the new NIL! So even though Michigan not in the playoffs, if Ohio State wins the national championship, Michigan is still the best team
If Ohio State wins the championship it will forever invalidate that Michigan game
Nah. This class of Ohio State seniors never beat Michigan. If that doesn't haunt them, then Ryan Day is not the right coach for Ohio State.
Right coach! Don’t eat the Rat poison if you’re a fan😂
Saban is upset with Gillis' joke because the joke was true. Alabama was paying players against the rules of the ncaa at the time and everyone knows it. You don't get that defensive if you are clean and clear.
Booster, boosters, boosters.
Use your brain.
new hat? gotta be a Stetson.
Like there would be no Hatfields if there were no McCoys, there would be no Ohio State without TTUN, and vice versa. People who were not born to the rivalry will never understand.
You can let TTUN go now. Woody has left the building
What is ESPNs obsession with OSU fans in recent weeks? The grand standing is becoming a bit odd. Do they realize the sport they cover.....like CFB is crazy insanity and tradition and it's why we all love it. No die hard fan base is well adjusted or reasonable in CFB lol
