Also they really like to flank you during combat the enemies immediately flank you from both side even though they have bad accuracy (but not that bad) it's still quite hard and challenging
The only 2 gripes I had with this game were the checkpoints where you could clear one out and 30 seconds later it would be full again and enemies would constantly chase you down and try to destroy your vehicle while you are trying to explore the world. Secondly they overdid it with the malaria outbreaks. Aside from that, this game truely made you feel like you were in over your head and barely surviving in a hostile environment, being a pawn for both sides of a conflict that has no importance to you

Playing Farcry 2 in 2024 after attempting to play it multiple times and was incapable of getting into it in the past... Just watched my first and favourite buddy, Paul, die in my arms after 3 syrettes couldn't revive him... He was the only buddy I respected in my first 8 hours of gameplay but spent around 10 in game days with him. After he died, I took his desert eagle to go assassinate a Cuban Warlord... 10/10, crushing masterpiece.
It also gave you a reason to want to buy the brand new weapons in the shop. I loved having a fresh new weapon I just paid 20 diamonds for than using a shitty rusty gun that's going to jam
My FAVORITE far cry. I want a remaster so bad with just a few tweaks(malaria, checkpoints, weapon jamming) but keeping the core game almost entirely the same. Also Far Cry 3 had that endgame problem with an empty world until they added the "respawn" outposts option, there's no NG+. Same with Far Cry 4.
There are mods that pretty much are a remaster. The Realism+Redux mod cranks up the graphics quality, fixes bugs, and rebalances the game, all while maintaining the original feel. This is just one of the mods available on NexusMods (PC only of course).
I'm glad you made this video. For those of us that played it when it first came out, there was little like it. I'd say it, and the original Deus Ex, were what helped eventually define what open world games are today.
I was obsessed with this game for a solid year, it felt like a whole new concept being able to set fields on fire and trapping enemies with bomb traps. It was amazing for its time.
It's my favorite Far Cry game. The weapon selection was awesome and I liked finding the random stuff in the wild and I enjoyed the diamond and upgrade system. The buddy system was decent also.
I remember I played this all day on thanksgiving when it first came out stalking through the jungles and stealthing every encounter, setting up sniper spots and just really enjoying the freedom of approach in this game.
One of the few games I finished. Such a beautiful looking realistic game. My favourite FC. I regularly cleaned and swapped my weapons to prevent jamming
I know this would not be the key part of the game, but a great part of a remake would be the wildlife. Because wildlife has always been a fun part of far cry, and the African savanna has the best. Best of all in my taste. And best of all if you look at the physics engine. Better done in FC2 than in the rest of the series: - Fire en grenades are more satisfying. - No stupid mission zones. - No talking (I hated myself in FC3, annoying American student). - No wall hacks or tagging. - Rockets do fall back if you shoot them straight up. - You can interact a lot with bushes and trees. - You can shoot through thin walls. - Buddy system. - Weapons degrade. - Enemies follow you over long distances. - The weather. - Night day cycle. - Peaceful wildlife (How many Eagle attacks did you get in FC4?) I had no problem with the malaria, checkpoints, weapon degrading, lack of colors or any thing else. (You can sneak behind most checkpoints if needed.) The color grading makes the game look more realistic, like a filter hiding some bad textures. I still haven't found a game more immersive that FC2. Tip: playing like X-box; only save when you're in a savehouse.
It (Farcry 2) might be a good candidate for a remake and enhancement (if Ubisoft would ever consider such a thing) - just as Dead Space 1 is currently being remade and enhanced - and likely to be commercially successful, e.g. I plan to buy the Dead Space 1 remake (along with the DNA successor: The Callisto Protocol)
I loved the adaptive A.I. If you used one tactic, like sniping NPC's they would start to hide. Head on assaults would work for a couple of times, then that would adapt to throwing all NPC's at you at once. Any new tactic used would have to be constantly altered to be successful.
