What got me was the AK explosion when i picked up a dead guys AK and i tried to shoot the gunner on one of the gun trucks not paying attention to the weapons condition meter and it blew up in my face and scared the absolute shit outta me

This is a very cool mechanic, it's a shame tthat they didn't add it for future games, weapons slowly rusting, jamming and breaking over time really adds atmosphere and hardcore to the game, far cry 2 is the most underrated part of the series,it created the far cry that we know and love today

I still remember my first ever failure experience in this game, not a break, just a "jam" if you will. Using the Carl Gustav against a guy in a tower. The rocket just plopped out and spin around on the floor in front of me before blowing and then setting everything around me on fire. This game was really something special
I had a similar experience in the game. I was in a grassy field and got ambushed. I was taking cover behind my vehicle and trying to pick them off with my rifle. The rifle exploded in my hand and set all the grass around me and the car on fire. I had to book it and find more cover. “Yeah my friend builds guns in his garage and has had zero issues so far”
*The gun as soon he takes it to the range*
Fun to note: The AK-47 in this game, even though it's bolt has been mirrored, is actually based on a proper AK-47, which is of note because most games use the more common AKM as the model for their AK-47. While mechanically they are the same rifle, the AK-47 has a milled receiver as compared to the stamped receiver of the AKM.
What's the difference you didn't ask? I'll explain!
Originally, the AK-47 was meant to have a stamped receiver but due to design constraints, it had to use a milled receiver at it's debut. Milling is the process of removing material from a block of metal or other such material who's starting dimensions meet the minimum of the finished product once you have carved it to form.
In modern times, milling machines are automated, you only need to give it a file and it will cut the block of metal into whatever shape you want. But in the Soviet Union, I'm sure the process was nearly (if not totally) manual. And even if it wasn't, the process more than likely still required some human intervention as well as baby sitting.
In short, milling is very wasteful, since you need to cut everything off you don't need which ends up with a lot of lost material at the end, which in the Soviet Union, was a problem considering their political stature at the time.
Stamping however is better in just about every regard; you only need a thin sheet of metal, a die in the shape of the final product and a way to heat the metal. Losses when manufacturing this way are nearly zero, requires less skill to preform, increases manufacturing yield while decreasing time spent on manufacturing, on and on. The only concern is strength. It's a sheet of metal formed into a shape that's maybe 2-3 millimeters think as compared to the 5-10 of milling, but with a good design like the AK's, such concerns can be mitigated.
People have argued for literal years about which AK receiver type is better, milled or stamped. Some say 'oh, stamped receivers crack where the front trunnion is pinned' or 'oh, milled receivers crack on the side of the mag well.' But from my understanding these problems only occur in rifles that have seen 125'000+ rounds. So (in fairness if my numbers are right) it's not that big of a deal.
I mean, seriously, old Soviet Block AKs where floating around Pakistan and Iraq with little more than a damp shoe string run through their barrel to clean them. I'm dead serious.
This concludes you firearms history lesson of the day. Please don't forget to leave your exams on my desk on your way out.

I love how when he throws the gun away it just kinda glued itself on the side of your head like in case you need it

Man, these animations looks funny even now. I remember i was laughing very hard when i first time played this game back in the days, and some of the weapons exploded like that. Especially the bazooka, when he tries to reload it but it breaks in half. I died laughing when i saw that :D
I hope FC6 takes most of it's inspiration from 2. Even little things like this and the mapping system were soooo much better and more immersive. Not to mention the healing animations.
Also, the RPG was a great weapon in this game. I love that you can use it for indirect fire by making the rocket ricochet off something at close range or running out of fuel. And the low condition RPGs would sometimes just pathetically spit the rocket out for it to spin around on the floor lmao

I love how the mortar just decides to self-destruct on itself as soon as you're about to get ready to fire the next shot
Some people complained about the 'weapons-degradation', but I really, really enjoyed it. It very much influenced gameplay, and being crouched behind a car and punching your jammed gun while the enemy continues to shoot is *stressful* ... and that was *enjoyable.*
Plus, disregarding the degree of degradation, poorly maintained weapons do actually malfunction... I don't see any issue with including that in a game.
I remember during my playtime of this game, I was sneaking up on two guys. I prepared my AK, and tried shooting one of them. With my luck, it jammed at the first shot and I was swiftly killed. It was one of the most immersive moments in all of my gaming experience.
Yoooo Kentucky Balistics RN-50 was cosplaying Far Cry 2?
😁
Funny gun guy almost died but ok
It's an awesome feature, and I really loved playing this game when I was younger. But now that I'm older and my occupation is Gunsmith, a lot of these animations bother me (yes I know, just a video game it's not going to be perfect) but because of the slides blowing off backwards, like on the Makarov, which if you've ever disassembled one, you'd know is extremely unlikely because the slide can only be removed from the front, which is the case for most semi automatic pistols for obvious reasons, like a catastrophic failure and the slide blowing off its rails and smacking you square in the face. Again, nothing is guaranteed, and you could still have this happen. But the design is such that the likelyhood is very uncommon and that's why most are designed to be disassembled with the slide coming off in forward direction, or a slight few being straight up, like the Ruger 57s disassembly.

I love how the rpg breaks. Like he takes off the back, it breaks off AND IT CUTS SO FAST
(In the intro)
I think you have most avesome and best outro dude.
I’d love to see this implemented in a multiplayer setting. Like if you stay alive along enough using the same weapon, there’s a chance it’ll jam and just explode, so you have to utilize the mechanics of picking up dead player weapons.
I miss far cry 2 weapons jamming n breaks it also the missions where dope.
The attention to detail in these games is unbelievable
came from weapons jamming this is so fun to see never thought i be so happy t see a weapon explode
This game holds a special place in my heart because of this nothing is more stress inducing then fighting wild animals and militia when your golden AK explodes in your hand and the only reason you died was because you forgot to take you got damn miliaria pill
And I thought I enjoyed pain.
For an older game they did extremely well on accuracy for what weapons look like internally with their components exposed after an explosion malfunction!
They made it look good in the moment with what they had, mostly it's just any parts with movement already, and maybe some extras for the common weapons NPCs use. Sparks and smoke and the fact your character throws them away so fast keep you from really processing how much is missing or jank, plus this usually happens when you actually have something worth shooting at, and those somethings tend to shoot back.
The first time this happened to me with the makarov pistol scared the crap out of me
Yoo this is sick
Fun fact: the AK-47 looks to be more like the AKM, which is basically the same but the receiver has that sorta ribbed design
Some of these are so inaccurate, but the concept should be used more in games.
I absolutely played the hell out this game back in the day. I went through two ps3s and two 360s and had this game for both versions iirc.
This and far cry 3 were the best in the series. This game had the most realistic and satisfying vehicle driving I’ve ever seen. Take a Jeep for a drive during a rainy night? Feel and see the tires spinning in the mud. But it feels goooooooood.
Seeing the bolt on the sniper getting sent straight back is giving me flashbacks to Kentucky ballistics
I wish more games had this jamming and breaking mechanic
I like how half the time one of the parts that flies off hangs around at the edge of your screen, just in case you're lonely.
For those that state this mechanic was never used: New Dawn had a similar take where guns required longer reloads and gun jams on lower levels and only on high leveled guns and weapons functioned properly
I’m enjoy weapon conditioner jam/broken gun was unique in FC2. But they’d didn’t bring it back for decade now.
Because it pissed off the casual players
Imagine your gun jam in a middle of tough fight and you die only because your damn gun jammed.

I've finished this game 4 times. Never had a weapon break on me. Had jammed several times.
Is this possible only on Hard and Very Hard difficulty levels? I've always played on normal difficulty.
It's the same. Having modded the game on PC and looking through the .xml files, what determinate the durability is the amount of mags a weapon can fire. There are some entries that controls the amount of durability lost per mag.
Usually, weapons in FC2 can fire around 20-30 mags before they break. The golden AK can shoot 50 mags before it breaks down.
If you replace your guns every time you pass/visit a gun store, you won't have a problem. Most people don't, and/or don't buy the durability increase either.
Even on easy, if you neglect to do that and use enemy weapons it will happen much more frequently.
This is really satisfying idk why
Explosions and guns are cool
So exploding guns is twice as cool.
I loved / love this game so much
For the sidearms and some rifles: um hey this thing exploded can ya hold it? Air: sure thing! 0:31
Ak: it breaks
Golden AK: it breaks *in style*
ive played a little bit of far cry 2, not that much of it since ive been busy with other games, one thing i always remembered was the guns being jammed, annoying but for a game in its time it seemed impressive that mechanic was there, comparing it to other shooters at the time and in a way even now, the mechanic of the weapon breaking apart i didnt know about lol , but its impressive that it was a thing in the game
And this why, when it jams, you make sure to clear firing mechanism of your gun. Or just in general, make sure that thing’s clear.
Some people want this feature back. I think it should, but with some weapons that can't realistically explode not, ya know, exploding.
5:00 .... That mortar... No one in their right fucking mind would be near it after that...
You can tell how old the game is when the guns and their parts are floating on the side of the screen, back when they didn't account for widescreen at the time.
And shoutout to the classic "rule of cool" with the left-handed guns. Kinda gives me Nightfire flashbacks.
They need to add this back. So badass!

Darn at least you got 1 more rocket out before it decided to end its life
Imagine if you got a break and a "jam" at the same time and the rocket squirrelly hit a hill as the handle snapped off, not too different to the other breaks but would still suck.
