    Steven Hayes is a professor, the chair of the Department of Psychology at the University of Nevada, and the author of more than 35 books and 500 scientific articles. The cofounder of the acclaimed Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (known as ACT), Steven is a contributor to the Sounds True book The Self Acceptance Project: How to Be Kind and Compassionate Toward Yourself in Any Situation and the author of the Sounds True audio program Acceptance and Commitment Theory.
    Steven offers his perspective on spirituality and how that perspective informs the core tenets of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

    Great interview!!!! Great job Tami!!! I think it was an awesome example of journalism; it was like a great lecture. It is not easy to explain the ACT and basically Tami guided and structured the conversation with specific questions that gave a very understandable frame for the concepts provided by Dr. Hayes. I discovered and practiced ACT with help of my therapist and it really works. As a neuroscientist and a person who has anxiety disorder, I think that Dr. Hayes opened a door to help treating anxiety. I highly recommend this interview. Beste, Dr. G.

      I wish just once Dr Hayes would break down real life experience how he got over his panic issue he never does. interviewers ask him then he says he attacked it then goes off on his theoretical talk bla bla bla. just spend 10 minutes giving me a picture of how you attacked it what thoughts behaviors guve me examples of what you did.

      Like all forms of anxiety disorders, exposure is the treatment of choice. Acceptance/willingness of private events is the antidote to experiential avoidance. Acceptance of uncomfortable body sensations and non-engagement in catastrophizing thoughts is also a form of exposure.

    I thought Tami did a great job of trying to get to the essence of exactly how ACT helps people and the actual process it entails, but it felt like hard work as Steven Hayes seemed more intent on delivering a pitch.
