    Usually I don't like these kind of videos because people often drive recklessly or stuff when doing so.. but this video was very enjoyable. You have proven that people can have fun in cars while doing it safely. even slowing down for corners you probably didn't have to just to be safe... I honestly really enjoyed this drive. Great work

    Nice driving, very smooth. Your double clutch heel and toe downshifts are really good. The 987 pedal placement is sublime, however I usually only double clutch when changing down 2 gears to pass as it can be cumbersome when driving quickly.

      It started with my dad sitting me in the car (not running) and practicing double clutching when I was about 12. Now it feels weird if I don't double clutch!

      Yeah, I too prefer double clutching when I am skipping a gear. It's nice to see someone doing it with every downshift.

    You drive a lot like I do, quickly but very smooth, kind on the car. I really, really like it. Well I guess I don't do the double-clutching, and you are probably a fair bit smoother at downshifting than I am. And I drive a Honda Civic 1.5 and not a Cayman, so it doesn't sound quite as nice and it doesn't rotate as well in the corners. I still love my car, though, really good for what it is.
    You should do more of these. Good stuff!

    This video is everything I love about driving a manual Porsche. Off-topic, but what video editor do you use to show a driving POV and pedal/foot cam? I've always wondered that...

      Thanks Andrew!
      I just used an app called overlay video and images on android.
      Took a little while to get synchronised, and it's still not quite perfect, but I thought it wasn't too bad for a quick job on the phone.

    I just have a question. Would it be any different if you don't use double clutch? i mean, because the Cayman have synchros and you are already rev matching while downshifting

    • @samdrinkstea
      @samdrinkstea  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Bosco, the double clutching technique is so that the input shaft of the gearbox is accelerated with the engine speed with the throttle blip. This means the synchro has a little less work to do when the gear is engaged.
      It isn't necessary to double clutch, but I learned it very young and it's a habit for me now.
      Cheers,
      Sam.

      @@samdrinkstea In race cars and motorcycles they often use clutch only for starting, rest they float the gear without use of clutch when shifting. It is fun when you do it perfectly but as I understand it they do it on un--synchroniced gear box only. I do it all the time myself on my road legal dirtbike.

    What exhaust is on this car?

    • @samdrinkstea
      @samdrinkstea  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Hans,
      Exhaust is an ebay equal length 3-1 header, two inch pipe with two straight through drilled core mufflers on each side. One small and one larger. Keeping both banks of cylinders independent, so no X pipe of balance pipe at all.

    • @samdrinkstea
      @samdrinkstea  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cookefamily3255 No cats - check legality on that where you are.
      Likely an improvement in power, but only small. I would guess 5-10hp.
      Just searching 987 exhaust or muffler on ebay and looking through what is out there.
      My setup was modified though. If you can't do that yourself, in many places there are friendly muffler shops who will custom make anything you like, but of course this can be costly as there is lots of time involved.
      Personally I would recommend no balance or X pipe and a couple of nice drilled core straight through mufflers on each side.
      Good luck!
