@@TheCardboardHerald Herald do you need a core set box and Crimson's box both to play? What did you think of the difficulty? We played thru the Runelords adventure path and I found it mostly too easy because of all the blessings.
Just picked up both of these on sale. Really looking forward to playing through them. The app is wonderful for learning the basics. Thanks for the video, great job!
I liked that review. PACG is a weird game. Simple gameplay, yet some rules are not that easy to learn. It all comes down to checks, rolled with dice. That could sound boring but somehow, it's not, at least for me. The character progression is slow, but I find that grind enjoyable. You start with a 15 card deck, after defeating a scenario you'll likely get to replace 1-3 of those cards. So for the next scenario, you'll be a bit stronger but it will also feel like you're playing the same character, in a good way. After say 8 scenarios, odds are that all of your 15 starting cards have slowly been replaced. But it will still feel as the same character you had 8 scenarios ago, only stronger! I enjoy the lottery aspect of the game. You never know when the awesome weapon upgrade you are looking for will happen. Will the next item you find be useless or become the best card of your deck? That lottery also applies to the dangers you'll encounter, so you can never feel totally safe. Great, that last monster you faced was so easy to beat, it made you laugh. But then you encounter a crazy barrier, forcing every character to face a monster. It turns out that the randomly selected monster is very strong, while some characters are ill prepared for that random encounter. You'll never know what's next, it keeps things fresh and interesting. If you ONLY enjoy games where you have to spend at least 10 minutes to find a decent strategy every turn, PACG is not for you. The most long term decisions are probably those you'll make between scenarios : what bonus feat do you check, what cards will you keep to start the next scenario? During a scenario, most decisions come down to : what can I do to optimize the chances we beat this scenario while also getting good loot? Do I want to burn resources (often cards) to acquire a sword, or save them for the next monster? When facing that monster, do I burn lots of resources to guarantee I defeat it or try to save resources and accept the risks of a bad dice roll? I play with 2 friends, we're 3-4 scenarios from finishing Curse of the Crimson Throne, let's hope our characters survive! It has been a lot of fun to this point. It's satisfying to watch characters evolve.
This is a great review, thanks! I have never played the new Core Set or Crimson Throne, but I've spent a lot of time with a few of the earlier campaigns and I really enjoy it. The Mummy's Mask campaign is currently sitting at the top of my favorite games to play solo. With 2020 being the way it has been, with the constant low-level stress pervading life, I've found more drawn to the familiar and the classic. For me, this has drastically reduced my urge to acquire more games. I purchased the Mummy's Mask complete campaign a few months ago, but again since I'd sunk a lot of time into Rise of the Runelords and Skull & Shackles PFACG campaigns in the past, it felt more like an improved version of what I already knew, instead of picking up and learning a completely new system. For that reason, I'm hoping and expecting to pick up the new PCACG Core Box and any adventure packs that have stories that sound enjoyable, but since I've just recently started playing through Mummy's Mask, that might not be for another 8-12 months away... and that's ok with me.
How has you opinion evolved since the review? Its going out of stock now so my FOMO tells me to buy it (since I love the theme, card combos and progression) and I cant really see any other game quite like it. Or what would you choose over it if so? And thank you for a great video :)
Is it a correct assumption that these two sets are fully compatible with the "old" Rise of the Runelords (RotR) and similar Pathfinder Adventure Card Game (ACG) boxes? Are these core sets "just like" those previous ACG games, except no card divider insert provided in the box like with RotR?
Write Heroics yes, they are fully compatible. There is a section in the rule book about integrating old cards. Also here is a BGG forum thread on comparability: boardgamegeek.com/thread/2222760/old-sets-and-compatability-new-core As for the base sets. Yes? It doesn’t have the old swanky insert, but I think it has more content than the old RotR base set. The expansion certainly has more than those old Adventure packs.
Best review of this game on TH-cam! Thank you sir.
TheRmm1976 that’s very kind of you, thanks for watching!

I love the mtg elvish archer painting in the background !
Thanks! Anson Maddocks is one of my all-time favorite MTG artists and he grew up in my area of Alaska to boot!

Have you tried the phone app? It's like almost perfect mobile game haha, if only it was portrait
How does stack up to the original.
I think if it's a choice between this core set or the original, I'd go for this 100%.
