First time in my life saw my mother's Tanpura in childhood. It was so beautiful and sounded so melodious. Bless these artists for keeping the art alive.

Amazing. Thank you for making this documentary. Videography, narration, clarity of sound, non exhaustive, were a treat

This is one good and enchanting video!
The makers strive for perfection and the preparation of the gourd involves quite a lot of knowledge and doing!
The electronic tanpura is a convenience and cannot displace the traditional one.
In fact it could make one yearn to possess the real thing!
These craftsmen should be encouraged to use some modern machines which could save the building time!
    And considerably reduce the cost!
If only some dedicated volunteer could come forward and dispell the aversion for the use of machines.
The only grouse the workmen could have, is that the rate of cutting/shaping and removal of stock, if too fast; could cause deformations later.
This is no big challenge to solve as lower speeds could be used and the parts allowed to rest inbetween sessions!
Besides the nice tone and accuracy, these instruments are a so beautifully crafted, and can be a joy to possess!
    Thanks for the video!

Beautiful! but the sad part is that artisans who live and breath their craft are given peanuts in return for preserving such a rich cultural legacy and keeping the culture alive for the future! When all is said and done, it is only the beauty and perfection of human handwork, the care, precision and devotion that goes into it, is left behind. wish we would value their hardwork and give them so much more in return!

    Om Ah Houm
To be able to continue doing what you are passionate about... what a silly reality, to continue to follow a broken system, that prevents you from even owning anything else... to live in suffering... what a blessing that is (slight chuckle)... to see how others continue to suffer, and in turn bring more suffering to others... how simple it would be, to being able-to bring oneself, more Blissful moments, by doing what is meaningful for oneself...
    Bah!

I am also trying to get a tanpura but I already got a harmonium which my father bought for me and it cost 14,000 but my mod was not angry cause she thought it's the only instrument I would get 😅 but when can we do. I told there is a instrument named "tanpura" she said "ok, so what" I said "It is also essential for me so I need it" she was like "what the hell! No, you already got a harmonium" and you already know the price
I was very sad and I told my father and he said "ok we'll see after it" then I felt nice and then I told my mother and she was like "I will stay with you anymore If you bring that thing"
    What can I do?
    😢

One can make an electronic tanpura but making an electronic sitar is an impossible task. These people will survive till sitar is being played. They can survive by making Sitars

Maybe if I could afford to buy any Indian music instrument, I will invest 1st for a tampura made from Miraj. 🙏🏻 Then the sitar, and other veenas next. 🪷
